Musings: On Change and Uncertainty…

14/01/2012

Faith means living with uncertainty; feeling your way through life, letting your heart guide you like a lantern in the dark.” Dan Millman

Musings: On Change and Uncertainty...

“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.” William Pollard

Are you ready for change? How do you handle major change in your life? According to Terah Kathryn Collins, a Feng Shui master, on “the Chinese lunar calendar, the Water Dragon arrives on January 23rd bringing the Feng Shui principle “Everything is always changing” into full play.” Change happens to all of us and resisting it only creates more friction in our lives. Now that my kids have flown the coop, we are in the middle of huge changes and I need to focus on shifting both my space and my thinking… It seems like only yesterday when they were small and dependent on us for everything. Now we are consulted on many things, but they have their lives ahead of them and for that we are grateful. Of course, as many of us parents know, we are the ones who sometimes have a harder time making the transition from a hectic home to an empty nest.  What helped you? More below. 😉

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Musings: On Change and Uncertainty...

“As you begin changing your thinking, start immediately to change your behavior. Begin to act the part of the person you would like to become. Take action on your behavior. Too many people want to feel, then take action. This never works.” John Maxwell

Life is uncertain and I just had a definitive lesson on that fact on this post… I had just completed the paragraph that should have appeared here and when I hit my save button, I got disconnected from the internet and lost the entire paragraph… (so this is new). I wish WP would include an autosave feature on our blogs that saves as we write… Anyway, with all change comes a measure of uncertainty; usually accompanied with the possibility for tremendous growth. I have found that the growing pains, the struggles and challenges we encounter as we shift directions, not only test our métier, but give us an opportunity to turn within, to turn to our belief system, our faith, God, the universe, for guidance and answers.

Uncertain times also force us to learn to trust our instincts and inner promptings more. I remember visualizing my new home when I moved to Los Angeles and trusting that it would manifest and it did. So, as we un-clutter our space, pack away/give away things that no longer serve us, prepare for the next step in our lives, I am trusting that the next phase would be fortuitous. Having moved across continents a number of times in my life, I find that I am experiencing the same pregnant, expectant sensations again. And that is not a bad thing. ♥What are your thoughts? Are you ready for change? Do you have major plans to face? When do you know it is time to focus and move forward? Do share! ♥Happy ♥New ♥Year ♥To ♥You! 🙂 Thank you. 😉

*Please bear with me as I catch up on your blogs and commenting… Thank you all for your patience! :-)*   Thank you Artboy68 for the portrait drawing! I will thank you properly in tomorrow’s post. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from SoulPancake: A new year is just around the corner, are you making any changes in you life this coming year?

Positive Motivation Tip: Change happens to all of us; resisting doesn’t make the process easier. Go with the flow…

Does this mean no more snow for you? I am happy that you have started a new phase of your life. Just goes to show we are forever moving forward. 🙂

Actually, I realized that my Los Angeles comment might give the wrong impression. I lived there a few years ago… 🙂 Snow is still very much a part of my life. We will be moving though and where remains uncertain… I’m trusting in God’s Grace. TY Robin! 🙂

Thank you for your feedback… It rarely happens but is very frustrating when it does. The piece that was lost was so beautiful and flowed so nicely… After it disappeared, I couldn’t remember all of it which was interesting… That is what change does, sweeps aside one thing for the other… I accept. TY! 🙂

you have no idea how important this post is to me. At 60 I have the treat of reduncancy over my head (for the 3rd year running!) and financially I need to work. I have a plan B this time which I feel quite excited about so I am ready to embrace change. Thank you.

Hi Ronnie, I’m glad this post spoke to you too… Redundancy; yes that old devil, I know it well. Best wishes on Plan B… something all of us should have. Change, they say, is good. TY! 🙂

There was a huge, hugely unsettling change at work two weeks ago. The first few days were miserable, but I tried looking at it as a lesson (or aggregate of lessons) on change. It’s still uncomfortable, but I can see good in it, too. I’ve gotten settled into a routine that doesn’t work for me, and this is my prompt to push myself out of it!

I appreciate your words of wisdom this morning. The last three years have brought some life-rocking changes to my life — somedays my head still spins. I don’t know if I’m ready to embrace change, but I recognize her at the door and say “hi”…

Change is inevitable. We must let go of the past to make room for TODAY! Good luck with your move.

Change happens when you least expect it. Life now is completely different than what I had ever expected, dreamed or planned. Adapt and make the best of what you can with things that you cannot control.

WP does have an autosave feature, not sure at what intervals it saves. You must have been caught in the middle. That’s happened to me too so I started doing my posts in Word then copying/pasting in WP.
Change is the order of the day round this way. Still learning how to deal and not let myself get too bent out of shape about it.
Thanks for sharing this post, Elizabeth. “And the times, they are a-changing.”

My life has been one of constant change for the past few years, and looks to continue to be so. But, I finally have come to a place where that is not terrifying. I am focusing on enjoying the journey rather than trying to pinpoint the destination.

  12. 15/01/2012 4:44 pm

My husband and I have been empty-nesters for some time now. Our daughter left home at 16 to prepare for a career in ballet. Now 25, she has been dancing professionally ever since. I spent 2 1/2 years with her in another state as she began her training. My husband remained at home to earn our living. I was allowed time to make the transition. When I left our daughter at almost 19 years of age, I was ready to leave and she was ready to assume control of her life. Both of us still spent the following several years making the emotional readjustment.

Today we are delighted that our daughter has evolved happily into her own person; loving the life she’s made for herself. I am just as thrilled to regain myself, as a person first, with wife and mother following a close second. The path was not easy for our family, but the change has been well worth the journey…

hugs for the mention of my post on “quality of life”…hugmamma. 🙂

Change can be frightening but with change comes growth. We discover what we are made of and what we are able to accomplish when challenged. Thanks for a great post. Miriam

Change happens to all of us at some point and time. You are a strong woman and a survivor. You will be fine.

I’ve said many times the only constant in life is change. That doesn’t make it any easier but helps to soften the blows a bit. We’re going through a lot of change this year as well. When I think of it I just get tired. Have to work on amping up my energy.
    Stay well and carry on!

Change sometimes is welcome…sometimes not…guess it keeps life interesting though if too much happens at once, I then look forward to life returning to being a bit “boring”! Thank-you for your visit and “like” on my post…

  17. 16/01/2012 10:18 pm

Hi. I have used the word “Transformation” to describe what this year is about for me. I began with letting go of that which serves me no longer and thought about what kind of change I’d like to implement as the thought always comes first.

Now my behaviour is beginning to implement those thoughts of change and are happening right now. I know that more will follow; after all this is a year of transformation. So things are definitely moving now and I can’t wait to see what else I bring into my life. A very exciting year ahead for me 🙂

  18. 17/01/2012 4:01 am

I click save after every paragraph ( a bitter lesson learned). It is automatic now.

  19. 17/01/2012 5:34 am

Very pertinent post as we are looking for a house now. Having made three major moves (across state lines each time) in the past year, and many moves in the years prior, I know the angst and the anticipation. My best to you in the days ahead, and may the adventure of it all outweight the anxiety of not knowing.

  20. 17/01/2012 7:44 am

I love change. I just wish it was easier to embrace. I’m working on that, though.

  21. 26/01/2012 5:27 pm

I love change… But as this year (with my pending, and now twice-postponed retirement) is truly a year of change for my husband and I, we are treading carefully, one day at a time! My husband actually does not like change. But once he has made up his mind, he will embrace it…
