“Love just happens. Nobody thinks about how to love, or when and where to love. Nobody is rational about love. Rational thought hinders love. Love is a sudden rising in the heart. Love is an unavoidable, unobstructable longing for oneness. There is no logic in this. It is beyond logic. So do not try to be rational about love. It is like trying to give reasons for the river to flow, for the breeze to be cool and gentle, for the moon to glow, for the sky to be expansive, for the ocean to be vast and deep, or for the flower to be fragrant and beautiful. Rationalization kills the beauty and charm of these things. They are to be enjoyed, experienced, loved and felt. If you rationalize about them, you will miss the beauty and charm and the feelings they evoke. Sit by the seashore. Look at it. Feel its vastness. Feel the rising up and down of the waves. Feel and be amazed at the creation and the creator of such magnificence. What good will it do you to rationalize about the ocean?” Amma
We talk about love all the time; about how much or how little of it we get… It’s everywhere; on the news, during holidays, in our daily conversations. It appears we live in a world obsessed with getting and keeping love, yet we place conditions on it and squeeze the spontaneity out of it. If love is beyond logic, why do we spend so much energy and time analyzing it? Perhaps, it is time to follow the hearts prompting on love. More below!

You love your religion, but you do not love all religions. Likewise, you have love for your country, but you do not love all countries. Hence, this is not Love; it is only love. Transformation of this love to Love is the goal of spirituality. In the fullness of Love blossoms the beautiful, fragrant flower of compassion.” Amma

Love is everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. Love for a child, pet, friend, lover, hobby, work, etc. all have different faces. It is in the air we breathe. Love can suffocate you if you do not let it in freely.
Had no idea you were such an ardent follower of Amma! I have to admit I don’t really ‘Love’ my religion, but actually ‘love’ (only the good in) all religions 🙂 If we stop to listen, they all speak the same language…..people interpret them differently.
Hi, Eliz. Thank you for your post on love being beyond logic. What makes us love someone so unconditionally and so willingly? No one can really put a finger on the why of this. Even our enduring love for our own offsprings or parents.
I agree with Madhu. I too respect all religions and they are all espousing the same thing. It’s when people use religion for their political and self-serving interests. But this is a gross misuse of religion. Religion should bring out our humanity, not reduce us to savages.
thank you eli sharing this, it’s like you are reading in my inspiration source, connected to the same frequence, cause i really believe that love is a feeling of life, of what happen around when our heart is touched….first you feel, second you rationalize this feeling , in order to class it : is it fear?, it is warm, ? bright?, salty ? sweet ? and after you express by words or by acts…so i agree love comes from the heart, from the inside, we should look inside, to find love, so we can project it handed by our brain to spread the love , like a breath around everything beacause nothing is strong but our feelings in the true the present moment ! with love sandra
Beautiful post. A good friend of mine said that loving is doing…after living for a while I tend to agree. Love can be hot and passionate but also warm and soft and love understands.
This makes so much sense. In our world today I believe the only unconditional love is the love for and from our animals. I aspire to transcend that limitation but it’s not easy.

The Beatles refrain reminds us, “Love is All You Need”…and it just about is…all you need, that is. 🙂
But I think it has to be an all-encompassing love of oneself (not arrogant egotistical love) and all creation…because with that comes respect for all living things…and caring about others.

Love is an amazing emotion that i sure can’t define! I’m thankful for the love in my life, and I have blessed with many people who love me, and I them in return! I don’t take that for granted! Debra

Love is, indeed, beyond logic. Otherwise we would not have parents supporting their children who turn into serial killers, serial rapists, etc.
