Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request…

20/01/2012

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” Confucius

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request… Grab a cuppa cappuccino & pull up a chair

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... Fruit plate, Yes! Spam, No!

Sometimes, we all wish life were simpler and that the usual minor annoyances and distractions would just vanish with the snap of a finger. I love today’s photo challenge – Simple – because it speaks to what most of us would love to do; simplify our lives. With that in mind, please read the rest below – A Simple Request – and enjoy the photos… 🙂 🙁 😉

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.” Charles Mingus

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... A New York Sunset...

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... I See You too...

A Simple Request: Dear fellow bloggers, It appears that as I furiously tried to play catch up on your blogs, my enthusiasm, inadvertently, made me a spam shark in the eyes of the WP spam police! 🙁 My comments on your blogs have probably fallen (read: been moved) into your spam box. I always check my spam box because, from time to time, I see some of your feedback in there too. Please check your spam boxes and retrieve comments from fellow bloggers. I’ve spent many hours commenting on and liking your blogs, and some of us might not be aware that this happens to all of us. TY! 🙂 Oy gevalt! I believe it was Piglet in Portugal that this spamification situation happened to once, so I’m confident the Happiness Engineers at WordPress will fix this poquito problema. I reckon it might be time to retire my excessive use of the words; Beautiful, Gorgeous, Stunning, Wonderful, Excellent, Lovely, I love this, Breathtaking, Perfect, and such pronouncements I make when I read your beautiful superb blogs. Sorry WP, but I’m not giving up the word Brilliant!

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive.” Eleanora Duse

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... Bees on a Sunflower

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... Perhaps a simple warning...

Naturally, I goggled the synonym for Beautiful and, via Thesaurus.com, the following showed up: admirable, alluring, angelic, appealing, beauteous, bewitching, charming, classy, comely, cute, dazzling, delicate, delightful, divine, elegant, enticing, excellent, exquisite, fair, fascinating, fine, foxy*, good-looking, gorgeous, graceful, grand, handsome, ideal, lovely, magnificent, marvelous, nice, pleasing, pretty, pulchritudinous, radiant, ravishing, refined, resplendent, shapely, sightly, splendid, statuesque, stunning, sublime, superb, symmetrical, taking, well-formed, wonderful. I’m not sure why foxy has an asterisk next to it; she must be hot! Moving forward, I will reach for one of these words or something that hasn’t been used ad nauseum! Forgive me if I trip up now and again, after all, your blogs are excellent. Oops! Simply Brilliant! 😉 More below.
Update: I’ve reached out to Akismet Support. More later…

“But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?” Albert Camus

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... A simple road trip to blog heaven...

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Simple Request... A simple a** sign. 😉

“It is always the simple things that change our lives. And these things never happen when you are looking for them to happen. Life will reveal answers at the pace life wishes to do so. You feel like running, but life is on a stroll. This is how God does things.” Donald Miller

I always thought the road to blog heaven was paved with not only memorable posts and exquisite photography, but also with brief comments that succinctly responded to a topic. The typical spam comments I get are usually long, meaningless diatribes on a topic other than the one at hand… If an example shows up by post time, I’ll add one. Anyhow, the topic today is Simple, so I’m going to take a deep breath, inhale and exhale, release all those gorgeous grand (isn’t that word from the roaring twenties!?) words I use, and prepare myself to revisit my commenting/liking of your blogs in a simpler fashion. As my home-girl Nancy would say… Aah . . . that’s better! And I feel better already! 😉

What are your thoughts? What Simple shots did you find? Was it easy/hard to find photos for your examples of Simple? Were you drawn to specific examples for the prompt? Do share? Thank you! 🙂 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: Weekly Photo Challenge: Simple

Positive Motivation Tip: There are simple solutions to most problems… For starters, you need a sense of humor. 😉

If I have to stop using the words beautiful and gorgeous in comments, I’d better navigate over to Thesaurus.com too. In the meantime, your photos are really pulchritudinous Elizabeth. Keep up the sense of humor!

    • 20/01/2012 9:34 pm

Thank you my dear blogger friend… One must now use only splendid words… Pulchritudinous is right up my alley. I don’t think your average, run of the mill spammer will be using that one. 😉

  2. 20/01/2012 10:14 pm

Oh my . . . I rarely check the Spam but learning about the problem(s), I guess it must be done 🙁
    Thanks! 🙂

    • 20/01/2012 10:56 pm

Please do! I always check my spam box because this does happen to other bloggers too. I found comments from several of my blog buddies in my spam box. I’ve notified WordPress and they are quite quick to fix things… Anyway, it’s been a splendorous day. 😉 Okay folks, check your spam boxes!

  3. 20/01/2012 10:19 pm

Then I better describe your photos as resplendently simple, Elizabeth, and keep my Thesaurus to hand!
By the way, I found a couple of your comments to me in my spam.

    • 20/01/2012 10:58 pm

Thank you my dear! I love the fearless ones! And your post was delightful! 😉

Another great entry for this week theme 🙂

  6. 20/01/2012 11:54 pm

simple and plain food for thought ;O)

    • 21/01/2012 12:05 am

Thank you Britta! Check your spam box as I believe I left you a comment yesterday. 🙁

  7. 20/01/2012 11:54 pm

Great shots. The simple thing make us peaceful and relax. 🙂

    • 21/01/2012 12:06 am

That is true… Makes for exquisite moments in life, right? 😉

  8. 21/01/2012 12:04 am

    IMPORTANT!
Hello everyone! I know this post has humor in it, but I am tackling an important topic. Please check your spam boxes regularly as legitimate comments do end up there. I have sent a note to both WordPress and Akismet support about my disappearing comments on your blogs. Those comments are in your spam box and you can retrieve them; unless you’ve already emptied your spam box. I check mine regularly because some of your comments have ended up there too. Since reading/liking/commenting takes a lot of time, I’d like you to know that I’ve visited many of your blog posts. Thank you! 🙂

  9. 21/01/2012 12:11 am

Your photographs are most efficacious 😉 oh…and your words too

    • 21/01/2012 12:15 am

You are a riot! Thank you for adding your sense of humor to a rather frustrating event. 🙂

  10. 21/01/2012 1:16 am

I am running over to my spam folder RIGHT NOW!!! Missing any of your wonderful (can I use that word?) comments is a major offense. Love the synonyms for the word “beautiful”. I know I use too much!

    • 21/01/2012 1:20 am

TY Walter! 😉 I believe “wonderful” is on the s***t list too! But use it here anyway. I have followed up with Akismet…. Didn’t we just go through a whole thing on CENSORSHIP a couple of days ago? Sheesh!

  11. 21/01/2012 2:00 am

Nice collection of simple yet meaningful photographs! I love that sunflower with the bee!

    • 21/01/2012 11:30 am

Thank you Nelson and I left a comment on your post too… You know where to find it. 😉

  12. 21/01/2012 4:23 am

Life is simple yet we make it complicated. That’s so true! I also tend to check my spam folder from time to time… and it’s so annoying when I see that I missed posts from my favourite blogs or comments!

    • 21/01/2012 11:32 am

It sure gets complicated when some act with an over-zealousness that is not needed. TY for digging me out of your box. 😉

  13. 21/01/2012 6:09 am

Thank you for that great, useful post. This is something I’ve never thought of. And your words are always so positive that I can leave the page happy and peaceful. 🙂

    • 21/01/2012 11:34 am

TY Bindu! I love reading your blog too. lad you understand. 🙂

  14. 21/01/2012 6:17 am

    humor is not simple,
humor has two levels of saying …
    the second is complicated 🙂

    • 21/01/2012 12:09 pm

Thank you for your cryptic comment. 😉 Please check your spam box as I’ve left you several comments. TY! 🙁

  15. 21/01/2012 6:24 am

Great Post! I have not seen your comments in the spam folder…I sometimes have comments in the spam folder that seem legitimate..but the commenters website is questionable. I delete them but I feel bad because maybe they were legitimate comments.

    • 21/01/2012 12:10 pm

Yes, there are spam comments for sure but periodically, legitimate comments – called Ham – get put in the spam box. I guess I’m now ham… Good grief! 🙁

  16. 21/01/2012 7:14 am

I try to check my Spam box at least once a day if not more! Whenever I notice stuff in there and I was wondering why all of a sudden certain bloggers would show up either there or in pending when I know they have commented before. Mystery solved! Thanks!

I loved your pics! They were foxy*! 😉

    • 21/01/2012 12:12 pm

😆 Yeah, I loved that foxy* one too and that Thesaurus singled it out with an asterisk made me wonder… TY for your feedback. 🙂

  17. 21/01/2012 7:55 am

Your photos are ravishing and foxy …hey! pegbur7 took my word! lol
Okay, starting again….your photos are ravishingly sublime in their simplicity! I really like how you related them all back to simple. Very nice!
This has been a great lesson, not only in “Simple”, but also in trying out new synonyms for the word Simple! Thanks for your warning about the Spam box. I just noticed the other day I have 64 in there. I had no idea they could be my blogger friends. 😉 Thanks for a great post!

    • 21/01/2012 12:33 pm

Oh Judy! LMAO! You are charming and classy! I’m glad to share this alert so we can all become aware that sometimes, not always, a few legitimate comments end up int spam box. TY! 😉

  18. 21/01/2012 8:17 am

Simplicity is a great goal to strive for. Of course, I love the cuppa! I didn’t know you were being spammed. And I did find a couple of your comments in my spam folder. I too, have been missing due to my mother’s grave illness and the placement of her feeding tube. I will try to return as much as possible during this difficult time.

    • 21/01/2012 12:35 pm

Hi Karen, you and your mom are in my prayers… I saw your post and had to respond. 🙁 TY for your diligence too and please know you are in my thoughts.

The internet is a dazzling world with endless ways to connect. It is also a world with endless frustrations when legitimate comments bya some glitch get marked as spam. I read Piglet’s link and hope they resolve your situation soon too. This post is simply brilliant! 😉

    • 21/01/2012 12:36 pm

You, my dear, are simply brilliant too! 😉 Yes, I’d like to see that glitch head south too. TY!

  20. 21/01/2012 8:42 am

So true that the tendency is to make the simple complicated! What’s wrong with simple? I so thoroughly enjoy your posts and photos.

    • 21/01/2012 12:37 pm

Simple is great! I’m with you on that one too. TY and I love your photography too. 😉

  21. 21/01/2012 9:05 am

The pictures are BEAUTIFUL! I didn’t realize about the spam. Thanks for sharing.

    • 21/01/2012 12:38 pm

Glad you do now… TY for your splendid comment. 😉

  22. 21/01/2012 9:31 am

Fabulous pictures, wonderful signage captures, wonderful celebration of the SIMPLE joys of nature. The “unattended children given expresso and a free puppy” is just TOO wonderful! Hooray! Simple pleasures are unbeatable.

    • 21/01/2012 12:39 pm

TY Granbee! I loved that sign the first time I saw it in a cafe in Massachusetts. It was just perfect too! 😉

  23. 21/01/2012 10:00 am

Thanks, Elizabeth, will check my SPAM folder as well. I haven’t in a while….
Great post, as usual. I had some difficulty find photos. I’d used several of the ones I thought fit the definition and looked for new ones. Found a few but settled for one, which I posted.

    • 21/01/2012 12:41 pm

TY Marcia! Simple was an interesting one to do as I had to keep considering that the shot not be too busy… I enjoyed it too. 🙂

  24. 21/01/2012 10:51 am

You did get trapped in my Spam Filter . . . but I let you out!

    Aah . . . that’s better! 😉

    • 21/01/2012 11:07 am

Thank you dear Nancy! Aah… I feel better too! You won’t believe how much I use that line lately. When I’m driving and a schmuck does something crazy, once I get away from them.. yep, I repeat that line… and you know what? It works! 😉

      • 21/01/2012 11:18 am

You got caught in mine too eof737…they must think you are suspicious looking 😉

      • 21/01/2012 11:29 am

Right Hellenjc! It’s a glitch of some sort and I’ve notified Akismet and WordPress. Given what happened with Piglet, it might take a few days. TY for un-spamming me… This situation is ridiculous really. I’ve had a blog for going on 4 years, and I barely have time to finish my comments on all my blog friends posts, let alone having any time for spamming people. The internet is awesome but glitches and erroneous spam flags stink! Thanks again! 🙁

  25. 21/01/2012 11:57 am

I check my spam all the time – I get some really funny spam sometimes.

    • 21/01/2012 12:43 pm

Same here! I check all the time and get some pretty amusing and some good stuff. TY! 🙂

  26. 21/01/2012 11:57 am

Thanks, I will check my spam box a little more often! In the meantime, what a grand and resplendent post! i always enjoy your pictures (although I now have to go look up what Triploid Bass are).

    • 21/01/2012 12:48 pm

TY and I appreciate you looking because I did leave you comments. This too shall pass… 😉 Love your choice of words from the list. Marvelous! Oh as for the triploid grass carp, I was focused on the white out word… 😆

  27. 21/01/2012 12:33 pm

I was drawn to the simple life for my photo. I especially like the first quote you included from Confucius.
By the way, I did find some of your comments in my spam.

  28. 21/01/2012 12:51 pm

TY Fergie for looking. I promise it will be resolved and, until then, I hope everyone will check because this is NOT a unique situation. I find others comments in mine too and what I read on the Akismet site doesn’t apply to this situation. Your photo was pulchritudinous! 🙂

  29. 21/01/2012 1:14 pm

Your kind comments on my blog posts came through the normal channels (not as spam) so hopefully they’ve resolved this. Love your photos for this week’s topic…especially the first two.

    • 21/01/2012 5:41 pm

TY Laura! Unfortunately the problem persists. I’ve contacted support and since it’s the weekend, they might be out. I hope it gets resolved and from what I read on Akismet, we have to check and unspam comments that were mistakenly flagged as spam too. TY 🙂

  30. 21/01/2012 3:24 pm

I love the unattended children sign!

  31. 21/01/2012 4:44 pm

TY Tilly! It is one of my favorites too! 🙂

  32. 21/01/2012 9:36 pm

Hi Elizabeth! i love all the photos specially the sunflower … Also, I want to thank you for your kind comments and for following my blog 🙂

    • 22/01/2012 2:21 am

TY too! The sentiments are mutual! I’m glad we have connected and I love your blog as well. 🙂

  33. 21/01/2012 11:02 pm

Guess where I found a comment from you? Yep, in that spam folder! You hadn’t even used the word beautiful.

I liked the sunflower, but as a mother I love the “unattended children” one! I’d have FOUR puppies!!! 😆

We try to keep life simple around here as much as we can. That fruit salad I could dive on to right now – we are stifling hot over here again.

    • 22/01/2012 2:23 am

Yep! I knew it when my comment vanished into thin air like a magic act! TY for your comment and the sign is a favorite too. I could use that fruit plate too. 😉

  34. 22/01/2012 1:09 am

No you don’t go into my spam i’m happy to say!
Love your photos, love your site!

    • 22/01/2012 2:24 am

TY Gilly! I’m glad it is fine on your blog… Love your blog too! 🙂

  35. 22/01/2012 5:23 am

Interesting collection for the topic, Eliz. Love the quote by Eleanora Duse too. Need to check that spam today.

    • 24/01/2012 9:21 am

TY PP and hope you are feeling better… The quote by Eleanora is excellent. 🙂

  36. 22/01/2012 10:09 am

Well, you’re not in my spam folder too, now that’s good ay! 🙂
Wonderful photos and I like that sign. I am sure I love that fruit salad of yours! Great post 🙂

    • 24/01/2012 9:22 am

Glad to read that Gracie… I suspect a few might have dashed by when we weren’t looking… TY! 😉

  39. 23/01/2012 2:52 pm

    With you on the coffee!
Thank you for your comment which I did find you know where and I hope it pleases you to know it looked reassuringly out of place. Having said that, I do entertain a soft spot for some of the spam.
    Happy simple to you!

    • 24/01/2012 9:25 am

TY for your humor Patti! Thankfully it has been resolved. It was a good lesson though… and now I have few new words to use. 😉

  40. 24/01/2012 7:48 am

All of these are perfect. I, especially, like the one with the sign that’s says children will be given a puppy and expresso. It is hilarious.
