Musings: Merry Christmas Wishes…

25/12/2011

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” Calvin Coolidge

Musings: Merry Christmas Wishes... Peace & Goodwill

The Christmas Song – (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) with Nat King Cole

How did you spend your Christmas day? By the time you read this, most of our Christmas celebrations would have been completed and all the merriment filed away for another year. I hope you got what you wished for and that all your heartfelt dreams for this special day came to pass. My wish is that we continue to appreciate the birth of Christ and the love of our family and friends… World peace for all too. That would suffice. What’s the best holiday gift you’ve ever received?  For me? I’d say the gift of life and sharing a Christmas meal and time with my family. I’ve added lyrics to the favorite carol you see above and also a video and lyrics to Have Yourself A Merry Christmas below. More below. 😉
The Christmas Song – (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way;
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh.
And every mother’s child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
A very Merry Christmas to you

“I have always thought of Christmas as a good time; a kind, forgiving, generous, pleasant time; a time when men and women seem to open their hearts freely, and so I say, God bless Christmas!” Charles Dickens

Musings: Merry Christmas Wishes... You Got It Right on those wishes... 😉

Frank SinatraHave Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

This Christmas day was simple and sweet. My children are home from college for the holidays, and we shared a lovely meal that included the traditional British Christmas Pudding with a choice of custard or Devon cream. We went to the movies and saw The Adventures of TinTin which was quite engaging and had many terrific scenes in it; especially on how to stay committed to our goals and dreams. My wish for them and for all of us is that we follow our hearts dreams and push  through those barriers when they come up. I love my family; their humor, thoughtfulness and zest for life and I admire same in all of you. Stay inspired!

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Music composed by Hugh Martin, lyrics by Ralph Blane
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.

What are your thoughts? How did you spend your Christmas day? What type of things did you expect and receive? What would you wish for next year? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Plinky & another WP Plinky: What’s the best holiday gift you’ve ever received? Name something you appreciate about each of your immediate family members.

Positive Motivation Tip: Keep the memories and wishes of this Christmas day close to your heart… Merry Xmas!

Sounds like you had a lovely day with your family, Elizabeth. Being with family’s the best medicine!
It’s interesting being here in this place because it holds so many Christmas memories. It’s hard not to think back and sometimes, difficult to compete with the memories.

Thank God for family. I can imagine your fond memories… The Matzo ball soup worked wonders on that nasty cold. Be blessed! 🙂

Those homemade remedies always seem to work better than the OTC stuff. Glad to hear you’re better.

PS: I’ve never liked that traditional Christmas pudding, but love Christmas Cake – weird, I guess.

Yours sounds heavenly too! TY for checking in and for your patience… I’m pushing through the cold and getting to as many blogs as feasible. Blessings! 🙂

I just loved it when my children would come home from college at the holidays. I can hear that you had a lovely day. I finally got my taste of fruitcake…all was well 🙂 And my parents, children and grandchildren…four generations all together. For each year that I can say that, I’m a most grateful person. All the work and effort of Christmas preparation is to share the joy with my family. Blessings to you now, Elizabeth, for a healthy new year. Debra

I have to say, the Frank Sinatra version is the worst I’ve ever heard.

😆 You are a riot Tilly! Which version do you like? 😉

    Happy holidays!

  11. 27/12/2011 4:44 am

So very true my friend. Christmas is a state of mind, even a state of heart. We can choose to feel like it’s Christmas everyday, to feel and give love, to be generous, to be kind and merciful, to forgive, to be a light for others , to love more, to celebrate life to the fullest. The joy of the season doesn’t have to end, we can all carry it with us anytime, anywhere and with anyone.
Happy New Year. May blessings of love , joy and peace be with you and your family for always…

The holidays can be a terrible time for people if they are fighting with their family. It can also be a sublime time if there is bond of love that holds the unit together. I’m happy for you and that you enjoyed family time for this holiday.
