Inspiration: Beauty Tips For The Soul…

BEAUTY TIPS (Encouragement for true beauty)
by Audrey Hepburn (Sam Levenson?)
For attractive lips,
speak words of kindness
For lovely eyes,
Seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure,
Share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair,
Let a child run his fingers through it once a day.
For poise,
Walk with the knowledge you’ll never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored,
renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed.
Never throw out anybody. Remember: if you ever need a helping hand,
you’ll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands.
One for helping yourself, the other for helping others. AH

You are beautiful as you are… there is no need for acrimony. Hatred of others begins with self-hatred… even when masked. We can spread some light by seeing the beauty in ourselves and others. These are inspired words from the beloved Audrey, and they are, essentially, what I would call beauty tips for the soul. How are we adding to the light?

“Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.” Khalil Gibran

Inspiration: Beauty Tips… Let the light in… (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

“You are beautiful and for you to feel the magnificence of you, you must be willing to change. You must be willing to let go of all the darkness, so you can begin to shine your light. You have been sold on many things and those things act as a blanket that obscures your light. You must be ready to change and remove all the layers that keep your light from shining.” (p318) “Drinking Nectar” Dror B. Ashuah

I have also turned to the wisdom of the angels in Dror’s book, Conversations with Angels: And So Be It, and the blockquote above and another below give us more beauty food to consider and digest. Contemplate the message. What is your beauty tip for the day? More below.

“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” Maya Angelou

Time is your friend, as it keeps you in an environment that is ever-changing, so you can learn, at every moment, about you. It is as if you are standing in a room and a lamp is lighting you from one side. That side is your youth. As you turn around slowly, the lamp illuminates a different aspect of you. Why would you not want to see one aspect and care only for the other? All aspects of you are beautiful and sacred. (p310) “The Runway” Dror B. Ashuah

If I am beautiful, why don’t I see it when I look in the mirror? If we don’t see or recognize our innate beauty when we turn our gaze to a mirror, then what old wounding messages have we internalized within? A lot of our training on what is beautiful, begins early in life and as we mature, we must work to shift our belief in limiting messages on beauty, and embrace universal, inclusive ones. It takes effort, but we are up to the task. We must make peace with our inner child. You are beautiful…

Have a spectacular day! You are already a blessing to others. 🙂 What are your thoughts? Do you have a beauty tip to share? Do you have a favorite beauty quote that grounds you? What impact has  societal expectations of image and beauty had on your life? What insights could you offer others? Do share! Thank you. 😉

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… I’m back on track with reading and responding to your blogs; albeit at a slow pace. Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Outer beauty is temporary. Inner beauty is forever. Cultivate it!

Your posts really get to me in such a good way – I am always enriched. I am having trouble forgiving an in-law or two but I know I have to in order to really shine again (sorry that sounds a bit soppy!)

    • 15/08/2012 8:38 am

It doesn’t sound soppy but I’ll laugh anyway because that was my initial reaction… 😆 Your comments make me smile too. 🙂

Love the Audrey Hepburn quote. She obviously walked the walk, too. Having worked in a narcissistic business for many years I have had my struggles with accepting my inner beauty. I was much older and wiser when the truth about inner beauty finally made sense to me.
    Love this post Elizabeth.

I read more than I comment on! I have several saved — yours take more than a quick read to do them justice.

  11. 15/08/2012 5:20 pm

Such a beautiful post Eliz! We are all beautiful but many of us fail to recognize beauty in ourselves.

    • 16/08/2012 4:37 am

Sadly… true and it starts pretty early. 🙁

  12. 15/08/2012 9:06 pm

This post will touch many, Eliz! There are millions out there who don’t believe in themselves…and therefore find it difficult to reach out to help others. The Audrey Hepburn quote is amazing…I had heard it before…but did not know who said it…thank you, Eliz, for putting a name on it. 🙂

    • 16/08/2012 4:36 am

Thank you Vivian for your wonderful, supportive nature… I wish these subjects were taught in grade school so kids can get a head start on focusing on building an inner core that compliments their outer beauty. I love the quote too and I’m glad you do too. Will stop by as I continue to play catch up. 😉

  13. 15/08/2012 9:15 pm

    You are beautiful! Thanks! 🙂

  14. 15/08/2012 9:49 pm

    Thank you for sharing this.
I totally agree with so many things I’ve read here.
In many cases, how we see the things actually changes what it is.
It might be the same thing from yesterday, but it seems totally different when we are willing to see it.
    Thank you so much.

    • 16/08/2012 4:34 am

      Exactly… that’s a profound point. TY! 🙂

  15. 15/08/2012 10:43 pm

I think it’s really hard to hold onto a healthy self image of inner beauty when the messages we mostly receive are about superficial attractiveness. I think as we age this all comes into even better focus, although I do know some women my age who are very focused on their appearance. I am more invested in maintaining good health than beauty, but often the two do go hand in hand. This is an excellent post, Eliz, and I think young women, in particular, are facing an ever increasing pressure to hide age and be anything but themselves! Debra

    • 16/08/2012 4:33 am

It is hard and that is why we need to keep at it; reminding ourselves, our kids, others that we are more than our looks. There is nothing wrong with caring about our appearance but doing the inner work must also be in tandem with the outer focus… Sure, you are right that the two go hand in hand; health and beauty. I want to look fabulous at 70 but I also want to be a fabulous being with a rich and caring interior life at that age. Vacuous beauty sucks! TY! 🙂

  16. 16/08/2012 12:34 am

Great post! I also pinned your photos: http://pinterest.com/pin/68679963038328186/
love them. And thanks for dropping by!

    • 16/08/2012 4:27 am

Thank you for the mention. Appreciate it! 🙂

  17. 16/08/2012 6:49 am

The real beauty is inside and although external beauty is ephemeral, inner beauty can last as long as we are living 🙂
    Very inspiring post!

    • 16/08/2012 5:56 pm

Yes, well said… and ephemeral is the perfect term. TY! 😉

  18. 16/08/2012 10:24 am

TY Madhu! I always have to remind myself of it as we are constantly being bombarded with opposite messages; especially after a certain age. TY dear one. 😉

  20. 16/08/2012 11:33 am

Saved the words of Audrey Hepburn… I’ve never seen anyone more beautiful as when they smile…old…young…rich…poor…It shows what they are like inside…~mkg

Great beauty tips that we can all possess in our “cosmetic bag.” The best beauty tips are often those that money cannot buy.

    • 18/08/2012 7:31 pm

Exactly… money goes only so far and then we must fulfill our chosen destiny. 🙂

  23. 18/08/2012 5:57 pm

    Beautiful! z

  24. 19/08/2012 3:10 pm

A great fitness tip for people who take exercise classes is to avoid teachers and trainers that are too harsh. They may feel that they are simply trying to motivate you, but they sometimes break your confidence and actually set you back. Try and find a trainer that suits your motivational needs. And knows skin care!
