Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort…

12/10/2011

Comfort was allowed to come to them, rare, welcome, unsought: a gift like joy.” Ursula K. LeGuin

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Cozy room, soft pillows, lights, fun...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Walking in shoes that fit... these are Janet Jackson's not mine.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Crepes, fine wine, good conversation in a tiny cafe...

When I think of the word ‘comfort,’ what usually comes to mind is comfort foods, warm blankets, soft pillows, and cute babies, pets or animals enjoying the protection or shelter of loved ones.  It is comforting to see other things that fit under the banner of comfort.  Jodi’s exquisite bowl of soup set the stage for the rest of us to find other suitable examples for the photo challenge. The photos I selected for this challenge vary a little bit, however, I do offer up food, mostly desserts, our family cat Tangy, a few animals and more. I hope you enjoy looking at my contributions to this week’s Photo Challenge – Comfort… 😉

“Comfort is the only thing our civilization can give us.” Oscar Wilde

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Food ... Paella or Jambalaya will do

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Melt in your mouth macarons

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Soup works... Crayfish soup too

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... An exquisite dessert...

Food is a great comforter and we reach for it for survival and to stave off emotional chaos and pain. Dessert works for some of us; I love macarons and a decorative sweet, while others reach for soups, savory foods or stick to your ribs meals. When we enjoy a well prepared meal, we feel wonderful inside; comforted, hugged and nourished. What foods trigger that warm hugged feeling for you?

“My comfort is that old age, that ill layer-up of beauty, can do no more spoil upon my face.”  William Shakespeare

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Our cat Tangy... all tucked in...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... A Tapir snoozes in the sand ... happily we hope.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Nyala family relaxing in the summer sun...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Mama duck watching her brood...

Comfort can be found in cozy moments of rest in a blanket or just simply on mother earth. We find comfort in snuggling up to our moms, or in a comfy position or place to rest.  Comfort is knowing that someone, somewhere cares… Humans do it, pets and other animals do it too…

“Oh the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are.”  Dinah Maria Mulock

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Delicious desserts...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... A tasty and healthy salad...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Two monkeys at play... scratch my back...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort... Tangy in a blanket...

We all love to feel comfortable and welcomed. We find that when we relax and open our hearts and minds to our surroundings the chances of finding comfort is greater. It might not come from others as we will find a way to ensure that the comfort we seek is found or comes… Here are a few more…

What are your thoughts? Was it easy/hard to find photographic examples of comfort? Did you offer insights to things that comfort you? Was this prompt fun? Do share? Thank you! 🙂

Love the first pic! Real comfort! =) and the paella….. wow! makes me go hungry! =D

    • 12/10/2011 9:44 pm

Ty Viviene… that dish is making me hungry too. 🙂

  2. 13/10/2011 1:25 am

    greetings to your cat Tangy!

  3. 13/10/2011 4:04 am

It’s funny how we each see comfort differently. I would never have considered Janet Jackson’s shoes as comfort. I do like Tangy!

    • 13/10/2011 5:04 pm

😆 Actually, the high heel shoes with the platform lift in front are surprisingly comfy, even with those heels. I was emphasizing shoes that fit as comfortable first and then the shoes I had on file met my criteria. I took these at the JJ pre-concert meet. TY! 🙂

  4. 13/10/2011 5:28 am

Oh, your Paella looks also nice.I love the dessert the best.

    • 13/10/2011 5:05 pm

I love dessert too. I shot that at a market in France and it was quite good.. I think. TY! 🙂

  5. 13/10/2011 5:50 am

Now your just making me hungry. I loved the photo of the cat

    • 13/10/2011 5:06 pm

TY! That is our Tangy… he thinks he is a dog. 😆

  6. 13/10/2011 5:58 am

Tangy equals comfort in both photos but especially all tucked in! So cute. And that Nyala family definitely looks comfortable taking in the sun. I’m still desperate for one of those macaroons! The room at the top might be comfortable for gathering with friends to eat – as long as you are not the one who has to make sure those cushions stay white! Lovely photos!

    • 13/10/2011 5:08 pm

TY Karen and let me know when you come to NY and we’d go get some of those Laduree macarons… Promise. The room is at The Spice Market and is quite beautiful and the pillows soft and gorgeous… I won’t have to clean up and that is comforting too. 🙂

  7. 13/10/2011 6:20 am

I’m comfortable now. Not having to wear Janet Jackson’s shoes is definitely comforting. Great entry into the challenge! And, thank you very much for the pingback. 🙂

    • 13/10/2011 5:10 pm

TY too for you support and feedback. Zemanta offers the selection and I love when it actually offers me blog buddies… That would be comforting too. 🙂

A cup of coffee in the morning . . .
    A quiet snooze watching golf . . .
A dip in the pool followed by drying off in the sun . . .
    A hearty bowl of corn chowder . . .

Comfort abounds . . . as long as we are present to taste, touch, smell, hear, and sense it. Aah . . . that’s better.

    Thanks, E!

    • 13/10/2011 5:11 pm

Sounds good to me… I’d like some of that corn chowder with a dash of hot pepper and a glass of red wine. Delish! TY! 🙂

You have an amazing eye for true beauty filtered through a mellifluous heart….

    • 13/10/2011 5:12 pm

How poetic James… TY and mellifluous heart works for me any day.
Thanks for the compliment and visit. 🙂

    what a range of interpretations!

    • 19/10/2011 6:56 pm

      TY for your feedback… I don’t know how I skipped a comment… 🙂

  11. 13/10/2011 6:32 pm

Great photos, as usual! But I must say, while Janet Jackson’s shoes are Fabulous, they don’t look particularly comfortable- even if they have that platform lift… I’ve been getting comfortable in my new home, sorry I’ve been absent for a while!

    • 13/10/2011 7:55 pm

Glad to hear from you again Rosa! It has been a while and I miss your paintings… Do start your blog again and I pray that you settle in your new home soon. TY for your visit.
As per the shoes, I promise that the platforms are comfy. When I was flying all over the place, I had a pair that were fab, and I didn’t feel any pain because they made me feel like I was walking on an elevated bridge. I know you gotta try em to believe what I’m saying. TY! 🙂

  12. 13/10/2011 6:37 pm

Well, much better comfort photos than I could have possibly mustered! Love the jambalaya pic. And, geesh, why do cats always look so comfy?

  13. 13/10/2011 7:56 pm

😆 Our cat lives for comfy! He always looks for blankets, pillows, and boxes to curl up in… TY! 🙂

  15. 13/10/2011 10:34 pm

Love the pics on comfort food. Tomorrow for dinner, my partner and I are preparing Alaskan Crabs, New Zealand Mussels with Indian Masala, aspasgus, and Basamati rice….Comfort food indeed.

    Mmmm, yummy food!
I love those shoes but heels are definitely not comfortable, at least for me! LOL
Those animals sure do look comfy, though! 🙂

    • 14/10/2011 5:34 pm

Yes and I love those shoes too… and the food takes me back to the different days I ate them. TY! 🙂

  17. 14/10/2011 3:43 am

I had a cat named “tangy” who has passed on and it was a calico. My wiley looks like your tangy. Love the comfort photo’s you selected.

    • 14/10/2011 5:35 pm

Cool that we both had/have cats with the same name. TY for stopping in and I hope the job is going well. 🙂

TY David! I appreciate your comment. This was a fun challenge to do… The new one is going to require more thinking. 😆

  19. 14/10/2011 9:04 am

I have never seen a tapir before, but that’s adorable! I can’t wait to show Li’l D his first “tapir” tonight. 🙂

    • 14/10/2011 5:39 pm

Excellent! I hope he finds it cute. I took that shot at the Bronx Zoo and enjoyed watching the Tapir lolly gagging in their home… cute. TY! 🙂

We are surrounded by things that are comforting…we just need to open our eyes. BTW, soup is one of the most comforting things going and I love that you chose crawfish soup. It comforts my soul.

    • 19/10/2011 6:59 pm

TY Jeane! It was a great looking bowl of soup and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to capture it. 🙂

  22. 16/10/2011 1:51 am

I love those shoes, but I can’t for the life of me imagine them being comfortable! 😆

I love the shot of Tangy.

    • 19/10/2011 7:00 pm

Tangy says hello Robyn… Don’t worry, the shoes work for Janet and vicariously for me… 😆

  23. 23/10/2011 8:51 am

    Fabulous selection.
