Inspiration: How Do You Relax?

12/12/2011

“Don’t seek, don’t search, don’t ask, don’t knock, don’t demand – relax. If you relax, it comes. If you relax, it is there. If you relax, you start vibrating with it.” Osho

Inspiration: How Do You Relax? Relaxation techniques work…

We’ve had a long and challenging day. Our muscles are taut, our mind is stressed, and we desperately need to unwind… How do you relax? What props/tools help you achieve a state of relaxation?  When we surrender our expectations, our worries, our fears to the universe, we experience true relaxation; however, we must go within… Our lives are busy enough and the last thing anyone needs is to continue the mental chatter, the inner turmoil at home.  Interspersed throughout this post are relaxation tips we can use. We can start to unwind with a soothing, warm bath and relaxing music. Or we can try massage, meditation, yoga postures or even a contemplative walk… What do you typically do?

The Most Relaxing Music Ever! Slow Down – by Paul Collier

When we enter the realm of relaxation, creativity and clarity meet us there.  Music like Paul Collier’s ‘Slow Down‘ above can help. Unwinding with a good book or even drinking a cup of tea can start us on our journey to relaxation. Another merit of relaxation is that it can help us with our problem-solving skills. William S. Burroughs explains it well when he says, “Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.”  So RELAX!

“Calm in quietude is not real calm. When you can be calm in the midst of activity, this is the true state of nature. Happiness in comfort is not real happiness. When you can be happy in the midst of hardship, then you see the true potential of the mind.” Huanchu Daoren  (Hong Zicheng)

Inspiration: How Do You Relax? Look to nature and calming sounds…

Most of us find calm and comfort in nature; especially around water. When we are near bodies of active, moving water, we feel both the cleansing powers and the soothing energy of the water. Our intuitive nature is keenly aware of this watery gift, perhaps something to do with our body memory of being cocooned in the womb, and that is why many of us take bubble baths or a shower to help us relax.

Awareness of our body memory might also explain our instinctive need to cocoon ourselves by dimming the lights in a room, changing into comfy clothes, and cuddling up in bed or on our sofa with a toddy, a glass of wine or a cup of tea. The fluids we imbibe, the bath water, water falls or ocean breeze we enjoy, help us reach that place of calm inside. More below. 😉

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.” Etty Hillesum

Inspiration: How Do You Relax? It’s breathtaking but don’t forget to Breathe!

Whether you choose to blog, cook a nice meal, take a nap, do some exercise like yoga, play a favorite musical instrument or do some house spring cleaning, one thing we must all do to aid our relaxation is to BREATHE. Taking a few deep breaths, with pauses in between can be the most rejuvenating gift we offer our bodies when under stress… Don’t forget to breathe; no matter how breathtaking the scenery, we all need oxygen for our lungs and brains… Relax.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood – Relax (Don’t Do It) 😉

For inner peace, we reach again and again for the calming effects of water and for soft, lilting music that remind us of the fluid, cool and quiet rhythms we find near water. Halpern’s and perhaps Frankie’s music transports us from the stress and chaos, to a place of blissful rest.

When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.” Francois de La Rochefoucauld

Inspiration: How Do You Relax? You’ve earned it… Go on, chill out.

Some of us feel guilty about sitting down and doing nothing, or doing something “mindless.” Why? We act as if the Angel of Incomplete Tasks will come and take us away. Relaxation is not only necessary but healthy. So go watch a soothing movie, fun TV, your favorite show or do some window shopping online… Chill out, you’ve earned it.  What are your thoughts? How do you relax? What props/tools help you achieve a state of relaxation? Do you make time to unwind and relax at the end of your day? If not, why not? Do you think it would make a difference? Do share! Thank you. 😉

The best way for I know how to relax is to simply be quiet in a quiet space and breathe. So soothing and energizing. Thank you for a great post Eliz!

Thank you so much for the relaxing music this morning. I find that in the evenings, my mind is all relaxed but my body is still twitchy. An herb that works well for relaxing muscles is Valerian, but be warned, it is some stinky stuff. Like the worst bad socks…

Balance – it is not a luxury, it is a necessity (in my opinion and experience). I have found a variety of ways to relax and it depends on what appeals to me at the time. It could be music, meditation, deep breathing, photographing nature, artwork, a hot bath, cuddling up in soft, cozy blankets, etc.

A rigorous exercise regimen really helps me to relax.

  16. 13/12/2011 4:32 pm

    Oops, regimen–NOT regime!!

Dim the lights, light a candle, put on comfy clothes, sit . . . and B~R~E~A~T~H~E!

    Aah . . . that’s better! 😀

A massage! It’s about the only time I feel that jelly like feeling…but then there are the moments where the minis are sleepy and for some reason they don’t want to be running everywhere, so we lie there, quietly, peacefully, and I feel pure relaxation. Hope you are getting a little relaxation in now and then! <3

Sitting meditation, eyes closed, counting breaths = the most consistent peace I have ever know.

  20. 14/12/2011 12:04 pm

Something I need more of – definitely. I’m a bit like you at the moment, E – just not enough hours in the day. I will be back to catch up!

Oh my … The first photo … I feel like I was transported to the Center of the Earth. It’s beautiful!

Just breathing is the most important thing to do to relax. Being by the water or looking at it soothes and relaxes me — I know now I need to have that in my life constantly.

  23. 15/12/2011 6:40 am

Deep breathing and always a massage to smooth out life’s roughness within us. 🙂

  24. 16/12/2011 7:12 am

Ahhh! I long to “relax”…. Life could be choking sometimes!

    Love your photos.. So relaxing!
