On Music: The Shorthand of Emotion…

13/01/2012

“Music fills the infinite between two souls. This has been muffled by the mist of our daily habits.” Rabindranath Tagore

On Music: The Shorthand of Emotion... Right? Concha Buika.

Today is Friday, the 13th, and I know some folk who believe in all that superstitious stuff about the number 13 will be under covers waiting for a ghoul to show up. Have no fears my darlings, music can make even a ghost dance… Since I’m working on being brief on this blog, I know how busy y’all are, I’ll share a few tunes to enjoy this Friday, the 13th weekend…. and no, I won’t be adding any ghoulish songs; those will come on Valentine’s Day! 😆 Oy gevalt! Anyhow, the first song that popped in my head when I noticed today’s date was – Oh Happy Day!( I’ve given us two versions) and, Mary J Blige’s Mr Wrong, then Bruno Mars “It Will Rain.” Plus, check out homegirl Concha Buika.

It makes sense that on a day like this one, we should find suitable music that fits perfectly with Tolstoy’s quote above… Music covers a lot of or perhaps a lot more than verbiage, and saves us from running off the deep end with words which, at the end of the day, can get lost in translation. Another song that works well for Friday, the 13th is Ben E King‘s song Supernatural Thing. Throw in Pitbull’s International Love, then if you’re feeling fly, try Like A G6, Drake, and a few others which you’ll have to come back for… Enjoy the weekend! More Below. 😉

I don’t know what plans you have for the weekend wherever you are out there in the blogosphere… my dear.  Me? I’ll be relaxing with the family, taking a zumba class, a long walk, enjoying music, and doing some writing. Oh yeah, Jessie, Ludovico, The Happy Day choir, and a few more should keep us merry. I have some movies lined up and I might catch Man on a Mission: Richard Garriott‘s Road to the Stars because anyone who pays $30 million to ride a spaceship had better have a good reason other than the ghouls made me do it. Te he! 😉

Jessie J – Domino (VEVO Presents: Jessie J, Live in London)

Ludovico Einaudi –   Due Tramonti  Two Sunsets

Bishop Walter Hawkins and Gospel Legends – Oh Happy Day

If you’re loving these sounds, check out VH1’s selections for the top twenty songs of January 2012 (?) voting poll… Enjoy! What are your thoughts? Does Friday the 13th bother you? When music calls you tonight? What memories flash back when you listen to the songs I shared? Do share! Thank you. 😉

And I didn’t even think about Friday the 13th today…but looking back on it..there were A LOT of very unusual blog creating complications for me today…strangely so…hmmm??? …back I go to “Two Sunsets” to soothe those frustrations away.. : )

What an excellent post Liz. I too was in a musical mood today. Exploring old haunts on Youtube and posting a favorite from 2009. Check it out. Jack deJohnette’s Peace Time. I am sure you will like it. Very meditative.

Same and the G6 song is a great dance song and quite catchy.. It keeps playing in my head; especially the refrain. TY! 🙂

  9. 14/01/2012 11:07 am

    Wonderful music! Thank you.

  10. 14/01/2012 1:39 pm

Music is the essence of life. And does make Friday the 13th go away – which I only discovered the day after anyway. Thanks for all the music, a lot I have to check more thoroughly.

    • 15/01/2012 2:01 am

Welcome back and thank you for stopping by… That Cuba trip is keeping me up… a dream trip if one can go. TY! 🙂

  11. 14/01/2012 1:45 pm

I didn’t realize it was “Friday the 13th” until after. To me, it’s just another day and I’m not bothered by the superstitious aspect of it.

    • 15/01/2012 2:02 am

Yes, 😉 it is another day though we do try to be cautious anyway… TY!

  12. 14/01/2012 5:41 pm

I love Friday the 13th! But yesterday was a stressful day. Today . . . much better!

    • 15/01/2012 2:12 am

Yes, it was stressful here too… With a touch of it today too. TY! 🙂

  13. 14/01/2012 5:47 pm

I need music like I need air, food and water!. Love, love, love Aretha. I didn’t know about Concha Buika. Thanks!

    • 15/01/2012 2:13 am

I just found Concha through my kids and she is hot of late… She has a unique range… TY! 🙂

  14. 14/01/2012 9:02 pm

I enjoyed a trip into Hollywood and musical theater! I love music and do believe there is a soundtrack to accompany any mood! And with all the electronic devices we carry, there is never a need to be without it, is there? Delightful post! Debra

    • 15/01/2012 2:14 am

Sometimes I wonder if it is too much of a good thing, no? 😆 TY!

  15. 14/01/2012 10:25 pm

Lovely choices. Music is both the shorthand of emotion and the stirrer of emotions in the listener (or dancer).

    • 15/01/2012 2:16 am

Well said… How is your music life going? TY! 🙂

  16. 14/01/2012 10:31 pm

Love the music choices! And the mix of music! By the way, Friday the 13th, particularly in January, is one of my favorite days. It’s my son’s birthday, after all!

    • 15/01/2012 2:17 am

Well, Happy Birthday to your son! 🙂 It is a special day in your home and a fortunate one too… TY! 😉

  17. 15/01/2012 3:39 pm

You’re gonna have me dancing for the rest of the day! woo woo woo!

  18. 15/01/2012 3:54 pm

    Top 20 of 2012 already?
This is a fabulous way of meeting Friday, 13th – with music. It’s always been a non-event for me, I note the date but never focus on it. Know someone who was born on Fri 13th and always bemoaned that fact. Everything negative that happened he’d attribute it to being born on that day. Whew, was a pill to be around!

  19. 15/01/2012 6:08 pm

I always love it when you share music selections with us. There are some great tunes here. Thanks, Miriam
