Haiku: Autumn Clouds…

03/10/2012

“A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed…It feels an impulsion…this is the place to go now…” Richard Bach

Haiku: Autumn Clouds… Like a wounded bride

Autumn clouds arrived
Like a wounded bride, glumly…
Grey, cold, day and night

When we need to be succinct and practice periods of quiet contemplation, a haiku can’t be beat.  Recently, I took some photos of clouds and they made me pause. Nature is so magnificent; it offers miracles everyday.

“But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.” Richard Bach

Haiku: Autumn Clouds… Her gaze followed me….

Her gaze followed me
Blue-grey, white-grey eyes, Steely…
Roiling as the sea

As I watched the clouds, they shifted; sometimes calmly, and sometimes roiling like the sea, as if angry. It was fascinating, and then I felt that deja-vu feeling we get… An ancient feeling; I’ve been here, done this before. More below!

“Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Haiku: Autumn Clouds… Her spirit darkened

Her spirit darkened
When asked what ailed … angered clouds
“Bullies in white shirts!”

What are your thoughts? What does autumn or clouds mean to you?  Are you attentive to clouds and their movements? Do you watch them and wonder? What attracts your attention in nature? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Writing Challenge: Easy As Pie. Your challenge this week is fairly straightforward as far as rules go: write about whatever you’d like, incorporating metaphor and/or simile to illustrate and highlight important parts of your story. If you’d like something more advanced, take the bull by the horns and attempt an epic simile, an extended simile that runs for several lines. Homer really liked a good epic simile, so much so that we now call them Homeric Similes; here are a few examples.

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track with reading and responding to your blogs; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: A seemingly innocuous cloud can be rich with meaning if we spend time watching, waiting, and  imagining…  Take some time to ponder.

You seem to have loads more likes than comments. I don’t remember it always being like that but I always find it strange. Anyway, “never mind all that” as I always say. I was lying in bed this morning looking out at the thinnest cirrus clouds ( I think they are called) and wondering at their delicacy and beauty. As you post intimates. Looking at them can take you to another place full of relection. Lovely

Hello Elizabeth, please excuse my absence, life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately.
I love to sit and watch the clouds and see what objects they resemble 🙂

      Hi Jim!
Glad to see you…. I can relate, it has been hectic for me too so I’m catching up still. Yes, objects they create! 🙂

    “Like a wounded bride…” – once I saw a portrait “Soldier’s Wife…” – a novel to write about this topic …

Lovely Elizabeth. I tend to be a cloud lover too and find myself paying a lot of attention to nature and love photographing clouds. Our fall clouds have rolled in too here with November like weather. I waiting for it to warm up again!

    • 10/10/2012 7:53 pm

Ahhhh the joy of early clouds! Do they linger or move? 😉

  15. 07/10/2012 5:07 pm

  17. 08/10/2012 8:07 pm

I love clouds – they are never the same, even when you stand on the same spot. Your haikus are very expressive. 🙂

Oh TY so much. I appreciate that as I’m not much of a poet. 😆

Thanks for an uplifting post. The clouds and the sky is an everyday vision of hope that better things are to come. Beautiful post and love these words, “But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.”

    • 10/10/2012 7:51 pm

I love that quote too… and it triggered something inside me on cloud gazing. TY 😉

Here in California, we see so few clouds in early autumn that it means quite a lot when then return. It has finally cooled this week from 102 degrees last week to 75 now! The patterns of the clouds, their movement and the play of light against and from behind them, is, as you say, like a miracle of nature. Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos!

    • 10/10/2012 7:52 pm

TY Karen! I was inspired by the cloud formations and the apt quotes. 😉

Nice cloud shots you have here, sis! I have to admit that I don’t really pay attention to clouds when I’m out of the house. That’s because I’m always in a hurry to get things done. Next time, I’ll make a deliberate attempt to stop and smell the roses and to watch the clouds, too.
