Humor: Ten Signs That Say It’s Time To Go…

Humor: Ten Signs That Say It's Time To Go... The party hats are packed away

At some point in our lives, we’ve all been to places where we probably outlasted our welcome; intentionally or not. When that happens, there are often subtle ways we are nudged to move on… Sometimes we notice and at other times we ignore the hints. Here are ten signs that tell us it’s time to move on from a party, a visit with relatives, an event or any place that isn’t your home.

♥The party hats are packed away
♥The family informs you they will be leaving town shortly
♥Everyone has left and the host is yawning
♥The children come downstairs and ask if you’re the delivery guy
♥The cops come to pick you up as someone called saying an invader is in the house

More below… ***To my dear blog friends, I will catch up on comments on your blogs and on mine  when I have access to power…  This was created at Barnes & Noble/Starbucks and it’s time for me to offer up my seat… Someone is glaring at me… That is the bonus sign that says it’s time to go. 😉 More signs below.. TY!

“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.” Albert Einstein

Humor: Ten Signs That Say It's Time To Go... The cleaning staff ask you to move...

♥The cleaning staff ask you to move
♥The relatives suggest you stay in a nearby hotel next time you visit
♥The party host hands you a bill for all the damage done by everyone else
♥The lights are turned low or off.
♥The heat is turned off and everyone announces loudly, that your time is up

Even with a quote like this one from Stacy Charter,“Life is all about timing… the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable… attainable. Have the patience, wait it out It’s all about timing.”, at some point we must move on.  What about you? What are your thoughts? When is it time to leave a place? Do you remember being encouraged to leave a party or place? How did it make you feel? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Daily Post: How do you know when it’s time to go? Like at a party or when you meet a friend for coffee?

I agree that “some” guests “do not know when to leave.” I feel it is the attention seekers or talkers..braggers…they just don’t quit. I have often been at a party where this has happened in the past. It was especially true of the “drinker” of the party. I am always on time for parties, and I know when it is time for me to leave. What is crazy is my sister is always late. LOL… That is what makes us special I guess.

For people like you, Eliz, it is never time to leave!
Snowed in and without power…and still you faithfully deliver pearls of wisdom and food for thought!
Thank you so much! Take care…I know it must be a beautiful winter wonderland…but not easy to get out and about. 🙂

Some people don’t know when to quit or leave a party. It is so sad when a host has to tell them to leave.
With the snow in your area, I bet the cafes are packed. Take care and get some rest.

I’ve had a few guests like that. Sometimes, you have to tell them straight out.

“Everyone has left and the host is yawning” This has happened to me several times. guests arrive at 19.00 and they are still there at

02.30am…they’ve drunk all your wine, hit the brandy and still looking for more.

Subtle hint (In that there is no more alchol on offer)
“Would you like a coffee for the road?”

Mr Piglet once said to our new neighbours at midnight, on a worknight
“It’s alright for some, but some of us have to get up in five hours time to go to work”
    I nearly died of embarrassment!
They went but we never received a return invite.

I have had a few of those…I have had house guests that have stayed with me and not lifted a finger to help despite me asking them to do so!

Powerless and yet, not without humor! Thanks for posting today!

My favorite quote from my grandfather, a southern gentleman… “Well Mother (he called my grandmother that) we should go to bed so these good people can go home.”

I now have this fantastic comment to get overstaying guests to leave – “OMG is that the time. I haven’t written my blog yet”. Works every time or at least the one time I have used it. 😀

I love that , “be the life of the party but know when to say adios!

My husband complains that I’m always the last to leave a party! I guess my sign to leave is his impatience…

    • 31/10/2011 4:15 pm

You have reminded me that one sign my husband should notice as being an indication it is time to depart the home is when the five other family members are sitting in the car ready to gooooooooooooooooo.

  18. 31/10/2011 6:43 pm

Yes, the yawning is always a sign!! I have tried that to get people to leave… In Jamaica, people don’t take the hints (subtle or not so subtle) very well! Hope you get power back soon!

How was it–writing your post from a coffee shop? I must try that sometime. I sit safely in my office where I can ‘concentrate’, but maybe I’m missing inspiration.

    Clever post.

There’s usually a bunch of people who leave at the same time. I leave right after they do.

It’s all in the timing. Had fun reading this! I hope all is well with you!

  22. 03/11/2011 9:52 am

Well, I thank you for all the great suggestions. I must make a list to keep handy…we’ve had non-stop houseguests since early July, and somehow my name has made it to the “friends and family” registry alerting all that we host a free B & B. I may just have to pull out this list and find a few prompts to augment the look of fatigue on my face! Hope your power is restored. Weren’t you resourceful!! Debra

Finding just the right time to leave is somehow close to art. You have to feel the atmosphere and make everyone comfortable with your leave. My personal tip is to leave earlier than you would want to.
