Inspiration: The Infinite Grace In Moments…

08/05/2012

“From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” John 1:16

Inspiration: The Infinite Grace In Moments…

“The more grateful I am the more abundant I feel.”
Keep saying this affirmation and notice the positive
effects it has on your day. Robert Holden

Do you have moments when you feel the presence of grace is so palpable that you can touch it? Imagine this: Every night we go to bed, there is no guarantee that we will see the sun rise the following morning or the comfort of our bed the following night. Yet, we retire each night with a spirit of grace and acceptance that all will be well … and it usually is. Each breath we take during the night and thereafter represent moments of infinite grace. We inhale and exhale unspoken blessings that are showered on us regardless of our beliefs. And each of those breath moments can be an opportunity to encourage and bless others… I’ll share an example in a story/incident below.

“I want peace. I want to see if somewhere there isn’t something left in life of charm and grace.” Margaret Mitchell

“Grace is available for each of us every day – our spiritual daily bread – but we’ve got to remember to ask for it with a grateful heart and not worry about whether there will be enough for tomorrow.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

Diahann, one of my closest friends, and I met at The Metropolitan Museum this afternoon. We had planned to see the special exhibit; a fashion retrospective – Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. It was planned weeks ago and the day had arrived and we were excited. We agreed to meet by the information booth and as far I was concerned, all was set as planned. I got ready, grabbed some fruit, and headed to my car. I drove off, calculating in my head how long it’d take me to get to E 82nd St.

As I a turned a sharp corner in the road, my car banked left then right and in a flash, I thought it would spin out of control. My little car groaned in terror as the brakes screeched into action, refusing to yield to what appeared to me as a forgone conclusion – an accident in the making with me in a ditch. But it didn’t happen that way. Instead, my car steadied itself as I released the brakes and uttered a prayer. What I felt in that moment was the presence of infinite grace. I was very grateful, and said a quiet thank you before continuing my trip. We all have these moments every day; when we drop a glass jam jar that doesn’t break, when we narrowly avoid hitting our head on something sharp, when we find that parking spot or special deal, when we receive/offer help when most needed… with it must come a grateful thank you!  May we all embrace that grace.  More below.

“Grace isn’t a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It’s a way to live.” Jackie Winspear

“Learn to limit yourself; to content yourself with some definite work; dare to be what you are and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not; and to believe in your own individuality.” Henri Frederic Amiel

Grace by Forrest Hamer via Famouspoetsandpoems
This air is flooded with her. I am a boy again, and my mother
and I lie on wet grass, laughing. She startles, turns to
marigolds at my side, saying beautiful, and I can see the red
there is in them.
When she would fall into her thoughts, we’d look for what
distracted her from us.
My mother’s gone again as suddenly as ever and, seven months
after the funeral, I go dancing. I am becoming grateful.
Breathing, thinking, marigolds

Even though Forrest wrote this poem about his mother, I am, in my mind, inserting my father in the words as the anniversary of his death is here. I admired my dad a lot; he was my first hero and his death was a huge blow to all of us. Yet, I have found that his blessings, his advice, his wisdom and his benevolence remain present in my life. There is an infinite grace that touches me when I remember him.  And the love he had for us, though unspoken, is present in many ways and moments. I believe we all have these connections with our loved ones and when we remember them, somewhere out there, we are also being remembered… with grace.
Stay Inspired! What are your thoughts? How do you see grace in your life? What do you think grace means? What infinite moments of blessings have you noted in your life? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

You must have a great bond with your father. I hope you inherited all good qualities in you from him. I will completely agree with you on “each of those breath moments we have can be an opportunity to encourage and bless others”. Great post Elizabeth. Lots of good wishes for you. 🙂

In Ghana, especially among Orthodox Christians and Muslims, people normally repsond to a greeting of ‘how are you?” with “By HIs Grace, we are doing fine.” or “It’s by Grace.” The Grace of God and that infinite peace permeate our everyday life and so the typical Ghanaian mentality to solving most problems is “give it to God” becasue we know that the grace of God will see us through. This also makes us a peace loving nation and very hospitable to foreigners. Grace and Peace be unto you! Shalom!

You are right and I can testify to that too… You are a peaceful, loving people. I think also when we operate from a place of peace it is present in our interactions and we are reminded easily to think of the consequences of our actions. TY! 🙂

    GRACE UPON GRACE
    YES I AGREE SO MUCH
    WHEN WE FEEL IT
NOTHING CAN MOVE US FROM THAT SPACE …..

    BEAUTIFUL POST 🙂

In the past year the numbers 316 continually have been showing up in my life, I wake in the middle of the night more often than not at 316, when I am looking for an address driving down the street I always see 316, I see that number all the time.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
I feel God is trying to tell me something and I think that it is that everything will be all right.

I tried to leave you a comment earlier but my connection is (apparently) bad right now. 🙁

I just wanted to thank you for sharing these lovely quotes and stories, etc, to illustrate these thoughts on grace. Beautifully written – love the verse you chose to start with! – and I love the Jackie Winspear quote because it really is a way to live. 🙂 Grace is an amazing thing and a wonderful blessing… Thanks for sharing!

Condolences on the loss of your parents. I know the emptiness, as my parents are both deceased as well. But I don’t think our parents are ever really far away spiritually, even though physically we’ve lost them forever. I feel the presence of my own parents around all of the time. They will always reside in my heart, as I am sure your parents, will your remain in your heart. As always, you’ve shared with us another warm and thought provoking post. Thank you. 🙂

TY Orples and I agree that loved ones stay close to guide and help us. Yes, I feel my dad’s presence often, and I hope I didn’t create any confusion as my mom is alive… Merci for the thoughtful comment. 😉

This is a beautiful and powerful post. It is an inspired reminder that we are all touched by grace every day and that a spirit of gratitude will make it grow. You conitnue to inspire and uplift me as you do others and I bless you. Don’t give in or up through your own struggles. Like Jim, I feel that all will be well. You are grace.

Amen to that and TY for saying that… I believe Jim’s message is for all of us who are dealing with complex situations too. All will be well. 🙂

I’m glad and relieved to hear your car steadied itself.. Gratitude is a great attitude…and little becomes much when we are grateful or appreciative of it. Be blessed!

Remembering the beauty of days gone by can be sweet and fill up the holes opened by the loss of a deeply important influence. All the wisdom, laughter, love and lesson learned from a father can fill us with beauty to share with others or allow us to dwell in sadness. We need to appreciate with grace. In that way, your father lives on in what you share with others. Forever. ((hugs))

    • 13/05/2012 12:34 pm

TY Karen and you said it well… We all carry on some part of our legacy in us and we can be lights on the path if we stay open to the grace. TY! ((hugs))

This is a very moving post. I love that you have used the words to remember your dear father. The loss of one’s father, under any circumstances and no matter the length of life, is a big hole in the heart. Warm hugs to you Elizabeth. Debra

TY Debra! i am always astonished at the emotions that come up even though it has been quite a while… Our parents have tremendous influence on us that is why we must be careful to treat our kids with love and care. ((hugs)) to you! 🙂

I see the Grace of God directly touch my life every time I spend some moments reflecting on his law. As Psalm 1:2 says, “But his delight is in the LAW of the LORD, and in his Law doth he meditate day and night”. Making Bible study a part of your daily routine is enough for God to shower his infinite blessings on you. If you want God to send Grace along your way every day of your life, never detach from the umbilical cord connecting him to you. As human beings we are all sinners. Only the Grace of the Lord can prevent us from becoming victim of our sinful nature.
