Rumi: Seeing The Unseen…

11/03/2012

“Everyone sees the unseen in proportion to the clarity of his heart, and that depends upon how much he has polished it. Whoever has polished it more sees more — more unseen forms become manifest to him…” Rumi

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

He says, “There’s nothing left of me.
I’m like a ruby held up to the sunrise.
Is it still a stone, or a world
made of redness? It has no resistance
to sunlight.”
This is how Hallaj said, I am God,
and told the truth!
The ruby and the sunrise are one.
Be courageous and discipline yourself.
Completely become hearing and ear, and wear this sun-ruby as an earring…

The mystic poets, Rumi, Rabia, Hafiz, Gibran, Milarepa, Mirabai, Mansur al-Hallaj, and others, never hesitate to take us deep into the realm of the unseen; shedding light on the meaning of life, the complexities of nature and the unflinching truth. Enjoy the excerpts included here from Rumi; he is one of my favorites. March 11th Remembrance: A year ago today, Japan was hit by a devastating Tsunami, the unseen became seen, and many lives were lost. Let’s pause for a silent moment of prayer, and extend our goodwill wishes for the people of that nation.

“Many of the faults you see in others, dear reader, are your own nature reflected in them.” Rumi

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

Didn’t I tell you
not to be satisfied with the veil of this world?
I am the master illusionist,
it is me, who is the welcoming banner at the gate of your contentment.
Didn’t I tell you?
I am an ocean, you are a fish;
do not go to the dry land,
it is me, who is your comforting body of water.
Didn’t I tell you?
They will accuse you of all the wrongdoings,
they will call you ugly names,
they will make you forget
it is me, who is the source of your happiness.

The world is as we see it… We can look behind our veil for truth or grasp for straws… Either way, the mystical poets tell us that when we are ready, we can see the unseen. More below.;-)

“Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart.” Rumi

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

I am so happy, I cannot be contained in the world;
But like a spirit, I am hidden from the eyes of the world.
If the foot of the trees were not tied to earth, they would be pursuing me;
For I have blossomed so much, I am the envy of the gardens.

We are all blessed with gifts that we bring into the world. Our purpose is to learn to master them, share them, use them to uplift others. Our gifts grow as we learn to share them and, with time, that which is hidden is revealed for all to enjoy…  What is your particular work?  More below… 🙂

“Love said to me,there is nothing that is not me. Be silent.” Rumi

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

I Died as a Mineral – Rumi
I died as a mineral and became a plant,
I died as plant and rose to animal,
I died as animal and I was Man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?
Yet once more I shall die as Man, to soar
With angels blest; but even from angelhood
I must pass on: all except God doth perish.
When I have sacrificed my angel-soul,
I shall become what no mind e’er conceived.
Oh, let me not exist! for Non-existence
Proclaims in organ tones, To Him we shall return…

Regeneration is a fact of life. We benefit from the process as each living form is tied to others, and the process of birth, growth, and death helps the species evolve…

“Whoever gives reverence receives reverence.” Rumi

Rumi: Seeing The Unseen...

Again, the season of Spring has come
and a spring-source rises under everything,
a moon sliding from the shadows.
–Rumi, “Spring”

Spring is here and, soon, all the hidden shoots will start growing and blooming. May we all see the unseen and delight in it. What are your thoughts? Do you read Rumi’s poems? Which one comes to mind? Do you see the unseen in the changing seasons? How do you celebrate mystery? Do share! Thank you. 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Plinky: Describe what it feels like when the season starts to change.

Positive Motivation Tip: The mystical poets shed deep light on that which we look at superficially. Reflect: see the unseen.

    Beautiful post, Elizabeth!
When Rumi tells us that the faults we see in others are really our own reflected back at us, perhaps the reverse is true…I do believe that when we project a positive and loving attitude towards those we come into contact with, we will receive the same from them in return.
Have a lovely week, dear friend…spring is just around the corner. 🙂

    Hi Eliz

“Love said to me, there is nothing that is not me.”

I’m going to pinch that one.

    It’s sort of like…

“Love is the answer. What is the question?” (source unknown)

.What a wonderful way to start a Monday, a week, a life. With Rumi. Always one of my favorite poes, particualy when translated by Coleman Barks. Maybe because he’s a poet as well, but his translations have a music about them.
Thank you so very much for posting, all day I will have a smile.

…..When your chest is free of your limiting ego,
Then you will see the ageless Beloved.
    You can not see yourself without a mirror;
Look at the Beloved, He is the brightest mirror

Beautiful photos and sentiments. I must confess my ignorance toward Rumi who I just read was noted as the most popular poet in America in 2007. I cannot say I love his poems because I do not know them nor the perspective from which they emanate – although you have peaked my interest and, as you can see, I’ve started the reading process. Thanks Elizabeth. Today, I feel a little more enlightened. 🙂

    • 12/03/2012 12:40 pm

He is famous for his love poems but he is a poet of the human experience; a deep mystical, spiritual thinker and philosopher. His poems are alive and powerful. 🙂

Many of my favorite Tweets are Rumi quotes! I have been called a mystic myself, but I would put myself into such esteemed company! I adore the mystics and their constant call to me to look beneath all surfaces, especially with people! In nature, I am quite adept at seeing what others miss!

    • 13/03/2012 11:18 pm

Oh you are a mystic and I’m glad you enjoyed this too… 🙂
