SPRING: First Day Flowers…

19/03/2012

“He knew a path that wanted walking; He knew a spring that wanted drinking; A thought that wanted further thinking” Robert Frost

SPRING: First Day Flowers... crocus

SPRING: First Day Flowers... budding Japanese peony

“If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies.” Nadine Stair

A Prayer in Spring by Robert Frost (1915)
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees. Contd

Tuesday, March 20th is the first day of spring. It’s official; we can discard our winter blues, climb out of the doldrums and dance in the yard. I can’t believe a new season is upon us! I am thrilled that the plants and seeds we sowed will soon show their precious blooms. Recently, I walked around my yard and took a few pictures of our early flowers. I hope you enjoy them and the poems I’ve shared.

It’s spring fever…. You don’t quite know what it is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! Mark Twain

SPRING: First Day Flowers... Stripped crocus...

SPRING: First Day Flowers... daffodil

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

Spring is such a special time of growth for all living things. We come out of hibernation eager to spread our wings and soar to new heights in our life journey… I love spring and it never disappoints. More below. 😉

“One swallow does not make a spring, nor does one fine day” Aristotle

SPRING: First Day Flowers... hellebore

SPRING: First Day Flowers ... mini daffodils know.

A little Madness… by Emily Dickinson
A little madness in the Spring
Is wholesome even for the King,
But God be with the Clown —
Who ponders this tremendous scene —
This whole Experiment of Green —
As if it were his own!

Spring is here. Don’t waste time bemoaning the snow we missed in winter, or the impending rains in spring… embrace the new season! What about you? What are your thoughts? What do you plan to do this spring? What memories do you hold of spring time? What’s your favorite season? Do share! Thank you! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Spring is here, go get your gear and shed the winter doldrums from your hair…

On the first day of spring, my dad always gets an egg to stand on end. He says it’s the only day of the year that he can do it. I say, “Okaaay, Dad…”

It’s still cold I. The UK, but leaves are beginning to unfurl on the trees and flowers beginning to blossom. Happy Vernal Equinox (to those in the Northern Hemisphere) 🙂

Happy Spring, Elizabeth! Beautiful flowers and beautiful photos. You do have a green thumb. Could you tell me your secret? My plan is to plant a veggie garden (that’s my plan every Spring). I will have to find some way to keep out the deer and the rabbits!! It’s been non-stop rain here so I’m quite happy to have the change of season, signal warming weather!

  22. 20/03/2012 3:36 pm

My favorite season is autumn, though we don’t see much of it here! As for spring? My first plan is, as you know, CHICAGO! So excited.

  23. 20/03/2012 5:49 pm

  24. 20/03/2012 8:50 pm

Your photos are beautiful as usual. I love spending time outside, so Spring for me is a time to spruce up my outdoor spaces–yard and patio. Happy Spring!

  25. 20/03/2012 9:04 pm

  29. 21/03/2012 12:44 pm

Lovely feast of spring. I like the Frost quote where you begin.

  30. 21/03/2012 8:23 pm

Beautiful flowers. I am thrilled beyone belief to see spring but then again there is an awful lot of pollen this year. The bees should be very happy.

  31. 22/03/2012 8:10 am

Spring is the most beautiful of the four seasons – so lively and colourful 🙂

  32. 22/03/2012 2:21 pm

Gorgeous flowers! A real spring treat!

  33. 23/03/2012 10:42 am

Yes yes, yes,I am so totallly with Robert Frost and his prayer that we would be kept in the open blossom time, not fretting over the harvest!

  34. 23/03/2012 11:25 am

Thank you for sharing you spring flowers.

My garden usually starts with blue blooms (I can’t remember what they are) poking up through the snow. It really makes me happy because they remind me that winter is almost over. This year they are blooming as usual, but it is a record high 77 degrees!!!

I still love the first blooms of spring, though.

  35. 23/03/2012 1:28 pm

Spring came way too early this year. Hoping it is not a harbinger of a long hot summer.

  36. 23/03/2012 8:22 pm

We don’t have spring – just a rainy season, and it gets a little warmer, here in the tropics. I do miss the seasons!

  37. 23/03/2012 8:47 pm

Lovely flowers! Thank you for the spring treat. It’s autumn here, but I do grateful for your kind spirit! 🙂
