Reflections: Be Thankful for What You Have…

11/12/2011

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” Gautama Buddha

Reflections: Be Thankful for What You Have... Life: Rest and be Thankful...

What are we thankful for? Life: Rest and be Thankful…

As we draw closer to the end of the year, many are feeling the stress of the holidays and the endless demands for …. fill in the blank. If you are feeling the strain, even a bit of exhaustion from it all, take a deep breath, pause and know that you are not alone. Then, take a few minutes to see the goodness, the grace, the blessings in your life. What are you thankful for? What gives you joy right now? Be thankful for what you have or as William DeVaughn puts it in his popular song, be thankful for what you got. What are we thankful for? Life, Love, Family, Friends, Grace in all things… Have a Happy Holiday Season! More below. 😉

Be Thankful for What You Got by William DeVaughn.
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Gangsta whitewalls
TV antennas in the back
You may not have a car at all
But remember brothers and sisters
You can still stand tall

Just be thankful for what you’ve got
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Diamond in the back, sunroof top
Diggin’ the scene
With a gangsta lean
Gangsta whitewalls
TV antennas in the back

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey

I Am Thankful by Kathleen Shelton Poulson
I am thankful for everything I have experienced
In this life of mine
For in all I have found
That in His Word-the answers I find

I am thankful for all the tears I have cried
For they have taught me to appreciate laughter
They have given me the ability to see the
The joy that comes after

Through my tears I have come to know
His Holy Spirit in my life
How He is always there
And comforts through the strife

I am thankful for the storms I have encountered
Knowing that the rainbow is at the end
Realization that they are only temporal
That with time all will mend

I have learned that I don’t need to be strong
For Yahshua supplies the strength for me
He shoulders my burdens
Regardless of what the circumstance may be

I am thankful for all the relationships
For the good and yes, for the bad
For they have given life to my emotions
An appreciation of what I have had

My most valuable relationship
Is that with Yahweh, my Father
I know that I can trust Him
As I can trust no other

I am thankful for the pain I have known
It has given a compassion for the suffering
An ability to reach out to others
An appreciation of little things

I understand the greatness of Yahshuas love
And the pain He has suffered for me
How He endured all things
So that I could be set free

I am thankful for the hunger and thirst
That I have had to go through
I appreciate having food before me
And sharing it with others too

He has given himself as my food and drink
To make sure that I was fed
His Blood shed for my drink
And His Body broken for my bread

Most of all, I am thankful for His Grace
For the provisions that it brings
How it has provided for
Me in all things (Poem via best-quotes-poems)

The poem above covers a lot of ground on the subject… for that I am also thankful. What are your thoughts? What are you thankful for? What gives you joy right now? If you could pick only 3 things to be thankful for, what would you choose? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: A Thankful heart reaches deep inside for buckets more and finds endless grace, goodness and riches … reach for yours.

I think it helps just to acknowledge that this is always going to be a tough month if you add in extra social events and all the holiday “happenings” without making a few adjustments. I realized a week ago I was already too stressed and I have intentionally slowed way down…your thoughts on this matter are of so helpful! I appreciate them. Debra

Despite of trials and hardships we go through year after year, there are so many things, events and people that we all should be thankful for. I love the best when you wrote, “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” Gautama Buddha
Even the fact that we are alive and healthy is more than enough to be thankful. Happy Holidays my friend. Wishing you and your family love, peace , great health and happiness.

As we grow and mature, I think we each become more grateful for what we have and what we’ve learned. I am grateful for so many things that I don’t think I could narrow it to three things! Of course, I’m grateful right now because my son’s MRI showed no tumors when I got the results on Friday! Hooray for the Christmas gift I’ve been given! And – there you go – your post right on point with my life… again. Wow. 🙂
