When we think of the word “hidden,” what pops into our mind is a concealed, obscured object kept out of sight or reach. Others are not allowed to know about it or touch it for a whole slew of reason not worth touching on here. Typically, the hidden in question is deliberate; an intentional act to keep our grubby fingers off the Queen’s jewels. Oh well, some things can’t be helped as they are beautiful… but I digress. The subject is about the lens revealing the hidden; capturing that which we saw but not fully until our second, third, or fifth shot.

Nevertheless, this week’s Photo Challenge assignment has added a bit of a spin on the subject and the goal is to seek and reveal that which is hidden. I like that approach. Of course, first we had to decide if the object was/is indeed hidden… or not. This part made the challenge a tad more edgy; making us determine the balance between the staged and the obscure. If you look at my selections for the challenge, you’ll understand what I’m referencing.

For this challenge, I went back to my burgeoning photo files and dug deep for shots that already existed. You see, I wanted to make sure I understood the difference between a shot I took without anticipating the ‘hidden’ feature, and one I took with ‘hidden’ as a goal… I don’t know what the experience was for you but I enjoyed this little experiment. See if you can tell from my photos. I have added both the pre (hidden) and post (revealed) shots of each photo, and added content to each shot. I will add more explanations below or as needed. More below. 😉

To have this exercise in ‘hidden’ make sense, I chose to add both the pre (hidden) and post (revealed) shots of each photo. I like to take multiple shots of the same thing and then choose what to use. The deer shot was rather sudden and then off he went. Tangy was easy to shoot; he loves nooks and cozy spots. The barge/freight ship was fascinating to watch as it appeared and disappeared as the sun shifted directions while setting. The above was taken on a visit to Bard… Gorgeous building.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Hidden... Here she is! The praying monk behind the beautiful lights.
The prayer ceremony was so exquisite that I wanted to capture it. I took a quick shot of the lights and then when the person in front of me shifted, I captured the monk praying. What about you? Was it easy/hard to find photographic examples of hidden? Where you drawn to specific examples for the prompt? Did you enjoy gathering photos for this prompt? Do share? Thank you! 🙂

Good grief! I swear this is true – I thought the first Gehry picture was of unrolled wallpaper over a cat cage. I thought a cat had been messing about.

I love the first picture! I’ve not seen any deer since I’ve been in Portugal. It they were about here – the hunters shoot everything they can.
This was a fun post! I love the way you showed a close up where we had to try to guess what was hidden and then you zoomed out and showed us, very creative! 🙂
Neat idea–the before and after revealing the hidden. Love that Frank Gehry house and, of course, he kitty–they do like to hide.
I love that Tangy!! Such a cutie! I would not have been prepared for this challenge at all. You amaze me that you have so many shots that fit the bill for each challenge! I love the deer too… I’m finding that I really enjoy your animal shots each week. (I could not see the freighter at all but loved the shot of the sun – such vibrant colors!) Great photos! 🙂

Good job Eliz. I wasn’t sure about the Ghery close up. It lloked like a crumpled piece of paper. I would have never guessed a building structure.

What a fun challenge. It makes me think of the times I have photographed something and when I look at the photo, something is there that I hadn’t previously seen.
