Inspiration: Nik Wallenda – The Impossible Is Possible…

“The impossible is not quite the impossible if you set your mind to it.” Nik Wallenda

Inspiration: Nik Wallenda – The Impossible is possible…

“I think that’s what life is about. We all go through challenges. But once we get through them, we look back and say look how much our lives have changed by going through that challenge.” “If you can focus on the other side, when you look back it makes it that much easier.” Nik Wallenda on ABC

Last Friday, June 15th, Nik Wallenda walked across the raging waters of Niagara Falls on a highwire with prayers on his lips and a harness at his waist to help break a fall. He became the first person to complete that daring task and accomplish a lifetime dream that would have made his great grandfather, Karl Wallenda proud. Nik Wallenda is a seventh-generation member of The Flying Wallendas; a family of aerialists led by the late Karl and known for their daredevil feats performing highwire shows without a safety net. Throughout the 25+ minute walk, he prayed. On Good Morning America, Nik said, “I really prayed non-stop… The Bible says pray without ceasing and I’m always praying.”

“What is the purpose of your trip sir?” the Canadian Border agent asked. “To inspire people around the world,” Nik Wallenda (Arriving on Canadian side)

Watch the ABC video here: Nik Wallenda’s Tightrope Walk Over Niagara Falls – Niagara’s most daring stunts

What made Nik’s performance particularly powerful was the fact that he came to the task prepared and humble. At 200 feet in the air, Nik braved the winds and spray mist as he ambled across, what ABC news described as, a two-inch-wide wire strung over the raging waters of Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three falls that make up Niagara Falls. Braving blinding winds and mist, the 1,500-foot walk took him a little more than 25 minutes to complete. The lesson for us is not only about going out on a limb to achieve our dreams, but also to be prepared, focused, and faithful to our original goal; to imagine the impossible as possible. More below!

“No one in the world has ever done it and I already have the permits. It’s about 5,000 feet long, almost a mile.” Nik Wallenda (Plans to scale The Grand Canyon)

In the book Walking the Straight and Narrow: Lessons in Faith from the High Wire, Tino Wallenda, Nik’s uncle, shares many stories about the struggles, accomplishments and acts of faith the brave Wallenda family experienced over the years. It is an inspiring tale and affirms Nik’s belief that the impossible can become possible. Supposedly, one of Karl Wallenda’s favorite lines was “Life Is On The Wire…” Karl lived life fully and dared to go after the impossible dream. He would have been thrilled to see Nik accomplish a huge feat on Friday. Often, many of us stop dreaming because we are fearful, we fail, or we believe the limitations others place on us. We must take that journey on our highwire, again and again, and trust that we will come out at the other end unscathed. Without trying, we’d never grow or learn. Go for it!

Stay Inspired! What are your thoughts? Have you done the impossible lately? When was the last time you wished to take a leap but held back? Do you see the power of faithful action in your life? Do share! Thank you.

I was touched by his feat, his humility and fervent prayers… TY! 🙂

This is awesome – I’ve never desired to walk a physical high wire, climb a mountain or sail the seas. Every day we all face challenges, which are small by comparison, but have no less dramatic effect to our lives, when conquered. This is a call to at least take the first step on that crossing! Thank you, Eliabeth, for a thought provoking article! 🙂

    • 19/06/2012 9:58 pm

TY for your feedback and I agree it is a call to action. 🙂

Thanks for the post. He is inspiring and so are your words.

  8. 19/06/2012 6:17 am

That is just so extreme! I’m glad he had the power of prayer and yes, I’d agree that can lead to spectacular success but wow. That is crazy!! That’s two inches! I guess I’m basically terrified of that idea because of a lack of balance in myself. Obviously, it’s very natural for them.

Love the whole concept of pushIng oneself passed limits we artificially set! I would do it 1000 ways but walking a tightrope over Niagara? Uh- pass on that one! 😉

    • 20/06/2012 8:48 am

I hear you… I don’t like heights so I’ll pass on that one but the message, the conviction and the power of his faith called my heart. TY!

This post makes me want to keep my “daredevil promise” to myself to go skydiving! I am not afraid of heights, but free falling until the parachute blooms would be a scary experience. One day, I will do it! And yes, sometimes with other (less dangerous) choices in life, we should just get over our doubts and take a step =)

    • 20/06/2012 8:49 am

Oh! I’m all for embracing our inner daredevil but only the ones that are not dangerous… TY! 😆
