On Gifts: Seven Made Just For You…

On Gifts: Seven Made Just For You… You Win!

All of us—even the darkest and unluckiest of us—get seven particular moments, those brief, unexpected times when the stars do more than align; they communally redirect their light expressly to illuminate the value of our wee, earthly existence. Leigh Newman

Today, I was reading an article on Oprah.com that was so inspiring I had to share it with you. The piece, The 7 Gifts from the Universe That Everybody Gets, is written by Leigh Newman and shares a remarkable insight, that, sooner or later, each of us gets to enjoy seven moments of glory we all get—no matter what, no matter who. We don’t experience them all at once, just randomly. As I reviewed each one, I could think of examples in my life that fit them exactly. The more I considered each gift, the more extraordinary and appreciative the experience became. I share the seven gifts with you below. For a moment, withhold all judgment and think back to key episodes in your life that, by sheer serendipity, fit each gift below and that taught you life long lessons.

1. You (senselessly) win. Many of us go around claiming we are unlucky at special drawings or random pickings. But one day, we win/will win something; tickets, a fruit basket, the office pool; what Leigh calls “a windfall without effort.”

2. You’re seen. In our youth, we get a lot of attention for our beauty and exuberance; something we might miss as we age. However, there are those magical moments when we connect with somebody out there; at an event, a show or a meeting. We meet someone who gets us; they zero in on our full and unique sensibility; accepting and applauding us as we are – You being you.

3. You get the opportunity to learn about something bigger than yourself.  A sign of maturity is our ability to empathize with another person’s pain; what Leigh calls “the awakening of grace.” Sooner or later, we get to be a source of comfort to another; we hold their hands and connect with them at the very time they feel most alone.

4. You’re spared. Yesterday, I shared a snippet of how I was spared… We all have stories in our treasure chest of when/how/why we were spared a close call. We lived. We didn’t die. We were given the chance to live.
More below. 😉

“The greatest gift is to give people your enlightenment, to share it. It has to be the greatest.” Gautama Buddha

On Gifts: Seven Made Just For You… You are right!

They are on their own time schedule. They have happened to you or will happen to you sooner or later. The key is not letting them slip by uncelebrated. Leigh Newman

We are all beneficiaries of a universal intelligence that looks for ways to encourage and uplift us. If we slow down long enough to attune our minds to the positive field of energy around us, we open channels of blessings that mirror what Leigh describes.  We have to be in concert with the gift giving; meaning that an open heart and mind makes it easier to become a recipient of these special windfalls.

5. Somebody comes back. If you live long enough, you get to experience this phenomenon. An old friend, lover, person we had major or minor conflicts with returns. They come back for a whole slew of reasons including a karmic break to resolve old issues and conflicts, complete an unspoken agreement or even to give us a second chance at – love, friendship, wisdom, etcetera…one of those leave-ers comes back.

6. You are right. There are times in our lives when our wisdom/advice to others comes true; confirming that we are/were right. It might be a warning or tip to a friend or family and while we might wish we weren’t so accurate, the lesson is there to be learned. We are right.

7. You’re loved. All of us want to be heard, appreciated, respected and above all loved. While some of us might get what appears to be more or less loving memories, we will have moments in our lives when we experience what it means to be loved; albeit temporarily… Hopefully, our love moments will last, linger, grow. According to Leigh, it is possible that we will have opportunities to experience these special moments, each of these seven gifted moments, over and over and over again.

What are your thoughts? Do you believe in miracle moments? Do you have memories of events that fit the seven moments of grace listed? Which of the seven would you love to experience first? Which would you change and what would you add? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: Embrace life wholeheartedly, trusting that the seven gifts are as much yours as they are anyone else’s.

All of this makes sense. I have received and experienced all 7 gifts. Miracles do happen to us everyday. Some so small we sometimes take them for granted or even complain because we haven’t yet learned to look outside of ourselves. Thanks for putting these gifts into perspective.Great post!

    • 07/02/2012 8:05 pm

Good for you and yes, we forget that the tiny details add something to the whole. TY! 🙂

Thank you-your wise and kind words are a timely reminder! I so needed the affirmation that we all need/want to be respected, heard, appreciated and and loved. And this needs to start with -from myself- and from that place the gifts will come.
    Blessings, Beth from breathelighter

I’ve experienced lots of miracle moments, when God put circumstances and events together in a way that could not have been done otherwise.

It was so appropriate to save the best for last: YES, we ARE loved, many times by people we will never see in the flesh. This is possible through the Love of God for us, His children.

    • 07/02/2012 8:20 pm

TY for adding this dimension to the 7th gift… Our love comes from all corners; seen and unseen… TY! 🙂

    • 07/02/2012 8:22 pm

  14. 07/02/2012 4:12 pm

I believe in this completely. I also believe that I go through things in life to share the wisdom I’ve gained with others. Maybe life experience rather than wisdom would be more accurate :). Thank you for sharing this ! I’ll reblog if you don’t mind.

    • 07/02/2012 8:37 pm

Yes wisdom and experience are shared all the time. We give, we get. TY! 🙂

  20. 08/02/2012 5:58 am

That was amazing how truly those 7 gifts have occurred. I’ve already experienced each one of them with at least, one strong memory. Thanks for such an interesting post! 🙂

  21. 08/02/2012 7:24 am

You’re so right. As I reviewed the seven gifts, I thought of an instance in my life when I received each one. Thank you Elizabeth. 🙂

  22. 08/02/2012 6:44 pm

Perfect. And as always, I love the Buddha quote. I like gift No. 5. That’s a special one…

  23. 09/02/2012 10:07 am

7 is known to be a famous magical number, always playing an important role in every beliefs and superstitions. This list is very uplifting! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  24. 10/02/2012 5:51 am

Once again, another very uplifting article. Thank you for the food for thought here. This is an article worthy of sincere reflection into each of our pasts.

  25. 10/02/2012 5:59 pm

“the awakening of grace” – I like that – it’s perfectly descriptive. I think if we come from the position that everyone’s struggling in some way even though they may not appear to be, we are more likely to treat others with grace

  26. 13/02/2012 4:06 am

Interesting concept, one I hadn’t thought of before. But I have to agree with Leigh since I’ve experienced most of the seven. It’s definitely a reminder to live life more observantly. Beautiful post, as usual, Elizabeth.
