The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life’s plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life. Robert Louis Stevenson

Special Photo Challenge: Inspiration – My 4 Year Anniversary on WordPress

What inspires me to blog? This is my 4th Anniversary as a WordPress blogger and I’ve crossed a lot of bridges since that first day when I had the temerity to add my voice to the global conversation. I haven’t looked back even though I’ve had my share of major setbacks. What I’ve come to learn is that writing gives me hope, inspiration and joy, and infuses my spirit with a sense of gratitude and awe. So what exactly inspires me? Lots of things inspire me to blog. Top of my list is probably my love for meeting people, nature, travel, family, advocacy/volunteer work, learning, adventure, exercise, good food and much more.

With gratitude, all life appears as a blessing – without gratitude, all of life is perceived as a burden. Jonathan Lockwood Huie

I put together a wide range of pictures that show some of the things I do… I wanted a shot of me taking a shot of something but didn’t quite capture any that fit the bill… So I kept going through the piles… ADHD me! It’s all good. 😆 I hope these help and that they give you a glimpse into my world.

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. Rabindranath Tagore

I could probably write a book on each of the shots I included in this post as they tell a wide range of stories. They were taken all over the USA and in other countries; hence my international nomad title… But I’m coming close to feeling at home here. Home is where the heart finds rest. What inspires you? More below! Thank you for stopping by!

Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point. Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing moment; and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey. Harold V. Melchert

I feel out of my bog reading for several months, only reading 5-10 posts any given week, so I’ve missed out on a lot of what’s transpired in your world. It’s so awesome to come back to this particular post, and to see so much of you illuminated in a way that accentuates your words and shows the native truth of their warmth! Awesome through and through.

  36. 03/12/2012 6:54 pm

Wow Eliz!!!! Four years! Congratulations!!!! I am approaching my second year and I could not agree with your words more clearly. Blogging has been a wonderful wonderful experience which has helped me become a better person too. I love your montage of photos and I can now see your lovely twins! I love how you all wear glasses! I also love the photo of you in the business suit( not sure where you are), the one in the bakery and the one in the orange pants. It is fun to see you now on your blog! I have been so utterly inspired by your beautiful poetic words. My only regret is I didn’t start reading blogs sooner as I have missed out on two years of your work! 🙂 keep shining!

    • 04/12/2012 10:25 am

Kudos to you for growing your blog so well. It has been quite the journey and I don’t regret any of it… Don’t worry about when you started reading blogs… It’s a lifelong venture. Also, it is a huge responsibility and time consuming task. Once you’re in, it’s hard to get out… 😆

      • 05/12/2012 1:59 pm

Yes indeed! I spend so much time on it but I find it so incredibly rewarding! It sure beats TV! 🙂 I’d rather be reading blogs than watching tv unless it is a documentary or film! 🙂

  37. 04/12/2012 5:05 am

I say – quite a milestone ! May there be many more.
Always so very interesting and thought provoking your blog Elizabeth !

So much fun to have a behind-the-scenes look at your life. I love when bloggers do this, although it always makes me want to invite them for coffee and ask all about their lives. My husband and I hang pictures everywhere in our house. I love to look at them and remember all of the great adventures we’ve had together. x
