Inspiration: In The Light…

“You must enshrine in your hearts the spiritual urge towards light and love, Wisdom and Bliss!” Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Yesterday was Diwali Day – The Festival of Lights, and to all who celebrate it in India and around the world: May the light symbolized by Diwali illuminate the hearts and minds of all with the grace and light of the Lord. Shubh Diwali! As I thought about that wonderful celebration, it brought to mind the beauty and blessings we receive daily from all forms of light around us. When we talk about light, it is usually in positive terms; as a reference to that which up lifts and inspires us… Walking in the light, being in the light, lighting a flame and on…

Light by Rabindranath Tagore
Light, my light, the world-filling light,
the eye-kissing light,
heart-sweetening light!

Ah, the light dances, my darling, at the center of my life;
the light strikes, my darling, the chords of my love;
the sky opens, the wind runs wild, laughter passes over the earth. Contd below

“I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.” Og Mandino

The world we inhabit is filled with light; if only we would stop and look at it, engage it and embrace it. When we wake up in the morning, we are greeted by the bright rays of the sun. At night, the stars come out to bid us goodnight. We know the value of the light after we’ve been n the dark, and most of us crave the warmth and safety of the light.  I have added some magnificent pictures taken by NASA of different aspects of our solar system… all in the light. Contemplate them. Reflect on the light within… Enjoy the poems above/below and share your vision of the light.

The butterflies spread their sails on the sea of light.
Lilies and jasmines surge up on the crest of the waves of light.

The light is shattered into gold on every cloud, my darling,
and it scatters gems in profusion.

Mirth spreads from leaf to leaf, my darling,
and gladness without measure.
The heaven’s river has drowned its banks
and the flood of joy is abroad.

“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Edith Wharton

We make choices about how we wish to reflect our light. Some shine brightly, touching and healing everything in their path. Some glare with intensity, inhaling the oxygen in the air from everyone else. Some glow gently, spreading goodwill and blessings. However we choose, our light has an impact on others. When the light appears, we experience it in our own special way and we get from it as much as we put into it… Don’t forget Daylight Savings Time will be on November 6th when we fall back an hour, reset our clocks, gain an extra hour to sleep, and darkness comes earlier. 😉

When The Light Appears by Allen Ginsberg
Lento
You’ll bare your bones you’ll grow you’ll pray you’ll only know
When the light appears, boy, when the light appears
You’ll sing & you’ll love you’ll praise blue heavens above
When the light appears, boy, when the light appears
You’ll whimper & you’ll cry you’ll get yourself sick and sigh
You’ll sleep & you’ll dream you’ll only know what you mean

More Below. 😉

“For light I go directly to the Source of light, not to any of the reflections.” Peace Pilgrim

When we talk about the source of the light, we imagine something greater than ourselves; something that is closer than our breath and that resides inside of us. The source of our light is in everything and everywhere. I remember, years ago, I bought a book on Kashmir Shavism that had a picture of a meditating, cross-legged monk/Buddha  surrounded by all sorts of lifeforms in nature on the cover. Within those lifeforms were miniature, glowing forms of the the Buddha. The light in him was/is the light in us.

When the light appears, boy, when the light appears
You’ll come & you’ll go, you’ll wander to and fro
You’ll go home in despair you’ll wonder why’d you care
You’ll stammer & you’ll lie you’ll ask everybody why
You’ll cough and you’ll pout you’ll kick your toe with gout
You’ll jump you’ll shout you’ll knock you’re friends about
You’ll bawl and you’ll deny & announce your eyes are dry

“When you have come to the edge Of all light that you know And are about to drop off into the darkness Of the unknown, Faith is knowing One of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or You will be taught to fly”  Patrick Overton

In some circles, there is the belief that, at the end of life, our soul escapes as a beam of light from an orifice. Which body orifice will depend on the life we have led… A great soul leaves his or her body peacefully, bathed in shimmering light. We have access to that light… Let’s make an effort to live our lives in the light… Stand In the light.

When the light appears, boy, when the light appears
You’ll roll and you’ll rock you’ll show your big hard rock
You’ll love and you’ll grieve & one day you’ll come believe
As you whistle & you smile the lord made you worthwhile
You’ll preach and you’ll glide on the pulpit in your pride
Sneak & slide across the stage like a river in high tide
You’ll come fast or come on slow just the same you’ll never know
When the light appears, boy, when the light appears

What about you? What do you think? What are your thoughts? Where do you seek light? What does being in the light mean to you? Do you have dreams of light? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

Somebody once said that the photon is the closest we can get to divinity. After looking at the above pictures, maybe he was right. Great post!

Light can be so much more than a flame or a photon – it is a way to illuminate your sense of self from within. It can be a belief and it can be faith – I love the quote from Patrick Overton – how beautiful…

That being said, I am mesmerized by the photo “Diwali Diya light” – there is something very beautiful about the combination of water and candles… so peaceful! Thank you Elizabeth. 🙂

I’ve spent so much of my life feeling heavy with burdens that “light” now means to me the brilliance that comes with feeling light of heart. ♥

Love the photos you’ve chosen, Elizabeth. Being in the light, to me, means things are going well, my path is sure, guided.

Yet another inspiring post. I love the pictures you have chosen and love also the quote that you are either a candle or a mirror reflecting the light. Either one is good and works for me.:)

Keep forgetting to ask you to unsubscribe to my blog. Then wait a day to resubscribe. I can’t think of another way to sort out the issue you’re having. Let me know if that works.

I love the first morning light…. the light of the moon and the stars. There is just something about it that comforts the soul!

Those pictures are so neat. I always liked looking at stars and planets. I used to have a telescope when I was 10 years old. It was nothing great since it wasn’t very powerful. I would love to see some cool pictures like that through a telescope.

I used to read about Space in my science book. I would keep reading and reading for hours. Light is vital because our sun gives us all life.
