Musings: The Beauty Of Nature…

30/01/2012

“I experience a period of frightening clarity in those moments when nature is so beautiful. I am no longer sure of myself, and the paintings appear as in a dream.” Vincent Van Gogh

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... A sunset in Knysna, South Africa

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... Sunset on Mars

What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen and why? Yesterday, I posted some pictures I took of the setting sun and it got me thinking about all the beautiful things we see in nature; the beauty in the world around us – sunset,  dawn, dusk, northern lights, the ocean, flora and fauna. I thought I’d share a few I found. Just pictures and accompanying quotes.

“It is the marriage of the soul with Nature that makes the intellect fruitful, and gives birth to imagination.” Henry David Thoreau

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... Dawn

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... Dusk

Dawn and dusk are magical times… We are drawn to their magic; some say they offer us the perfect balance of time for creative endeavors. What lies ahead?

“The only words that ever satisfied me as describing Nature are the terms used in fairy books, charm, spell, enchantment. They express the arbitrariness of the fact and its mystery.” G. K. Chesterton

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... Northern lights... aurora borealis

Musings: The Beauty In Nature... aurora borealis

Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are one of Nature’s exquisite gifts of color. The mystical, swirling, changing colors beckon us to stop and reflect on the ever changing seasons of life. On a side note, PostaDay2012/PostaWeek2012 are here. WooHoo! More below. 😉

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be.”  Anne Frank

Musings: The Beauty Of Nature... Flora

Musings: The Beauty Of Nature... The Atlantic Ocean at rest.

Plant life is so varied that I often wonder how botanists remember all those names… so much beauty, so much variety. Do you have a favorite flora? And what about the magnificence of the ocean?

“It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to. . . . The feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures.”  Vincent Van Gogh

Musings: The Beauty Of Nature... Fauna... Elk

Musings: The Beauty Of Nature... A snowflake

All forms of life are precious;  human life, animal life, plant life and even the life of things that remain unknown… If we destroy our planet, we destroy the beauty in nature. Ultimately, we destroy ourselves.

♥What are your thoughts? What do you love about nature? What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen and why? How does it make you feel? Do share! Thank you. 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from SoulPancake: What is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen and why?

Positive Motivation Tip: Nature offers us her gifts daily; we take, enjoy, use and share them. Sometimes, we must stop to praise and thank her.

I’m no ornithologist but I get a kick out of the birds I see in Lincolnshire. We are blessed with a wide variety of residents and migrators. I get a little frustrated with folk who are only interested in the rare visitors. I take time to watch the common starlings: their markings are quite magnificent.
    good post

great aurora borealis photos! 1000 years ago people were very frightened, because there were no science to explain the phenomena.
sometimes science gives more peace to the mind than superstition …

I really like the beauty of the ever changing sky. Even in the city, where you may only have a view that is a small swath; that patch will look different at any given moment.

Incredible photos! Love the sunset in South Africa especially.

Love the beauty of nature! The mountains, rivers, woods, wildlfe…it’s hard to choose a favorite but if I had to it would be the ocean.
( I think God have the aurora borealis to folks living near the North Pole to make up for the frigid cold! HA!)

    Wonderful photos!
Gosh how to choose the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen? My brand new babies when they were born!

  11. 31/01/2012 2:21 pm

Anne Frank and Thoreau had the right of it! I particularly love the sun bursting out about five minutes after a fierce summer thunderstorm, especially when it still raining a little! I also love a very, very cold winter morning with a very clear sky and some stars still glimmering in the west as the sunrise colors begin to show in the east!

Another great post from you – with amazing photos and splendid quotes. For me just being in touch with nature is beauty in itself. It doesn’t have to be Aurora Borealis or sunset, but just smelling, seeing, feeling, hearing nature is all it takes.

I agree with Van Gogh, “It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to.” You’ve show that very eloquently here, Elizabeth,

Beautiful photographs. Nature at it’s best. Nothing is more beatiful then the nature. And you really showed us “why”, through his post of yours. Great post.

Top of my list is my granddaughters’ smiles. Truly, for me. Sunsets and night skies humble me, and the view of the San Gabriel Mountains each morning is a touchstone that starts my day with a sense of reverence. Debra

I love the beauty of nature, especially the quiet moments watching the sun rise, or a lazy afternoon, canoeing on a river or lake.

  22. 01/02/2012 1:25 am

  25. 01/02/2012 5:49 am

What beautiful photos of nature! I too, find magic in dawn and dusk, so peaceful, like a blanket comes off and on the Earth as we change from night to day and back again.

And who would’ve ever thought to post a Martian sunset?!? That is amazing!!

  26. 01/02/2012 9:45 am

  29. 02/02/2012 6:15 am

Beautiful pictures! To answer your question, the world is so full of beauty that picking out one as the most beautiful is impossible. A herd of elk among the trees on the side of a mountain during a snowstorm (no pictures; I was trying to stay on the road at the time); a baby’s smile at something new; sunset over the Rockies; waves crashing on the beach at Ventura. How does one pick a single one?

  30. 02/02/2012 7:34 am

I so wish to see in front of me an aurora borealis! I think it’s one of the most beautiful mystery of nature! Wonderful post!

  31. 02/02/2012 9:48 am
