Reflections: Simplify In September…
“As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.” Henry David Thoreau
September sneaks by
In search of earth tones and shades
Gold, bronze, rust and rose…
August had so much packed into it that when the month ended, many were too spent to breathe a sigh of relief. But, as with the series of shots I took of the moon on the last day of August, everything changes… With September comes Fall, Labor Day, 9/11 memories, changing seasons and a reframing of our competitive spirits. We can afford to retreat and rest…
“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” Hans Hofmann
September falls in
Needs pots, pans, and hot soup too
Be vigilant. Watch…
My advice and plan is to simplify in September. We must pay attention to the accumulation of debris that must be removed in order to view and enjoy the richness of our circumstances. “The sky is the daily bread of the imagination.” Ralph Waldo Emerson… Thank you again and go be a blessing to someone 🙂 Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! What are your thoughts? How do you prepare for the changing seasons? What are your top three things to do? What plans do you have for fall? What advice would you offer others? Do share! Thank you. 😉
*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track with reading and responding to your blogs; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂
Positive Motivation Tip: Take some time to evaluate your plans for the month and simplify them… Put your feet up. Sip a cup of tea. Relax!

Beautiful moon shots! I so going to try and simplify my thoughts this September (and the months to come)! Lovely post! 🙂
Love your moon shots! I agree with the need to de-clutter our lives 🙂

Lovely moon photos. We’re going into Spring here, so I’ve been clearing some clutter, and passing it on for use by others. 🙂
The first quotation is great. “poverty will not be poverty.” I agree with it
Gosh, wasn’t that a lovely blue moon? I like your simplify ethic for September. Today I had a walk thru the beech woods and picked some oak acorns just to have at home. A simple, autumnal lovely to look at.
Such Beautiful Blue Moon Photos! Fall does feel close. Yesterday I did get a lot done organising around my house. It’s not somthing I’m very good at so it felt like a great accomplishment. Today I may do a little bit more and of course there’s always time for a little tea. I look forward to cooking in the oven more. I ran across my snow boots yesterday so I put set them close to the door knowing it’s just a matter of time. :+)
Have a beautiful September …xo
What is it about the change of seasons that makes us want to move furniture, throw out & clean? For someone like me, it is a blessing, because I’m rather cluttered!
to prepare for changing seasons i change priorities and de-clutter. i donate. i lift my eyes to the heavens. as the days and months move on, i become aware once again that it is essential to give, to love, to grow.
I’m ready for the new season. Love your moon shots…I missed it due to weather.

Simplifying is good. I have always loved September – it always feels more like renewal and rebirth than springtime. I don’t know why. I am also simplifying my life. I am going off the radar this month – virtually that is – as we are traveling and I want to refresh, pause and spend all my time with friends and loved ones. So no blog posts until early October!! Thank you for the beautiful moons…
Your blue moon photos are gorgeous! You know, Elizabeth, I need to seriously think about what you’ve said here. Simplify! What a challenge. My life is so incredibly full right now. Most of what I’m doing is pleasant, and fun and filled with family delight, and in some ways, I’m just exhausted. Doing to much! I will think about what you’ve said–thank you! Debra
I am jealous of your moon shots…I tried to capture the “blue” moon but my camera wasn’t up to the task…thanks for sharing yours.
My favorite saying…”Do not make simple things complicated”
So true my friend. You are blessed with the gift of wisdom that we all enjoy each day through the inspiring post you make. As for living a simple life, that is one of the secret to a heart at peace and filled with joy.
Ah, the k.i.s.s theory comes to my mind…and here is a Labor Day gift for you…thank you!! http://wp.me/p1RzUf-1td
great images but what I love is your idea to simplify
Lovely pics, Elizabeth.
I simplify my life by playing simple primitive fingerstyle guitar…

Very much like the moon pictures and quotes. Good reminder to think about what it is that we need to survive as opposed what we want. My step dad once said to me while we were sitting around a campfire out in the middle of Montana, “Progress is regress.” Thoreau would probably agree.
I am all for simplification. Life is complicated enough, that I don’t need to add stress to it.
Beautiful!

Beautiful shots, Eliz! 🙂 Great post.
Beautiful photos of the moon. And I love the message of simplify. Have a great day!
1.camp in Yellowstone before the snow flies
2.finish art and sewing projects and let the kitchen table be a kitchen table again
3.clean out the mudroom closet
nice post, Elizabeth! Thanks for the reminder.
beautiful moon.
Great post as usual. Enjoy this September
Beautiful as always!
Pictures are lovely. September is spring and warmer, so I’m cleaning up my garden. One day I’ll simplify. Not now though, for now I need complexity.
How did you take these beautiful pictures please?
Love the moon shots! It’s hard simplifying life in today’s world, since so much clutter is foisted upon us. Fortunately for me, I’m always saving for my next trip so I don’t spend a lot of money.
Those pictures are beautiful! Love that blue moon. I totally feel the need to simplify, I just don’t know where to start. I usually purge possessions when I should be purging my schedule. 🙂
Great post! What I love about September is not only slower pace to reflect and simplify but also the cooler air that brings much relief 🙂
Me too.. I’m ready for the change…
Wonderfully inspirational thoughts for the coming of another season – fall. The leaves changing always bring a new view on what’s to come. It’s the time to clean-up my garden and give my orchids the well needed haircut or re-potting for their fall blooms. The temperatures change and give us a boost of energy to create pretty flower beds of orange, yellows and reds. Lovely post …
You say it beautifully.. lots of changes in fall… but we get to enjoy the changes too. TY! 🙂
