Reflections: Ten Things To Do Before The Year Ends…

Reflections: Ten Things To Do Before The Year Ends... Procession to the lists. Get Organized.

The year 2011 will be over in less than 2 months, and before we know it,  so will  all the cherished unfinished plans we left on the back burner. It is remarkable to consider that only 10 1/2 months ago, we started the Daily Post Challenge; our commitment to post daily or weekly on our blogs. Most of us stayed on for the long, arduous ride, some left for more pressing engagements, and all of us grew from the experience.  Definitely, it has been an exhilarating year, however, there is still work to do.

“Try a thing you haven’t done three times. Once, to get over the fear of doing it. Twice, to learn how to do it. And a third time, to figure out whether you like it or not.” Virgil Garnett Thomson

Reflections: Ten Things To Do Before The Year Ends... Create a Blog to do list...

Even with the best intentions, as we wind down our tasks for the year, there are probably a few things many of us still need to do. If you are not sure about what might be missing on your list, do another simple review of your new year’s resolutions and that should help kick-start a slew of list ideas. Without further ado, here are ten things we can all do before wrapping up 2011 and welcoming 2012.
♥ Revisit list of resolutions from the beginning of 2011 – choose only what is critical to complete by year’s end
♥ Review holiday plans for Thanksgiving, Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza and the New Year celebrations
♥ Re-establish a regular exercise routine
♥ Update our contact lists; friends, family, acquaintances
♥ Finish that lingering manuscript for submission; ditto the list of books to read, the blog post and any unfinished paperwork

Thank you all for your visits and comments. I  appreciate the support and will catch up on all blog visits  over the weekend. Thank you for your patience! More below.  🙂

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Reflections: Ten Things To Do Before The Year Ends... Review & Update your Hit List...

♥ Prepare Holiday greetings to send out to all
♥ Revamp your surroundings and toss out things no longer used.
♥ Purchase Holiday gifts and complete returns
♥ Give to your favorite charity
♥ Share your gratitude: let your friends and family know you love them

I know there are tons of things we could add to this list…
However, I have added ten things that will help us all get organized, so December can become a productive month; a time when we truly wrap up the year on a sound note. Feel free to include anything that matters to you and share them with us too. What are your thoughts? How did your year turn out so far? What things do you still have to do? How do you plan to complete your tasks? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from Plinky: Make a list of things you want to do before the end of this year.

Positive Motivation Tip: It’s never too late to complete a To Do list… Yours awaits you!

I like the idea “create a blog to-do list”– good idea! Waiting for the motivation to kick in 🙂

  2. 19/11/2011 11:20 pm

Thank you for a priceless list of things to do before the year ends. A perfect way to make sure no stones were unturned, no dreams misssed, no goals drifting in space and no task unaccomplished. We can finally say on the first days of 2012,” it was a beautiful 2011, full of wonderful events and memories. It was a great year and now I’m ready to conquer the new one.” thank you. It’s been an amazing year for all of us. I feel blessed and grateful for all of it.

You give some excellent ideas what to put on the ‘to do’ list. I hope to achieve some of the things that are listed, preferably before the end of the year. I am relluctant to put too many things on my list. I plan on doing one thing at a time and as soon as I”ve accomplished it and feel energetic enough to do some more, I’ll look on your list and try to do some more of these things which are important to me. Thanks for your blog and all the encouragement! It’s good to be encouraged in such a thoughtful way.

I agree “all of us grew from the experience” and it encouraged us all to reach out to other bloggers. I’ve met some wonderful bloggers across the world and we all support each other. Some fell by the wayside (Classy Rose) never to be heard of again, but others have gone from strength to strength.
The WordPress Postaday2011/Postaweek2011 is absolutely great!
I will be so sad when it ends, especially the weekly photo challenge which has been a great talking point. I wonder what will happen if anything next year?

    As for lists…hmmm I joined the 101/1001 challenge. http://pigletinportugal.wordpress.com/1011001-2/

So my 10 things to do before Christmas must include update my list!

    dear Eliz,
all of us grew from the experience…
    3 of my last goals:
♥ make an arrangement for solo guitar to play Mistery Train
♥ travel to BERLIN to welcome my third grandson (still in the belly)
♥ continue to write daily a wordpress article with a good photo

At first your headline made me panic–I feel like I’m forever racing against the clock. I have not stuck to a regular schedule blogging (or visiting fav blogs like yours) and I feel guilty, while understanding on an intellectual level that guilt is a fairly useless emotion. Love your quote on this post! Borrowing the Ruskin one for my blog!

  7. 20/11/2011 4:08 am

What a nice list. I need to check my friends to meet this year. 🙂

  8. 20/11/2011 6:51 am

Great post, Eliz. I do need to revisit my list. While I have stuck to the postaday, some things have slid because of it! The least I could do is end the year by painting a picture and spending time with family and then make next year’s list!

  9. 20/11/2011 7:03 am

I only have 3 things on my list:

    1. Be Here Now
    2. Enjoy the Journey
    3. Breathe, Relax, Repeat 😀

  10. 20/11/2011 8:40 am

One of my ten things is to catch up on Daily Post prompts!

  11. 20/11/2011 10:16 am

    Dream big…

  12. 20/11/2011 11:25 am

Good job on completing 10 1/2 months of the daily post challenge. I have enjoyed getting your posts in my in box every morning…they have become part of my wake up routine.

  13. 20/11/2011 5:00 pm

I will return to a healthier lifestyle including food choices, proper rest and relaxation, and more fun and less work.

    But I digress.

  14. 20/11/2011 5:43 pm

Thanks for posting this. I’ll revisit my list and see what else I haven’t accomplished and focus on them.
I’m slowly catching up on my reading. I picked up a book that was on my list and the receipt fell out. I bought it in 2007! Thankfully, now I can cross it off my list.

  15. 20/11/2011 6:51 pm

Oh, Eliz, there was a time when the idea of an end-of-year-to-do-list would have freaked me out! But I’m feeling oddly encouraged by the end of the year, and the To Do list feels rather intuitive – not like “gosh, I really should do this.” I want to do it, so I can approach 2012 with renewed enthusiasm and purpose!

Cheers! And thanks for the mirth and motivation! 🙂

    Elizabeth

  16. 20/11/2011 7:28 pm

Eliz, how are you doing so far on your list? I find that the act of creating a list helps keep me sane. Even if I don’t complete all of the tasks, by crossing them off one-by-one, I am able to realize how much I actually accomplish. Here is to a good new year. Miriam

  17. 21/11/2011 4:13 am

Lists can be helpful, but sometimes I just have to do the job in front of me. Today the fish tank and the bird cages are screaming to be cleaned, but I will ponder my end of the year goals as I do my best for the pets. Thanks for the words of encouragement, Eliz.

  18. 21/11/2011 7:04 am

“What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.” Love this quote – especially since the likelihood is that I shan’t make a list nor follow any. Truly, I mostly just stumble along and try to do as your commenter NR Hatch does above… I thank you Elizabeth for giving me the motivation you have throughout this year. You have been like that shining star that – when I look up in the sky – is always there to guide me… <3

  19. 21/11/2011 5:12 pm

Exercise Routine! Wah! =s I should get this going before the year ends!

  20. 22/11/2011 3:30 am

I have no idea yet – I’ll give it some thought over this coming weekend. For use this has been a MOMENTOUS year – I’m not sure we can fit anything else in!

  21. 22/11/2011 7:06 am

By reading your list, make me remember that I will need to make a list for things that I have done them yet before the year end 😀
Thank you Eliz, Most importantly The kids and I have to finish the handmade Christmas tree ornaments before Christmas of course 🙂 Will share on my blog when we finish it later on

  22. 22/11/2011 2:20 pm

Great reminder. Quickly thinking about my intentions at the start of 2011, I have plenty I can recycle. One new one: next year I finish my book!

  23. 22/11/2011 5:47 pm

Great list…I will revisit my New Years resolution list, I wonder how I did?

  24. 23/11/2011 10:23 am

Make a list of the things you are worried about and pack it away with your holiday decorations. Next year you can see that most of them didn’t deserve the time you spent thinking about them. It’s fun and it is an eye opener. Happy New Year.

  25. 27/11/2011 7:04 am

    This is a great idea!

  26. 27/11/2011 9:16 pm

Since I gave up on making plans I call my “resolutions” a wish list. Regular reviews of past months and weeks always surprise me with how many wished have come true (some of which I didn’t even know I had), and how often my previous wished have become entirely obsolete, and it’s just good they didn’t come true 😉
