Reflections: A Moment Of Happiness…

10/10/2012

“It is Love that brings happiness to people. It is Love that gives joy to happiness.” Rumi

Reflections: A Moment Of Happiness… Whirling dervishes.

A Moment Of Happiness by Rumi
A moment of happiness,
you and I sitting on the verandah,
apparently two, but one in soul, you and I.
We feel the flowing water of life here,
you and I, with the garden’s beauty
and the birds singing.
The stars will be watching us,
and we will show them
what it is to be a thin crescent moon.
You and I unselfed, will be together,
indifferent to idle speculation, you and I.
The parrots of heaven will be cracking sugar
as we laugh together, you and I.
In one form upon this earth,
and in another form in a timeless sweet land. via allpoetry.com

We think and talk about happiness a lot and yet complain that much of it is fleeting or that the moments are like dusk and dawn; night and day, up and down… very much like life. The great mystic and Sufi poet, Rumi, calls our hearts at this hour and reminds us of the power of love and its link to happiness. All of life is about moments and we, each of us, express it in our unique way.

“Everyone is so afraid of death, but the real Sufis just laugh: nothing tyrannizes their hearts. What strikes the oyster shell does not damage the pearl.” Rumi

Reflections: A Moment Of Happiness… Happy women.

The Awakening by Rumi
In the early dawn of happiness
you gave me three kisses
so that I would wake up
to this moment of love

I tried to remember in my heart
what I’d dreamt about
during the night
before I became aware
of this moving
of life

I found my dreams
but the moon took me away
It lifted me up to the firmament
and suspended me there
I saw how my heart had fallen
on your path
singing a song Cont’d Below

We are all vessels of pulsating love waiting to be tapped and turned. It is there inside and we carry it even when we remain unaware. When we awaken to that wondrous place inside, we hold on for dear life, afraid it would die, but happiness cannot be held in a vessel or contained by our desires… it must be enjoyed at that moment. More below

The soul at dawn is like darkened water that slowly begins to say, “Thank you, Thank you.” Rumi

Reflections: A Moment Of Happiness… Boy with dog.

The Awakening by Rumi (contd from above)
Between my love and my heart
things were happening which
slowly slowly
made me recall everything

You amuse me with your touch
although I can’t see your hands.
You have kissed me with tenderness
although I haven’t seen your lips
You are hidden from me.

But it is you who keeps me alive

Perhaps the time will come
when you will tire of kisses
I shall be happy
even for insults from you
I only ask that you
keep some attention on me.

Our moment of happiness exists in every breath we take, every step, every word, every look, touch and taste… and then it flows out beyond the tangible to the intangible; the unknown. May your moments of happiness enrich your life and imprint its memory in your heart…

What Does Happiness mean to you? What are your thoughts? Do you experience snatches or longer periods of happiness? What would your happy world look like? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: A moment of Happiness is to be enjoyed spontaneously and without expectation. Be in the moment; all joy begins there. Choose happiness!

    What a lovely, lovely post.

  8. 11/10/2012 11:24 am

I recently read something that resonated and I know I won’t get the quote exactly right and I can’t remember who said it but… it juxtaposed happiness and joy, saying we can feel joy even through tears and sadness. Everyone searches for happiness and miss the bigger point, that you must first feel joy in your heart to realize happiness.

I probably screwed that up, but what do you think? I thought it had a lot of merit. Primarily because most of us are always searching for happiness like it’s tangible and might jump up in front of us, when joy comes from within and that’s where it all starts.

    Thanks for all you do.

Yes, we can experience happiness in the midst of pain and suffering. I like the way the idea was presented in what you wrote… 🙂 TY!

Contentment, as if it only happens in a split-second. Everything is like a for-the-moment pleasure. One second you’re happy, the next minute you’re looking for something else. Human desire creates that vicious cycle, if you will…. but yeah, it’s human nature that we constantly looking for happiness.

True Rommel! I read somewhere that the pursuit of happiness makes us determined to grow closer to God… 😉

TY and lucky you to have been close enough to enjoy the touch…. We all need it. 🙂

  14. 11/10/2012 8:28 pm

I like the short phrase, “Choose happiness.” I really believe that is possible. I spent the day with my favorite 4 and 3 year old, and there is only “in the moment” with them! 🙂 I just love that photo of the dervishes! It’s an amazing picture of being in the moment and joy! So nice, Elizabeth. Debra

    • 11/10/2012 8:59 pm

TY Debra and I agree with you as I make a daily commitment to find things to enjoy!

  15. 11/10/2012 11:21 pm

I think happiness is a choice, Elizabeth. And I guess it’s a matter of perspective. Realistically speaking, there is so much negativity in the world right now, it seems happiness has gone elusive. But if we change our focus and choose to see the beauty, then happiness comes right in front of our doorstep. It is also about learning to appreciate the small blessings that we have. The more we appreciate, the more we realize that we have a lot, and that adds to more happiness.

This was a lovely, thought-provoking post, Elizabeth. Take care always and God bless ❤ 🙂

    • 22/10/2012 10:11 pm

Well said Irene, we need to learn to adopt a spirit of gratitude at all times; starting with the small things. I agree. TY! 😉

  16. 12/10/2012 2:28 am

Happiness = my family safe; a roof over our heads; food in the house. Anything else is a bonus.

    • 12/10/2012 9:08 am

Well said Tilly! And sadly, these staples are becoming harder for some to have… so we enjoy those moments as we make our lives work. TY! 🙂

    • 12/10/2012 9:14 am

I feel happy with little things that I least expect to. With so much unfairness around me, I create my won joy. 🙂

    • 12/10/2012 9:17 am

I hear you Cee and I get what you are saying… To cut down on being frustrated, your approach is very helpful. Start with the small things and go from there. I do it too. TY! 😉

I enjoyed the poem too and marvel at how he wrote such beautiful poetry in uncomplicated, clear language… Inspiring. TY for stopping by. 😉

  20. 12/10/2012 8:41 am

I read Rumi. He is inspiring. I believe happiness is in us all we just have to focus on it. Being happy with ourselves and not trying to find it in someone else is important. That someone else will disappoint us because you wiil be looking for them to be what you perceive them to be not who they are.
I used to love that song – Don’t Worry – Be Happy . That may be the thinking that can keep you happy.

    • 12/10/2012 9:24 am

Yes indeed! We get to choose our happy spots and how we respond to others is a fair gauge of our meter. I still love that song! TY! 😉

I think we can’ t learn to appreciate and admire big things before we have learned to see the beauty in the small ones. Since those are creating happiness afterall and are more…precious.
