Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE…

22/06/2012

“In creating, the only hard thing is to begin: a grass blade’s no easier to make than an oak.” James Russell Lowell

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE…Toasted Chestnut bread w/ organic peanut butter & golden flax seed

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Met Museum – Between heaven & earth quilt by El Anatsui

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Symbol of 7th (fashion) Avenue in NYC. Needle and button.

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Robot at Ghibli Museum drawn by one of my twins (water color).

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Breakfast, Museum art, street/outdoors art, family art. We live in a constant state of creation. From our purposeful daily routines, to our deliberate and focused creative endeavors, we are creating and re-creating; searching for meaning in our world. Because a lot of our actions are spontaneous, we forget to see the organic or intuitive creativity that goes into our responses. We wake up in the morning and start creating and embracing new worlds in and for ourselves. When I woke up this morning, I decided to forgo my oatmeal and coffee, for tea, fruit, and slices of delicious, toasted chestnut bread. I spread organic peanut butter on the bread and got a bit creative by sprinkling some golden flax on top… perfect.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” George Bernard Shaw

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… The Met Museum: African art retrospective

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Sculpture Art on the street in Seattle..

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Floral painting in oil by one of my twins

Every day, from the time we wake up till bedtime and even beyond, our minds are actively creating tangible and intangible thoughts and actions. We create what we’ve imagined for our lives for that day, and we stay in that process of creating. It is like a TV channel that continues to show programming even after we’ve walked away from it… The mind, the heart, the internal machine churns on, flashing sparks of creative energy, brilliance and even flashes of genius throughout the day. For this week’s photo challenge on CREATE, I’ve pulled together a number of photos that show museum art, street art – or art we see on the street, family art, and a few eclectic pieces. I started the post with my own creation – Breakfast. I do hope you like the rest.

“Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos.” Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… The Met Museum sculpture of Virgin and Child.

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Sculpture on the Street (in nearby park) in Denver by Henry Moore…

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Man’s Struggle. Face in oil by one of my twins.

As I read Mary Wollstonecraft’s quote above, (she is the author of Frankenstein) It reminded me that we create things of pleasure and pain for ourselves. When we think about it, it makes sense. For example, there is the pain of childbirth that comes after the pleasure of conception which leads to the creation of life. Our lives are balanced between the world of pain and suffering, and the world of pleasure and joy. And it is all for our growth. More below!

“It’s important to be informed but I also think it’s important to be inspired. I’m creating a space where people can be inspired.” Daryn Kagan

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… The Met Museum: Ancient water or wine vessel.

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Street horticultural art in NYC

Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE… Another painting by one of my kids (in water)

The gathering of materials to post for a blog is an act of creation too. I have enjoyed this journey and will stop by to see what you have created too.  To close, I offer two perspectives on creating; one above and this one by Caesar. It is better to create than to learn! Creating is the essence of life.” Julius Caesar.  Hope you enjoyed this! What are your thoughts? What photos did you share on CREATE to fit the task? Was it easy/hard to find photos that supported your perspective on the subject? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! 🙂 😉

*Please bear with me as I continue to catch up on your blogs and commenting… Thank you all for your patience! 🙂

My fellow bloggers were equally creative with their selections. I listed several via Zemanta below. (I will update it and add more). We all appreciate trackbacks/ping-backs and LIKES from fellow bloggers too! Check out how others interpreted the theme – CREATE – below. ***

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: CREATE Create. The best part about creating something is being in the moment, relishing the creativity you’re experiencing, and letting your actions guide you to an end goal. Then you can step back and admire your work! This W, the WordPress logo, was something many people from the team here at WordPress.com quickly created one night at dinner with some round magnets. We snapped a picture to preserve our creation from that night. Have you snapped a picture of something you’ve created, or something someone else has created?
Share a picture that means CREATE to you!

Positive Motivation Tip: We live in a state of constant creation. Each day we turn our thoughts to creative ways to complete tasks or share a meal. We enjoy the creativity shared by others and all of it adds to our joy. Embrace your creative life. Enjoy it!

  13. 23/06/2012 3:52 pm

Robot at Ghibli Museum – wow. The detail with minimal use of color takes a special eye and a gift. Are both the twins interested in water and oil painting or is it just one with this gift? Man’s struggle an the balcony are also cool creations!

I love the quotes and the idea that we are creating every aspect of our lives as each moment passes. Lovely post. 🙂

    • 24/06/2012 2:48 am

Yes, both of them are pretty creative. Glad you liked the Ghibli museum robot. We saw it on our visit there in Mitaka outside of Tokyo. TY! 🙂

I love looking at what photos you upload for the various challenges your blog platform offers. They are always interesting and your written observations are always fun. Is this a way to connect with new people? Do people get that goal when they participate and reciprocate? I ask because of the many blogs you showed links to for others to visit. I would imagine some appreciation from most of them. Does it take much to like another blogger’s post? I ask too many questions I know. This was a good one and your children are creative too. 🙂

    • 24/06/2012 5:31 pm

It is a great way to connect with others and some choose not to for whatever reason… I don’t get that either. Thankfully, many of us do like the chance to connect and you see the result here too. I’m grateful for the reciprocity. I visited and Liked every blog listed above and even some that I haven’t had a chance to include. I love the challenges and spend the time visiting others as it’s one way I know we can all connect. It is very easy to Like a post and all the blogs listed above have activated their Like button.

hi Eliz, the Met Museum: African art retrospective: I took photos of the African sculptures there too – now they are on my living room wall in Germany …
    P.S.:
very funny: needle & button, oversized …

    • 25/06/2012 2:40 pm

Okay… Yes, the needle is quite interesting… I was glad to capture it from my car. 😉

  41. 25/06/2012 4:56 am

Love your thoughts on this. That George Bernard Shaw quote opens my eyes too. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” It’s so easy to be passive and see what unfolds in a day, but if we try to shape it ourself, it is so much more full and satisfying… like your breakfast!

    • 25/06/2012 2:42 pm

Isn’t that something? I loved the quote when I read it.. so perfect a reminder for us all… I needed to hear it. TY! 🙂

  42. 25/06/2012 5:43 am

OMG, your kids are simply wonderful, so talented. We thank God for their lives.

    • 25/06/2012 7:18 am

Amen to that! We are all growing in our household… daily. 🙂

  43. 25/06/2012 8:09 am

What a brilliant quote by Lowell! Love the paintings by your twins! Lovely post!

    • 25/06/2012 2:45 pm

TY Madhu! I’m glad I included them… They were not as enthusiastic as their mother about putting the art on the internet, but it’s here for us to enjoy. TY! 🙂

  44. 25/06/2012 11:01 am

You have very artistic, talented kids!

    • 25/06/2012 11:04 am

TY and I will let them know because they don’t spend much time admiring their work. 🙂

  45. 26/06/2012 2:16 am

      • 04/07/2012 7:15 pm

I feel ya – I’ve just started getting caught up myself…it’s pretty daunting after being away for awhile! How you are feeling better soon!

      • 04/07/2012 7:18 pm

It is daunting and I keep thinking of the how instead of the do… So it’s time to just do it… I applaud your effort. TY and I hope to get better too. 🙂
