On Music: American Music Awards 2011…

Like many of you, I love music and watch the music awards shows to not only hear great songs played but also to see who else might show up to perform. Tonight at the American Music Awards, it was LMFAO and Maroon 5 that made me smile. Also Mary J. Blige’s tribute to Heavy D was so sweet, and then Chris Brown rocked it with his dancing. Loved his blond do too. Taylor Swift cleaned up with multiple awards and Will.I.Am‘s new song was pretty good. Jennifer Lopez rocked the song with him and outdid herself with her dancing… that lady can dance. The winners are listed below…

Gym Class Heroes: Stereo Hearts ft. Adam Levine

Even though the Grammys are considered a more prestigious award, I love the American Music Awards because it represents the voices/opinions ofย  the fans. They/we are ones who go out there and buy the music, listen to it, play it at parties, clubs, gyms and other places until almost every one hears it ad nauseum. I find that the awards do honor artists whose music the fans are enjoying and playing regularly… so kudos to all the winners!ย  Okay, I added videos of songs I wanted to share okay? ๐Ÿ˜‰ More below

“For me, singing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open into the light, out of the darkness.” Reba McEntire

Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger (Explicit)

Bruno Mars – Grenade

I was thrilled when Maroon 5 won in their category; especially as I had written a post about the song above. I’d join them any day and play the acoustic guitar… ๐Ÿ˜‰ Overall, the AMA show was a lot of fun and a reminder that there are many talented performers out there to listen to and enjoy. Of course, the hope is that there will be room to feature and honor more new talent down the road. I’m all for great and new music so lets keep our ears and eyes peeled for new sounds that will be showing up next year. By the way, I saw Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s Watch The Throne Show in Atlantic City last night; 3 straight hours of non-stop rap and more. It was phenomenal with some minor hiccups, but I digress, more on that on another post coming soon. The AMAs rock! What are your thoughts? Did you watch the American Music Awards (AMAs)? Did you like a particular performer or performers?ย  Do share! Thank you. :-)

I go through phases where I like music and then I go through phases where I like the idea of music…honestly I do not listen to much music. I have replayed the same stuff over and over. The music I do listen to is mostly vocal-less; Boards of Canada and some other ambient stuff. I like music and appreciate its’ value but I don’t listen to it much…Now. There was a time in my life when my life revolved around music.
I do like watching performances like Jennifer’s and Taylor’s, they are inspiring.

I usually watch but missed it last night. I have to say, and I think I’m the last person on earth who feels this way, I do not understand the adoration of Taylor Swift! For me every one of her songs sound the same. I don’t get it.
She’s adorable but her music leaves me cold.
I do like Maroon 5 very much and a wide variety of music. Not a rap fan.
As usual you’ve covered this brilliantly!
    thanks

    Glad you enjoyed.

My niece just went to see Taylor Swift in Tampa. Now, I know what Taylor Swift looks and sounds like. Thanks, E!

It was a fun show and I enjoyed the same performances that you did too. Taylor is beautiful but her music bores me.
Kudos to all of the winners. The fans spoke and I can iive with that too! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I thought the AMA’s were great this year, I can’t usually make it through the whole thing, but this year I did ๐Ÿ™‚ even though I am not a big Taylor Swift fan, you gotta give the girl kudos for what she has accomplished ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband and I watched the AMAs last night. We thought they had some great performances. Jennifer Lopez, LMFAO and Maroon 5 rocked the stage.
I like Taylor Swift and she deserves all of her awards, but listening to her songs all day long would just be too boring.
I’ve never seen Pitbull before. When I first saw him last night, I told my husband, “Hey, he looks like you!” My husband said, “That’s who Pitbull is! Everyone at work keeps telling me that I look like Pitbull.”
ps My husband isn’t Latino, he’s just bald and wears sunglasses a lot.

I’m sittin’ in the hospital keeping watch at my father’s bedside (gall bladder surgery), so this post was a treasure, listening to all that talent! Thanks, Eliz, I needed that.

It’s funny the things that lose importance when you’re in another place. I didn’t see the awards, not because I couldn’t but because things have shifted, priorities changed. I love Mary J. Blige and missed her interview with Byron Pitts on today’s Sunday Morning on CBS. Also love Chris Brown, would have loved to have seen him perform. Love his hair.
