He says, “There’s nothing left of me.
I’m like a ruby held up to the sunrise.
Is it still a stone, or a world
made of redness? It has no resistance
to sunlight.”
This is how Hallaj said, I am God,
and told the truth!
The ruby and the sunrise are one.
Be courageous and discipline yourself.
Completely become hearing and ear, and wear this sun-ruby as an earring…

March 11th Remembrance: A year ago today, Japan was hit by a devastating Tsunami, the unseen became seen, and many lives were lost. Let’s pause for a silent moment of prayer, and extend our goodwill wishes for the people of that nation.

Didn’t I tell you
not to be satisfied with the veil of this world?
I am the master illusionist,
it is me, who is the welcoming banner at the gate of your contentment.

I am an ocean, you are a fish;
do not go to the dry land,
it is me, who is your comforting body of water.
Didn’t I tell you?
They will accuse you of all the wrongdoings,
they will call you ugly names,
they will make you forget
it is me, who is the source of your happiness.
The world is as we see it… We can look behind our veil for truth or grasp for straws… Either way, the mystical poets tell us that when we are ready, we can see the unseen. More below.;-)

I am so happy, I cannot be contained in the world;
But like a spirit, I am hidden from the eyes of the world.
If the foot of the trees were not tied to earth, they would be pursuing me;
For I have blossomed so much, I am the envy of the gardens.

and a spring-source rises under everything,
a moon sliding from the shadows.

Spring is here and, soon, all the hidden shoots will start growing and blooming. May we all see the unseen and delight in it. What are your thoughts? Do you read Rumi’s poems? When Rumi tells us that the faults we see in others are really our own reflected back at us, perhaps the reverse is true…I do believe that when we project a positive and loving attitude towards those we come into contact with, we will receive the same from them in return.

Beautiful photos and sentiments. I must confess my ignorance toward Rumi who I just read was noted as the most popular poet in America in 2007. I cannot say I love his poems because I do not know them nor the perspective from which they emanate – although you have peaked my interest and, as you can see, I’ve started the reading process. Thanks Elizabeth. Today, I feel a little more enlightened. 🙂
He is famous for his love poems but he is a poet of the human experience; a deep mystical, spiritual thinker and philosopher. His poems are alive and powerful. 🙂

Many of my favorite Tweets are Rumi quotes! I have been called a mystic myself, but I would put myself into such esteemed company! I adore the mystics and their constant call to me to look beneath all surfaces, especially with people! In nature, I am quite adept at seeing what others miss!
