Inspiration: The Power Of WE…

Since 2007, Blog Action Day has offered bloggers from different countries, with different interests and languages, a forum to blog about one important global topic on the same day. This year, the topic revolves around the Power of We. When I think about the subject, what comes to mind is community service and using our voices, individually and collectively, to create opportunities for positive change. How can we help? For starters, volunteer, support a charity or more, blog about issues that affect your community, your country, the world… WE can speak out.

Oxfam: A beginner’s guide to land grabs

When I look around the blogging community, I see the love, care and support bloggers offer each other. We read, like, comment and re-blog posts to encourage each other and keep our community vital and informed… By the same token, our skills and actions help empower and uplift others in our local communities. Because we are exposed to social issues on a daily basis, most of us have become active participants in charities and groups that need help.

Over the years, I’ve supported many charities and as I write this, a few come to mind: Kiva, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, and The YWCA. As a volunteer at the Y, I learned that when we offer our time, love and encouragement to others, we become beneficiaries of grace and goodwill. If you are thinking of ways to add more to your blog, to become a Change Maker, Blog Action Day has tons of ideas on where and how to support others… More below!

“Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.” Wilma Rudolph

Blog Action Day 2012

One way the organizers of Blog Action Day have helped to ensure participants stay engaged and focused on creating change is through its resource/partners page. We can find lots of information about the participating charities and use the data to create our own blog post. If you are looking for more proactive charitable organizations to support, You might consider the following Blog Action day partners or name some of your own:
ActionAid
Oxfam
Greenpeace
HelpAge International
Heifer International
Global Exchange

As we go about our lives, let us remember our blessings and all that enriches our lives; then wish same for others. Some people live under oppressive dictators that the idea of community effort or freedom remains a long lost dream to them. Each day is a precious gift and an opportunity to uplift others. If we cannot serve, we can donate, lend our voice, our skills/knowledge to help others… By being a blessing to others, we are doubly blessed…

Thank you for stopping by. What are your thoughts? What do you think about the power of WE? Do you have stories to share? Do share? Thank you! 🙂

*Please bear with me as I continue to catch up on reading and commenting on your blogs… I’m halfway there. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Help others. Help each other. Empower the world. Remember the Power of WE…

I just watched a documentary about the Cambodian Children’s Fund, and it’s good to see that this organisation, started by one man 9 years ago, is still going strong, educating disadvantaged children. There is much we can do individually and collectively, but I think part of the issue is that different people are passionate about different things, so the ‘we’ aspect doesn’t always get the traction we might hope for, given that there are so many worthy causes.

I’m glad the organization you mentioned is still thriving… especially in this tough global economy. The WE campaign addresses exactly what you are saying… The idea is to build our community where we are, to support the organizations we choose, and acknowledge the differences. The WE idea is also about pursuing our own objectives and reminding people to do same; we the people can make a difference notion. The charities they listed on the BADay site are their sponsors and they want us to identify our own fav charities in our blogs. I listed some of my favs and added some of theirs for emphasis. Your point is important because I hope others will recognize that Blog Action Day is not just about supporting their sponsors but also about identifying our favorite charities and giving them recognition on our blogs. TY for raising this vital point. 😉

We to me can be single or plural… We as one group with
same mind and action…or we as several people doing the same thing but, in a different way…I think “we” as individuals can make a great impression…but, without taking that first step…”we” haven’t actually joined the “we” group in attaining anything…So go forward”we”…alone or as a group…but, go!

    • 16/10/2012 12:56 pm

Oh Marilyn, your reply had me in stitches! 😆 TY for the humor and laughter. Whatever WE is, let’s do it! 😉

I forgot to join BAD 2012, the power of we. 🙁
I posted another topic. But I attended an event that related with BAD that held in my city. 🙂

    • 21/10/2012 10:43 pm

Not to worry… Next year will be another opportunity to participate again. At least you did attend an event so you did good. TY! 🙂

  14. 17/10/2012 10:02 pm

You are the only person I read who mentioned this…unfortunately I missed it this time, but I’ll make a note. One of my favorites is Heifer International. It’s a good organization for me to share with my granddaughters. Each Christmas they help me pick a couple of animals and I explain to them, age appropriately, how the animals “gives back” to the community. There are many wonderful ways to support others, and I like this blogging project very much! 🙂 Debra

    • 22/10/2012 10:55 pm

I love Heifer International too and just got their donation mailer again. I love the project too because its easy to get caught up on other topics and forget that we can use our blogs to help others. TY! 🙂

  15. 23/10/2012 10:42 pm

I am so bummed that I missed this event. What a great experience it must be to share around the world. Maybe next year…

    • 12/11/2012 2:56 pm

Sign up and that way, next year they will notify you… 🙂
