Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast... A close up view of teas...

I love breakfast foods but I’m not much of an early morning meal person. Sure, I do eat the occasional breakfast roll, eggs, fruit or continental breakfast when I travel, and I love Oatmeal, but I’m not a get up in the morning and eat food person. What I do religiously is have a morning cup of tea. The earliest records of tea drinking goes as far back as the 10th Century BC in China. Today,  it is grown in many parts of the world but particularly in China, India, and East Africa. In 2010, a research study showed that people who consumed tea had significantly less cognitive decline than non-tea drinkers. For this Challenge, I’d like to invite you into my tea closet for a peek and a chat about my favorite early morning past-time.

“We arg’ed the thing at breakfast, we arg’ed the thing at tea, And the more we arg’ed the question, the more we didn’t agree.” Will Carleton

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast... My Teas...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast... Another tea close up

I drink all types of teas and buy them whenever I visit a new shop… I also collect them on trips, and friends and family do give me a few; loose leaf or teabags. Come back for more on my breakfast journey into the world of teas…(updated) I grew up drinking tea and, as you can tell from my photos, I love buying and trying different kinds of tea. A few of my favorites are Lapsang Souchong; a smoky flavored tea from China. I also love English, Irish and Scottish Breakfast. Assam teas are also on my top daily favorite list with Darjeeling, Ceylon, Green, Chai and  Earl Grey teas. I recently tried Rooibos; a South African blend and loved it… For me, tea is not just a hot beverage, it’s a delightful, satisfying morning drink that requires careful preparation and all the requisite rituals that go with drinking tea. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! More below. 😉

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast... More teas

After my morning oblations, I go to the kitchen and prepare my tea. First, the water must be very hot; no lukewarm water for my tea, then it must be steeped for a few minutes; either in the cup or teapot and I rinse out my teapots with some hot water from the kettle.  I add milk and honey or a sweetener to my cup before I pour the hot water, it makes a difference in taste for me.. I often reach for Barry’s Irish Gold Tea, Whittard’s of Chelsea or Bromley’s English Breakfast. Then, as the day progresses, I help myself to other teas; including the Green Teas, and yes, some coffee too.

“Hope is a good breakfast but a bad supper.” Francis Bacon, Sr.

Another ritual I hold dear are my teapot sets which I rotate whenever it’s time to use them. I tend to use the small white teapot because it’s small enough for one person and  I can make enough for two cups…Tea leaves contain more than 700 chemicals and have beneficial properties that support and heal our immune system. You can drink it hot or cold and milk and sweeteners are optional.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast... Which tea do you prefer?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Breakfast… Finally...

Even though tea is very popular in almost every country in the world, the largest producers of tea are the People’s Republic of China, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Turkey. Prices vary from inexpensive to pricey for premium brands. You can drink it anytime of the day and the best part is that tea is good for us.  Grab a seat, have some tea and tell me your story… Happy Thanksgiving! What about you? Was it easy/hard to find the right photos for your examples of breakfast? Were you drawn to specific examples for the prompt? Did you enjoy selecting your photos for this prompt? Do share? Thank you! 🙂

Got quite an impressive selection of teas there Elizabeth – you must be quite the connoisseur! I love your tea-sets and a cuppa out of any one of those cups would taste even better!
I love a cup of tea myself, but have to start off the day with a coffee – then it’s tea for the rest of the day.

I’m not the eggs/bacon/toast kinda person. In Jamaica, most people eat a big breakfast which holds them till lunch. Here’s a typical breakfast — insidejourneys.com/weekly-photo-challenge-breakfast
Of course, not many people can cook like that and get children and themselves ready and make it to work on time, so I usually do oatmeal. But I love tea. Like you, I have a cabinet full of all kinds of teas — a friend supplies me with regular fill up on Chinese teas which she gets from her friend in China. In SA, I discovered and fell in love with rooibos, several boxes of which returned with me. I also like hibiscus, jasmine, mint (I’m in heaven now that I can pick fresh mint from the backyard to make my tea!), orange, etc.
I don’t know if you know about this guy, but you should check them out for African teas — they’re in NYC but you can buy online. http://www.carandafoods.com/
    Happy Thanksgiving!

Tea for you . . . coffee for me!
    Happy Thanksgiving, E!

My goodness! You do like your cuppa, don’t you? What a collection–I’m going to try some of those teas like the Roosbos and Scottish Breakfast. Nothing like a very hot cup of tea. My 90-year old, depression era mother-in-law dips it in a cup for a few seconds, then dips the same bag into another cup and so on! I told her that she no longer has to do that anymore. Oh well, old habits . . .

This is quite the selection and collection of teas. I see you love your British teas too. Those navy blue Whittard’s are my favorite and I buy them when possible.
Did you enjoy Steve Smith’s Brahmin #18? I love drinking tea too and I’m impressed by your collections.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. 24/11/2011 12:50 pm

Yeah, I’m not an early breakfast eater either. Never have been, never will be! Not sure why, but I simply cannot eat early in the mornings… Happy Thanksgiving to you by the way Eliz! I hope you have a wonderful one! 🙂

  14. 24/11/2011 7:59 pm

A very nice way to start the day. I didn’t know that tea was so good for you. Happy Thanksgiving.

Tea and coffee always trying to win me over, however, coffee, nice and black, dark roasted and freshly brewed comes out the champion every morning. Poor little tea is sent back into the pantry shelf….:(
I should send my tea to your place….probably get treated better!
    Great post!

  21. 26/11/2011 8:42 pm

    Ooh – you have so many! That’s it! I’m coming over… 😉

But wait – where is the photo of the best tea? Big Train Vanilla Chai Tea!! Most people find it way too sweet! I cannot live without my morning vanilla chai. Ahhh…. I LOVE this post! I do love a good cup of other types of hot tea in the winter but my true tea love will always be the Big Train… 🙂

    • 26/11/2011 9:40 pm

I’ve never heard of Big Train… what do you think of Oregon Chai? I love it… Now I must go search for Big Train. 🙂
