Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate…

14/12/2012

“The voice of conscience is so delicate that it is easy to stifle it; but it is also so clear that it is impossible to mistake it.” Madame de Stael

Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate

Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate

When I think of the word – delicate, what comes to mind are images of beautiful flower petals, a new birth, or of tender new life forming. Life is delicate… Each of us starts life in this vulnerable manner and then gradually; slowly but surely, we grow in strength until we reach full bloom as adults. Sadly, 20 beautiful children in Newtown, CT, will not and my heartfelt condolences go out to their families… and to all who ever lost a loved one through acts of violence.

“True strength is delicate.” Louise Berliawsky Nevelson

AS we go about our duties, performing actions that impact our lives and the lives of others, we must remember the delicate balance that keeps it all together. It is so easy to imagine that we have time, space, and strength to complete XYZ when, in fact, we are all living on borrowed, albeit grace-filled, time. There were adult lives lost in that tragedy and my heart hurts for everyone of them too. Hug your loved ones; offer a kind word or smile, smell the fragrant flowers, admire the beauty of nature and life around you… We have inner strength yet, we are all delicately made. How is your heart? More below!

“The questions worth asking, in other words, come not from other people but from nature, and are for the most part delicate things easily drowned out by the noise of everyday life.” Robert B. Laughlin

I glimpse the butterfly in the picture above, and again, I am reminded of a beautiful, fleeting moment captured and shared. There is a rhythm and balance to nature and it is in constant evolution; shifting, growing, changing, unfolding… and so are we. We need to be more compassionate with ourselves and others. Another way I view the word delicate is through the lens of compassion… Treat each moment of life and each exchange with love and a delicate hand.

What are your thoughts? What photos did you share on Delicate to fit the challenge? Was it easy/hard to find photos that supported your perspective on the subject? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

*Please bear with me as I continue to catch up on reading and commenting on your blogs… I’m halfway there. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate. Delicate could be the tracings of frost on a window, a child’s tiny fingers and toes, the intricate pattern of a tree’s canopy, or something yet-to-be-discovered. So much of this challenge depends on your interpretation of “delicate,” and we look forward to seeing the range of images you capture. IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE THAT MEANS DELICATE TO YOU!

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. I will list some when Zemanta offers them up! I added a few from WP Daily Post below. (I will update it and add more). We all appreciate trackbacks/ping-backs and Likes from fellow bloggers too! Check out how others interpreted the theme – Delicate – also below. ***

Positive Motivation Tip: Another way to think of the word delicate is to think of compassion… Treat each moment of life and each exchange with love and a delicate hand.

As always Eliz your post is inspiring. i love your images and this quote: “The voice of conscience is so delicate that it is easy to stifle it; but it is also so clear that it is impossible to mistake it.”
So true, so very true. So often I struggle with what to post for these challenges, sometimes so much I don’t take part – but this time I knew straight away.

    • 15/12/2012 8:08 pm

TY Jo and I’ll stop by to enjoy your post soon. The topic is ideal given the events of the last 24 hours… we all need to be a tad delicate, caring, towards each other.

  14. 15/12/2012 2:15 pm

Ah, a delicate balance. That’s the key to life. The bees on the flower remind to take a step back and enjoy life.
    Matilda loves the butterfly! 😀

    • 15/12/2012 8:10 pm

TY Tracy! Glad to see you here and to hear that Matilda would approve… There is a harshness out there in our world and we could all stand to be a tad more compassionate with others and ourselves.

  15. 15/12/2012 3:52 pm

    Lovely, delicate images. Wonderful words.

    • 15/12/2012 8:10 pm

Beautiful words and images, Elizabeth 🙂

    • 15/12/2012 8:12 pm

TY Dianne! I was trying to make sense of the tragedy and the word delicate resonated well… compassion, helping each other… all key.

  17. 15/12/2012 8:40 pm

This theme brings forth many thoughts. One for me is that life is subjectively delicate. It’s so fragile. How do we manage it? I work everyday to be open minded, compassionate, and hopeful, but the loss in the tragedy in CT makes me wonder if we can get a hold of the state of being called balance. Thank you for this post.

    • 15/12/2012 9:13 pm

I wonder too… There are many hurting souls in our world today and not enough being done to help them. Add to that the financial/economic struggles, the misinformation and hate-mongering, and we have time bombs ticking… We need prayer, compassion, mindful action and above all God’s grace… Be well and TY for your feedback.

  18. 16/12/2012 12:19 am

Thoughts and Images . Well put Elizabeth.
I liked your Positive Motivation Tip. Its easy to get wrapped in oneself and what we have to do etc this time of year, one needs to reflect what others are having to deal with and reach out to them more .

    • 16/12/2012 9:30 am

True… There is a lot of pain and suffering out there… WE all know it and avoiding the subject doesn’t make the facts go away… TY!

  19. 16/12/2012 12:20 am

    Thanks for the pingback! 🙂

  20. 16/12/2012 1:26 am

    • 16/12/2012 9:32 am

Truly tragic… such a dreadful act of hate and violence…

  22. 16/12/2012 3:26 am

It;s very moving, Elizabeth. I really can’t come up with anything to say about the 20 angels, but weeping…

    • 18/12/2012 3:20 pm

      Same here… I’ve cried plenty and it comes in waves. As a mom, it saddens me because I remember spending time at preschool and elementary school with my kids and how trusting, eager to learn, and innocent the kids were.. The vision is wrenching. TY! {{{HUGS}}}
