Every time I take a nature walk, I look around and see so many beautiful trees looking back at me. They stand there in all their majesty, beckoning me to come closer, to pay attention to their silent dignity and to honor their resiliency. I see so many that I felt this post should be a sort of homage to the trees that welcome me on my walks around the neighborhood.

I seem to have a rapport with a particular tree. Every time I walk by it, the sun shines on it in an unusual way… But today when I went to capture it, the sun disappeared and all that was left was the tree, me… and the beauty of nature around the beautiful tree…I will go back another day, at sunset and see if the tree will let me capture and share what ethereal beauty it has shown me… Do we all see something in trees? Sometimes, what I see are shrubs, standing bold and tall, keening to be trees. And then there are decorated trees; city trees made to whore their wares during the holidays or perhaps decorated to please us … as if nature’s natural jewels aren’t enough. They are pretty too but I wonder how they feel. What would they say if they could speak? “Look at me, all blinged and tricked out… See how gloriously I shine. These lights are hot, and any day soon, my number will be up. Do you still love me?” Yes, we do. Do we ever feel the call of nature? Do we ever stop to see the beauty around us? If we paused for a moment, and looked around us, we might hear the call and see what secret beckons us in the trees.

I love trees, too. I see their branches like arms, waving to say hello to me and welcoming me to their presence , opening to offer hugs and comfort…I truly love trees.

I agree and I truly believe that they have spirits living in them too. The huge 100+ year old trees in front of my home are very protective of us and I thank them for their shade and shelter… TY 🙂
Oh I do love trees! One of the most difficult things we’ve recently experienced was the terrible hurricane-like winds that swept through Pasadena and uprooted hundreds (maybe thousands) of huge and beautiful trees. I’m sure for some homeowners the loss is devastating! We feel that the large 100 year old oak in our backyard is truly mystical. Lovely post, Elizabeth. Debra
Yes, and we had our share of them here when we had the storms…. It was so sad; the death and debris. Yes, I feel our trees are mystical too. TY! 🙂
You may have heard that in 2011 Texas lost an estimated one-tenth of its trees to drought and wildfires. That aside, you may be interested to learn that the word tree is related to the word true: to be true to something is to remain as steadfast as a tree.

It was one of the things I loved so much about our night away recently – the trees.
To me, trees mean strength, oxygen, peace and longevity. I could lay under the shade of a tree for a long time – especially if it were within sight of the waves on a beach!
I agree and didn’t go much into the meaning of trees because I know we all have answers in our hearts on what they mean to us. I love what you shared… TY! 🙂

Yes to the first two questions! In fact, the beauty of nature is the reason i started my blog; “what i see” is typically the subject of every post there. A few days ago, I too, was moved to write about the trees in my yard, and Arbor Day, which we celebrate here in Florida on Jan 20. I hope it’s not bad form, to include the link to it:

Majestic…strong…resilient…beautiful. If only trees could talk. Can you imagine some of the stories they could tell, especially the larger, older trees? With older trees, I often wonder “what have you seen; what have you been through?”

I so love trees. My fav is the Weeping Willow. For some reason I feel a kinship with her. Here in the forest they cut down many, many trees in order to maintain balance in the forest. I understand why they do it but I hate it. Sometimes I feel like they are crying out to me as they are falling. It killed me to watch Mr. M cut our Christmas Tree down this year. Weird huh?
WoW! Did you notice I had a weeping willow in my post…? It is the 2nd shot from the top…with much of its foliage shed for the winter. I think they look mournful yet beautiful… TY! 🙂

Wow, the earth would be missing a lot without trees. They add so much beauty to our world with their scents and fruits, nuts and seeds. Most people think that during winter the trees are dead but they are actually at their strongest, getting ready to burst in all their beauty when the Spring comes. Thank you for your post and photos, I really enjoyed viewing.
