Inspiration: Happy Father’s Day…

16/06/2012

“I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.” Sigmund Freud

Inspiration: Happy Father’s Day… I love you

♥I send Happy Father’s Day wishes to all who have shared sacred space and stories with their kin.
♥I pay homage to Ochiagha, my beloved late father whose blessings, love and generous spirit continue to flow even in his absence.
♥I send warm heartfelt thanks to Rich, loving dad to A and A; an all-around good and loving soul.
♥I send loving shout-outs to Dike, Ikem, Richard Ik and Princewill, my brothers and loving fathers too.
♥I send kudos to Uncle Tony, Chuks, our President and all the strong, striving dads out there in the world.

Since I wrote my first Father’s Day blog post Amidst the Deluge: Abundant Love for Father’s Day in 2009, and subsequent posts On Father’s Day: The Gift of Wisdom in 2010 and On Father’s Day: Memories of Love Lost & Found… in 2011, a lot has changed; both in my life and in the world around us. However, the one constant is that on this Father’s Day, the love we have for our dads, grand dads, brothers, husbands, and sons will be celebrated. My dad was the rock of our household and and held a special place in my heart. Like other dads, he wanted the best for his kids and gave us his best. Each year, I offer an invocation in which I name the men in my family and other male figures. I offer it again this year (see above) as its message remains true. Happy Father’s Day!

“The most important influence in my childhood was my father.”  DeForest Kelley

Inspiration: Happy Father’s Day… You were our rock of Gibraltar

Father’s Day By Mary Frances Bogle
Over the years
As we grow old,
We remember our father
So brave and bold.

In the garden,
Leaning on the plow,
He would listen to me;
I see him now.

He would give advice
And understand;
He was always there
To lend a hand.

God made fathers
Strong and firm,
For he knew our lives
Would have great concerns.

So he gave us fathers
To teach us to pray,
And guide our lives,
And show us the way.

So on his day
Let’s take the time
To say “Thanks, dad.
I’m glad you’re mine.”

It is so easy to talk about our parents and how much they cared, and still forget to say Thank You! Thank you Dad… for everything. While we honor the many ways our fathers supported our families today, the role of father is an everyday affair. Some fathers exceed the norm, others do the best they can. It is never too late to reconnect with loved ones and it is imperative to keep at it; our children don’t stay young forever and their memories are quite long. What have you done to show fatherly love today? Happy Father’s Day! More below.

“Love and fear. Everything the father of a family says must inspire one or the other.”  Joseph Joubert

My dad did not teach us to be fearful…  His advice to me was always “Do not be afraid. Have courage. Have a strong heart.” Because he came from a different generation, he loved us the only way he knew how… by providing for his  family and leaving a legacy of grace, service, and a solid work ethic.  For Father’s Day, I honor  every Dad out there who truly cares… Love and blessings to all. Happy Father’s Day!

Positive Motivation Tip: Our parents contribute more to us than our DNA. they help shape our lives and build our character.  On Father’s Day celebrate yours.

TY Barb! Sometimes I flash back to the day my dad died, and at other times it seems as if he is still alive. 🙂
