Inspiration: Five Things To Be Thankful For Today…

30/09/2011

“A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all the other virtues.” Marcus Tullius Cicero

Inspiration: Five Things To Be Thankful For Today… A Thankful Tree…

Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will not be angry
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
Traditional Reiki Prayer from Dr Usui.

Life – Today, I am thankful for life; for without life nothing else matter.
Family – Today, I am thankful for family; for without the refuge and love from family we flounder.
Every day, we have an opportunity to pause and give thanks for the things that make our lives run smoothly. Even when we are having a bad day, we can stop, give thanks for the good around us, ask for resolution or a breakthrough in our situation, and then, open our hearts to a new experience. Actually, in difficult, dark times, the road to renewal is wider and the grace stronger. Sara Ban Breathnach wrote her bestseller, Simple Abundance, during a particularly challenging time in her life. Things were so rotten, she felt compelled to find a ray of light in her darkness; something she could be grateful for… What do you give thanks for today?

“Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.”  Albert Schweitzer

TODAY… I am Confident
and Strong.
TODAY… I am Happy
and Cheerful.
TODAY… I am Thankful for
ALL of my Blessings.
TODAY… I am Honest and Gentle
with Myself and Others.
TODAY… I am Kind
to Every Living thing.
Reiki Prayer from K. Scott Teeters

Friends – Today, I am thankful for all forms of friendship;for without the compassion and non-judgement of friends; close friends, bloggers, readers/visitors, and others, we might not see the road for the fog…
Health – Today, I am thankful for health; for without our health life’s challenges become greater.
In some cultures, when people recover from a life-threatening or long illness, the family holds a celebration party to express their gratitude. Illness can be quite debilitating, and most of us never think about it until we become quite ill. I want to thank my blog friends, blog readers and all my other friends for thei support; TY for the comments, blog awards here and also for the lessons learned from reading your blogs. The gift of friendship and good health are not to be taken lightly, as both sustain us and help us make meaning of our lives… While we are running around accumulating things, let’s pause and give thanks for these two special gifts.  More below… 🙂

“But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life; and thanks to a benevolent arrangement of things, the greater part of life is sunshine.” Thomas Jefferson

Inspiration: Five Things To Be Thankful For Today… Rest and be Thankful…

My Loving Father, today I bring You my worry, fear, and guilt
to place into Your Hands of Light.
As you accept my burdens, I feel the weight lift, and know that I start
each day a renewed person in Your everlasting Love.
Teach me to forgive myself and all others.
Teach me to accept myself as You do.
Teach me to Love as You do, unconditionally with compassion for all people.
Thank You Father for Your gift of life and Love.
Thank You for holding me safe and secure.
Thank You for being there when I need You.
Amen.

Music/An upcoming concert – Today, I am thankful for the music I will be enjoying, for without music, the world would be a silent place.                          Music is one of those artistic endeavors that all of us can find pleasure in. Our tastes and choices in music might differ, but it is a uniting medium. When we think of music, we think of something joyful and uplifting. Music makes me happy or as some might say, music adds to our happiness.. I will share the details of my concert another day; so in essence, I give thanks for the music today and every day. Again, What about you? What are your thoughts? What five things are you thankful for today? If you could offer your service today, what would you do something differently? Where would that be? Do share! Thank you. 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from WP Plinky: Share five things you’re thankful for.

Positive Motivation Tip: For every thank you/act of gratitude we offer, it reverberates and we receive hundreds more than we gave.

The human species has a great habit of wanting more and more, forgetting to be thankful for what they already have. The rest of the animal kingdom is not so greedy. 🙂

I am thankful for lots of things……….. most of the time. I’ll admit I can be like any other human and sometimes wish I had………… well, specifically right now, a bigger house!

    • 02/10/2011 1:14 am

Hey Robyn, There’s nothing wrong with wishing or wanting a bigger home. You do need it as the family has expanded. Now all you need is a home search, some funding, a touch/sprinkle of luck and the home will find its way to you at the right price. Now, what are you thankful for today… ? TY! 🙂

This is a wonderful passage. To live in a state of grace, of gratitude.

    Thanks for an inspiring post.

    • 02/10/2011 1:18 am

TY for your comment. I do love that comment too and the state of grace idea is equally beautiful. 🙂

  11. 01/10/2011 6:22 pm

It is a good idea to contemplate what we are thankful for. All the little things add up to quite a bit when you put it all together. Thanks for a thoughtful post.

    • 02/10/2011 1:24 am

TY Miriam… You are right about the small mercies that add up to huge blessings. If we start with gratitude for the small things, we see them grow… You know, I was at a recent workshop wit Louise Hay of You Can Heal Your Life fame, and she said that every day when she wakes up, she begins her prayers with an expression of gratitude for her bed and then continues from there… that is so Beautiful.
Now I thank my bed in addition to everything else I thank… and yes, when I drive my car, I thank it too for getting me safely to my destination… 🙂

Today, I am thankful for life; for without life nothing else matter. This is so true, when we stop to take a look, this is all that matters. Very inspiring post !

  13. 02/10/2011 7:48 am

Yay for reminders to always be thankful! 🙂

  14. 03/10/2011 3:37 am

It’s hard to limit myself to five, but these are five for which my gratitude is especially profound:
    * My son
    * Motherhood (still fresh in my mind after yesterday’s Farrell’s trip!)
    * My home
    * My job
    * Lattes! (Granted, I’m trying to decrease my reliance on those these days, hee)

    • 03/10/2011 5:04 pm

Great choices… the Lattes was a surprise. Do you really drink that much of it? Yours or from outside? TY for your comment! 🙂

      • 03/10/2011 7:42 pm

I’m only trying to drink one of them a week now (either for a Monday boost or a Friday celebration), but there was a 5-6 week period where I was having them every day. The temporary “woo!” was far too short lived to justify the longer term “ugh.” 🙂

  15. 03/10/2011 6:28 pm

Beautiful post as usual, Elizabeth. We have so much to be thankful for!

I want to be thankful for basically the same things you’re grateful for. I am grateful for my LIFE and the chance to still better my existence in this world. FAMILY and FRIENDS who make life more meaningful. The chance to LOVE someone and be loved, even if relationships are not always easy. And lastly, I want to express gratefulness for the opportunity to SERVE as a dentist for the Lord.

There are many things everyone should be thankful for. It is really too bad that people are so focused on things they don’t have and bringing other people down to try to make themselves feel better.
