Musings: Would You Like To Dance…?

21/12/2011

“Go out in the world and work like money doesn’t matter; Sing as if no one is listening; Love as if you have never been hurt; and Dance as if no one is watching…” Anon

Musings: Would You Like To Dance...? Join us... and other dance lovers.

Dj Mam’s feat Doukali & Soldat Jahman – Hella Decalé

I love dance. I love dance combined with superb music that makes you get up and go for it. I love when dance is also part of an exercise routine. Since I jumped into Zumba, feet first, I haven’t looked back. The song above is my favorite and on my top ten list. We dance to it at a pretty fast, high impact pace in my class and I love the rhythm of this French/Arabic Hella Decalé song.  I don’t know what the full lyrics are or what the song means completely, but it is a blast.  Get up and join me… c’est pas compliqué il suffit d’accelerer, c’est pas compliqué c’est le hella decalé! Come, let’s dance!

Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is no mere translation or abstraction from life; it is life itself.” Havelock Ellis

Musings: Would You Like To Dance...? Janelle's in the house...

Janelle Monae: “Many Moons” Official Short Film

Janelle is an amazing performer/dancer and I could watch her perform any day, all day long.  She has a unique way of moving her body, and her music will make you want to dance along with her too.  What I love about dance music is that we can enjoy it at any age. There is no reason to shy away from a chance to move the body, it is vital for our health and mind to stay active,  and we can choose our songs too.  More below… 😉

“It’s the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance. It is the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance. It is the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give. And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live.” Bette Midler

Musings: Would You Like To Dance...? Never too late to move...

Dj Mam’s Feat Soldat Jahman & Luis Guisao – Zumba He Zumba Ha

The wonderful thing about dance as a form of exercise is that it’s like  playtime when you take a dance class; time flies as you dance away and it feels like  a fun time spent at a high energy party. There isn’t the nasty pain that is typical with certain types of exercise, and the effect on the abs/abdomen is fantastic; especially with Zumba. This is another song by the same group and if I could perform with them, and with Janelle, that would awesome. As for an instrument, the drums would do… Why not?

“On with the dance! Let joy be unconfined” Lord Byron

Musings: Would You Like To Dance...? The floor is open to any form you choose. 😉

Chorégraphie – Zina Morena – Dj Mam’s Feat Luis Guisao & Doukali

I love dancing to all kinds of music and honestly, it doesn’t matter what form of dance you choose as long as you get up and move… 😉 By the way, another exercise form I love is spinning.  Spinning is a form of high intensity, indoor cycling that is set to high energy music. There is dance in there too. In my Spin class, the instructor plays music that makes you move and takes you to a place where your adrenalin is pumping and your energy level is so high, it is exhilarating. I feel the same way when I dance too and I can’t imagine life without music and dance…. So what’s stopping you?  Would You Like To Dance…?  What are your thoughts? Would you like to dance with me? What type of music gets you on your feet? When was the last time you danced with sheer joy and abandon? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Plinky: Name a musical artist or group that you’d enjoy performing with. Any specific song you’d want to play? Would you sing or play an instrument?

Positive Motivation Tip: Dance and Music are two doorways to our creative self… We can improve our physical and mental fitness even as we enjoy them.

After almost 50 years, my husband and I still love to dance in the old American Bandstand style to the songs from the 60’s…but we also enjoy all kinds of music.
Thanks, Eliz, for all the photos and music clips.
Have a beautiful Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

      Hey Viv,
You are not alone on that note. I Love music from that era too and always find ways to include it in my listening/dancing repertoire. TY! 😉
      Happy Holidays! 🙂

I love to dance! About five years ago my husband and I signed up for Arthur Murray dance lessons. I had always wanted to really understand the steps to ballroom dancing. What fun we had! Thanks for the great music clips! This was a delightful way to end my day. 🙂 Debra

TY too Debra! I’ve always wondered about ballroom dancing too but have not gotten my feet wet in that method… one day! 😉
      Happy Holidays! 🙂

Me too! I’d love to try one day, but have never got around to it either!

I used to dance inside my room to burn calories. After reading this , perhaps I need to bring my wife and join a dance exercise program. Sounds like fun and helps keep us healthy. So, yes to dance and yes to a better life. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

    • 24/12/2011 12:42 am

You’ll have a great time. Promise. Funny about the comment on dancing in your room; I still do… Old habits die hard. 😉
      Happy Holidays! 🙂

    Dancing – always my nemesis!

    • 24/12/2011 12:02 am

My nemesis too… I have the scars to prove it. 😆
      Happy Holidays! 🙂

TY for the song/video! I do love music and YouTube is one of the best internet gifts to all of us! TY! Happy Holidays! 🙂

  9. 22/12/2011 6:06 am

I love to see people dancing 🙂 but too bad, I cannot dance 😀
You might know the dance competition on TV, So You Think You Can Dance. I love that show 🙂

    • 23/12/2011 11:49 pm

I love that show too and it amazes me some of the moves that the competitors make… I bet you could break a move or two. 😉 I love pure dance without too much gymnastics included. Oops, I hope no one gets upset by this but I’m being honest… Happy Holidays! 🙂

I don’t do Zumba, but I can hear how you could be moved to shake a “tail feather”. My church uses the arts as a means of sharing and expressing faith. There are many artists in the congregation and music and dance are a big part of our Sunday celebrations.

    • 23/12/2011 11:44 pm

Sounds terrific! When I lived in Brooklyn, Brooklyn Tabernacle was around the corner from me and I attended services there every Sunday. This was before they moved to their new and larger home. I miss Brooklyn. TY! Happy Holidays! 🙂

  11. 22/12/2011 8:28 am

    i love dancing…right now it’s my form of exercise…

    • 23/12/2011 11:40 pm

Mine too! Do you have a favorite song you dance to? I love Hella Decale and a bunch of others in my zumba class. Happy Holidays! 🙂

  12. 22/12/2011 8:50 am

I used to teach Aerobic Dance in the ’80’s. I was in the best shape of my life, which would be quite the opposite of my shape today. ;-/
I may find a class to join come Jan. when everyone and their mother will be crowding every gym.
    Did that sound cynical?

    • 23/12/2011 11:38 pm

OMG! What a riot. I taught dance exercise classes too back in the 1980s. Those were the days when we could do all that and more… Party all night too. Lately, I’ve added more workouts to my routine, zumba and spin, it is harder and I really feel it, but I feel so much better afterwards. TY! Happy Holidays! 🙂

  13. 22/12/2011 1:52 pm

Yes, I love to dance too! Dapper G and I took jitterbug and waltz lessons–it was quite fun. Hey, I also do a Zumba number to Hella Decalé. It’s one of my favorites!!

    • 23/12/2011 11:16 pm

Now great minds do think alike… I love that song -Hella Decalé- and I keep visualizing myself making a Youtube video of me dancing to it… 😆 TY!
      Happy Holidays! 🙂

  14. 22/12/2011 7:53 pm

I love to dance! I’m teaching my two-year-old grandson to dance. It keeps him busy for a while and wears him out.
Nice post! I love Bette Midler’s quote.

    • 23/12/2011 11:14 pm

Oh that is so sweet to teach your grandson to dance… and you wear him out. 😆 TY. I love Bette too. A few years ago, I bumped into her in the ladies room at a NYC theater. I said, “Hello! Now you look very familiar… like Bette. Are you related?” She was not amused! We chatted a bit more and she moved on. 🙂
      Happy Holidays!

  15. 22/12/2011 9:28 pm

I LOVE dance…although I kind of resemble an uncoordinated monkey, but nevermind that:) I have always wanted to try Zumba? People love it and think it’s awesome…maybe a new years give it a shot note. Hope you have a great holiday season and that 2012 is amazing for you! Full of dance, love, light and inspiration that you give to so many.

    • 23/12/2011 10:40 pm

Happy Holidays to you and yours too Sharon. Give Zumba a shot in the new year. You can always pace yourself. TY! 🙂

  16. 23/12/2011 6:15 am

    I love dancing . . . and agree with Lord Byron! 😀

    • 23/12/2011 10:39 pm

Yes! You and me both… I love dance and Zumba has taken it to another level in the exercise realm. 🙂

  17. 24/12/2011 8:53 am

there’s a feeling I get with dancing like nothing else. I used to own a dance studio mostly so I could envelop myself in the music and motion, but since I sold it, I dance only in the privacy of my bedroom. In my next life, I’d like to be a pro.

  18. 24/12/2011 9:16 am

I like Zumba, but I always feel like such a klutz in that class. Hard to learn the dance steps. Spinning, however is my favorite. I love when the instructor selects just the right music for the moves.

  19. 26/12/2011 7:40 pm

Love to dance, it really lifts the spirit. Doesn’t matter what kind of music, just dance!
