Weekly Photo Challenge: Purple…

“There is no evil that does not promise inducements. Avarice promises money; luxury, a varied assortment of pleasures; ambition, a purple robe and applause. Vices tempt you by the rewards they offer.” Seneca

Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation. Crystal-cure.com

Purple is one of my favorite colors because it exudes a certain calm, and brings dignity and serenity to a space when used effectively. I am partial to the softer shade of lilac, but love the full range of purple hues from darkest grape to the lightest shade of an early morning lilac tinged primrose. For this week’s challenge on the color PURPLE, I have included block quotes that give us additional meanings of/for the color. Join me as we walk through a purple terminal to a garden filled with an abundance of purple floral riches and more.

“When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat which doesn’t go and doesn’t suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves, and satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.” Jenny Joseph

The color purple can mean many things such as love, power, or riches. This is because in the past in Egypt, the people believed that only people who wore purple had riches and a sense of authority. The Egyptians also believed that love came from the people who wore this color because it showed a sense of lust to everyone, this didn’t mean that they only wore this for lust though. The Egyptians as well believed that this color represented power because this type of paint was very expensive, to the poor people any way. Answers.com

When I shot those church turrets, it had just stopped raining and the evening sky was slowly beginning to darken. It had an ancient quality that made me wistful for something…

“Ah, yes! I wrote the ‘Purple Cow.’ I’m sorry, now, I wrote it! But I can tell you anyhow, I’ll kill you if you quote it!” Frank Gelett Burgess

Purple is the color for royalties. It stands for luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also the color of passion, romance and sensitivity…Purple is a rare color in nature…People who are attracted to purple are people who have an aura of mystery and intrigue. Purple is often preferred by artists. kmb-designs.com

The purple cow was part of a series of about 48 cows that went up for auction in Vermont. Local artists painted and decorated them for charity. I wrote a post on them a couple of years ago. under sacred cows, I believe… More below!

“Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen and blue, purple, and scarlet thread; with artistic designs of cherubim you shall weave them.” Exodus 26:1

Weekly Photo Challenge: Purple… Why not dance in the garden with a foxglove?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Purple…

The colour Purple in scripture is translated from the Hebrew words ‘argaman’ which means purple or red-purple and ‘arg@van’ meaning purple. The colour purple was found for example in the materials used for constructing of the Tabernacle and Temple. The curtains in the Tabernacle had purple thread used in their construction. In this context the purple represents the royalty and Kingship of God.

I’ve always loved flowers so this has been a fun exercise all around… Do come back for more, and I will be stopping by the other posts to cheer them on.  After all, isn’t that what blogging is supposed to be about? I know… some have forgotten. Have an awesome weekend! I’ll post more later. 😉

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” Alice Walker

Purple is royalty. A mysterious color, it is associated with both nobility and spirituality. Purple has a special, almost sacred place in nature: lavender, orchid, lilac, and violet flowers are often delicate and considered precious. The color of mourning for widows in Thailand, purple was the favorite color of Egypt’s Cleopatra. About.com

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Purple Purple. Another color post! These artichokes in full bloom are absolutely gorgeous and the purple doesn’t leave room for any other color in this photo. Subtle, waning purple of a sunset; vibrant purple of grapes or eggplant – what kind of purple caught your photographic eye? Share a picture that means PURPLE to you!

Positive Motivation Tip: Purple is the color of spiritual openness at a high vibrational level. It is a strong, cleansing presence. Enjoy it.

Wonderful as always, I love the Monarda and haven’t seen one for ages so thanks!

  2. 27/07/2012 3:29 pm

My goodness you have loads of examples of purple. the only thing I could think of were cabbages and even then they are classed as red cabbages.
I always connect purple with death and I’ve not a clue as to why!

  3. 27/07/2012 3:30 pm

I love the purple tunnel walkway. Fascinating.

  4. 27/07/2012 3:36 pm

All of your purple slections are outstanding. I love purple, too. My bedroom and on-suite bathroom are painted two tonal shades of purple. I have a purple pating of flowers in there. I have grown orchids in all varying shades of purple. I find the color calming and energizing all at once. I like the way there are so many different shades of the color. This was a difficult challenge because I had so many things to post. I decided that my orchids deserved the place of honro shince they have been so kind to bloom beautifully for me. It’s nice to know a fellow purple lover. ~~~~ : – )

Being from Jackson I didn’t even know Ann Arbor had an airport – and with a nice tunnel/passageway at that!

    • 28/07/2012 6:19 am

Thank you so much for your comment!!! It solved a huge MISTAKE. 🙂 Ann Arbor does have an airport, but I took my picture at The McNamara Tunnel in Detroit Airport concourse. It is a highly regarded LED light show and has been written about many times. When I read your comment, I decided to double check my ticket. Lo and behold, my Delta e-ticket was for Detroit and not Ann Arbor airport. I goggled “colorful terminal in Detroit airport” and the rest is history! I have now changed the information above and on another post I wrote. Thanks again! Danke! 🙂 I love our blogging community!!! You guys rock. 😉

Great photos as always Elizabeth! We had a similar type of art project at the Jersey shore several years ago like the purple cow, but with light houses. It was fascinating to see what people came up with for designs.
