Musings: Angels Amongst Us…

17/11/2011

Musings: Angels Amongst Us... Dante's Paradiso Canto ... a circle of angels

Do you believe in angels? Do you believe there are angels and perhaps aliens amongst us? I do. Yes, I have tackled this topic in the past, and I return to it because I have read that when the world is in turmoil and people are struggling to make sense of difficult conditions, the angels come and walk amongst us to give us comfort and help.  Also, I return to it because I believe I met an angel recently… but I’m ahead of myself.  Of course, key to this notion of having angels in our midst is the belief that we must also ask for help and believe that we will receive it.

“If you seek an angel with an open heart… You shall always find one.” Anonymous

Musings: Angels Amongst Us... and they come to help us...

A few days ago, I was taking a walk on the Croton Aqueduct and believe I met an angel. If you’ve read this blog before, you’d know that I have written about my nature walks on the beautiful aqueduct before; I find both solace and creative inspiration when taking my leisurely walks there and also get the benefit of great exercise.  While walking, I stumbled on a rock and my mini radio went flying out of my hand. I love listening to different music stations and NPR on my radio and usually clip it to my shirt. As I stumbled, this ethereal being showed up out of nowhere. More below… 😉

Every blade of grass has an angel that bends over it and whispers, ‘Grow! Grow!’…” Talmud

Musings: Angels Amongst Us... Archangel Michael slaying the demon...

As he started walking towards me, I paused in surprise and then quickly bent down to reach for my radio. In the bat of an eyelid, he was right in front of me and flashing a huge smile like a thousand suns, he asked me “Are you okay reaching for that?” It was said with the utmost care and compassion; not the way a predator would ask the question… I smiled back, picked up the mini radio and said “Yes, thank you. I can get it.” He smiled warmly and said “There. Good job!” and pausing in front of me as if in quiet prayer, he smiled again and then sauntered off. Oh yes, he looked just like Archangel Michael in the picture above. He didn’t sound like you or me; his voice had a distant echo to it and almost alien like… but it was soothing no less. Now this might seem like an innocuous conversation to anyone, but for me, it was rich in meaning for reasons I wont divulge at this time… What I do remember is that my mind stopped its usual chatter, I felt lighthearted and blessed.  Sure, we can all be angels to someone, and then sometimes, the heavenly angels show up for us too. What are your thoughts?  Have you ever met an angel? Do you believe in angels on earth?  Do share! Thank you. 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from Plinky: Do you think aliens have ever visited Earth?

Positive Motivation Tip: Angels are everywhere and ready to help us all too… Pay attention.

Yes, Elizabeth, I sure do believe in angels. I have had more than one occurrence in my life when I am sure there were angels nearby. I don’t think I’ve ever felt I saw one directly, but I do believe that others have. My mother told me that as a little girl, I suppose I was very small, I told her that I saw them. My son at three said that he did! I have always wondered if children have a special insight and sensitivity. It’s getting late and I’m headed to bed…what a lovely way to close out my evening. I have the picture of the Madonna, Christ-child and angel musicians that you shared framed and in my bedroom. It is a comfort. Debra

There have been times when I have felt protected….here are some phrases about people who practice “metta,” which is to live with a spirit of loving- kindness and generosity….there is mention of angels in there.

In the respect of which you are speaking then, yes, I too believe in angels. When I reflect on those instances when angels have guided me, I get chills.

I believe in the possibility of aliens. Not at all out of the realms of possibility. 🙂

Okay – just weird! I got chills when I read that part where you wrote “it was rich in meaning…”

Yes. I strongly believe. There was an angel that watched over me during my pregnancy which was exceptionally difficult. Both my husband and I could smell this floral scent in certain rooms of our house while I was pregnant and for the first year of my son’s life. Then, it left. How’s that? 🙂

Sometime soon, I will write about that! You inspire me!

I have no doubt that angels were with me every step of my Appalachian Trail hike. And sometimes in every day life too. And once when I spun my car around in snow at night on an interstate – I was all alone and this man who looked just like Charley in It’s A Wonderful Life showed up from out of nowhere to push my car back onto the road. He was definitely an angel. Thanks for this post, Elizabeth!

I do believe Elizabeth…I have seen, spoken and felt…pretty exciting!

    I do, I do, Elizabeth.
This is a beautiful story. I’m glad yours came and brought you the assurance that you needed. Every little thing’s gonna be all right!
    Thanks for sharing.

Oh yes! I’ve been cradled by angels more than once. The voice you speak of was repeating to me as my car was spinning in the air, “You’re going to be fine…. you’re going to be fine…” It was comforting and surreal at the same time. The angel was correct…I was fine.
    Love this!

I used to love the show Touched by an Angel ~ it filled me with hope for the future.

This is so lovely. I too believe in angels and I myself and my family growing up and now have been protected in several occasions. And now, after the experience with our babies, more times than I can count. I half expect that one day someone will tell me that one of the nurses that so carefully looked after our babies in the NICU, “was never a nurse at that hospital,” you and the babies are the only ones lucky enough to have known they were there for those 4 neverending months.

I love the way you describe you encounter and I get goose bumps just imagining your interaction..for whatever your meaning was, I am delighted for you in your encounter and I hope that lightness that filled your heart stays with you:)

I haven’t met an angel, yet. But, I have faith that they exist.

Wow! That is amazing! I definitely believe in Angels. I believe we are surrounded by them and they are watching over us. 🙂

In many forms there are blessings beyond our ability to comprehend them. I know of three for certain miracles that have happened in my life. Its seems the more I open myself, the more the goodness arrives. I am confident you melt an angel if you feel you did… whether flesh or otherwise does not matter…

    Thanks for sharing this experience!
Yes, I do believe in angels. I have never seen one, but I do feel their presence. And I believe now that an angel helped me save our daughter when she was 3 weeks old.
