Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Yeah, I know... death by cupcakes 😉

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... let them eat cupcakes...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Cupcakes galore

Indulge (Verb): To give free rein to: to take unrestrained pleasure in: gratify: to yield to the desire of: humor: to treat with excessive leniency, generosity, or consideration: to indulge oneself. Allow oneself to enjoy the pleasure of…

The very word – Indulge- brings up visions and memories of moments of guiltless pleasures; our rare yet zestful enjoyment of a forbidden pleasure or our enjoyment of a simple one we put off for a special day. Much of what we experience in life includes moments of celebration; an indulgence of our appetites. Restraint and enjoyment are equally important. For this challenge, I thought of many things that give me unrestrained pleasure; delicious food, spa visits, travel, music, dancing, great conversations and even a good joke. Yet, what kept coming back to me as fitting for this exercise, at least visually, was food. For the last several years, there has been a growing trend in creating/selling exquisite cupcakes, (check out From MIT To A Bakery: The Story Of The Sweet Lobby) and I wanted to feature a few… and  some other foods too.

Self-denial is indulgence of a propensity to forego…” Ambrose Bierce

National Nutrition Month
I ended up visiting my local Whole Foods Market and taking pictures of the impressive array of colorful foods there… The results are here for your indulgence… Then feel free to go take a bubble bath or a walk in the park. Since March is National Nutrition Month, it would make sense to add healthy foods to the mix and I captured my share of those at the market.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Chocolates too...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Antipasto olives

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... more chocolates

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... More antipasto...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Flowers...

I am always impressed by the way food looks when it is displayed in a creative way with care and an eye for pleasure. Who wouldn’t want to indulge in eating the incredibly colorful vegetables above? or the chocolates? colorful olives? and cupcakes? I’d say, stop by and indulge a while… Come back for more…

Negative thinking is always expensive — dragging us down mentally, emotionally, and physically — hence I refer to any indulgence in it as a luxury.” Peter McWilliams

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Seafood too

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... All manner of sausage...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Seafood...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Happy as a clam...

Since man does not live by bread alone, I think it is apropos to include other foods that help us stay healthy and add to our pleasurable moments of indulgence. I don’t eat meat but fish is an important part of my diet… We can have a serving or two and not feel so full. I included the sausages because they were so attractive in the display case. What do you think?

“Ambition has its disappointments to sour us, but never the good fortune to satisfy us. Its appetite grows keener by indulgence and all we can gratify it with at present serves but the more to inflame its insatiable desires.” Benjamin Franklin

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... More desserts to enjoy...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Dessert

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Mangia!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... More Gelato

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge... Enjoy the fruit...

When we talk about indulging our sweet tooth, we mean business. The showcase of sweet desserts above will give any foodies sweet satisfaction and more. I was impressed by how much one could choose from. But how do you choose and what do you leave behind when you are enjoying an indulgent moment? Key is to remember to enjoy it for the day and then get back on track to eating healthy again… It’s called an indulgence for a reason; we can’t afford to make this a permanent experience… Well, I can’t. What about you?
What are your thoughts? What photos depicting Indulge did you find? Was it easy/hard to find photos that made sense of your views on Indulge? Were you drawn to certain types of photos for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! 🙂 😉

I haven’t had lunch yet. Now I really am starving. All of that looks so delectable.

    • 07/03/2012 7:36 pm

Choose wisely! And of course, end with dessert. 🙂

  18. 02/03/2012 12:44 pm

I love the way they display every variety of food – presentation is everything, don’t you think? Lots to indulge in there.
Great selection of pics, you have been very busy!

    • 07/03/2012 7:38 pm

TY Barb and, you know, our supermarkets don’t all do this… Whole Foods is a cut above, in my opinion.

  19. 02/03/2012 1:33 pm

It’s called an indulgence for a reason; we can’t afford to make this a permanent experience…
I’d do well to remember this the next time I ponder whether to buy a box of cookies. Once they enter my apartment, I find it nigh impossible to not heed their calls to devour them.

I have some work to do on making indulgence be a little more indulgent and a little less customary!

    • 07/03/2012 7:42 pm

I indulge now and again because I find that if we have a piece of cake or muffin, we can move on and eat other foods and not have it lingering in the back of our mind. 🙂

  20. 02/03/2012 10:05 pm

Wow! You outdid yourself with these photos! Indulgence, indeed! We are so fortunate to have so many beautiful foods so accessible…we are indulged 🙂 Debra

    • 07/03/2012 7:44 pm

TY Debra and you raised an important point. We are indulged; especially in the West and a grateful heart is needed… 🙂

    • 03/03/2012 3:01 pm

  29. 03/03/2012 5:02 pm

Wow! That’s a delectable array of eye candy there, E! Nice job catching a few of the “affordable indulgences” at Whole Foods.

    Mangia!

    • 03/03/2012 5:16 pm

It is quite the place… Isn’t it? I started paying attention to their displays; far more superior than our average supermarket…and then decided to go back and take photos. As someone said, they must hire display artists to do the job… Yes, a few things were affordable. 😉
