When we think about it, all of life is about entrances and exits… We enter the world at birth and then we exit at the end of life. Throughout our time on earth, we take hundreds of thousands of entrances and exits for things; grand and small. We seek comfort behind the doors of our homes, offices, hearts and other things that help us live our lives peacefully. So this exercise is a terrific one for us from the WP Daily Post. If you’ve noticed my avatar, you will recognize the orange doors…. yes, they belong to a beautiful temple in Kyoto. I took it on a foggy day so we can’t quite capture the brilliant shade of orange; it was a magnificent door. All Saints was the first church to welcome free blacks in lower Manhattan so that door has great history.

Another thing to consider is that there are all kinds of entrances; each signifying a particular entity or place; a home entrance, a museum, a church, a courtyard, and on and on… Entrances range from the nondescript to the notable, from the subtle to the sublime. Each entrance carries its history with it and tells a story about what came before and what is the current fashion at said location… Entrances, like personalities, speak volumes about its occupants and its uses. The NY Botanical garden underground passageway was like a twilight zone scene; quite beautiful and cooling. The Memorial entrance is made of glass and you can see yourself when you reach the doors and look up at the entrance.

When I look at my selections, I see that I am drawn to certain types of entrances and while they might not mean much to the viewer, there was something about each of them that spoke to me. Something made me lift that camera and take a snapshot for posterity… I look at the pictures I’ve chosen and memories come flooding in… not all good; but memories nonetheless. La Tapisserie de Bayeux is a gorgeous entryway on a side street and enter a courtyard with the boat in the middle and cobblestone everywhere… takes you back in time.

As the saying goes, when one door closes, another door opens. So, we must not spend too much time wallowing at the door of an old conversation that exhausted itself many moons ago. We can and must learn to open mew doors, to look at new possibilities… and only then would the doors reveal their rich gifts and secrets to us… The Bronx Zoo entry led to the reptiles, I think, and those beautiful doors to the homes in Cambridge bring back memories again… good ones. “We enter the world at birth and then we exit at the end of life.” A beautiful message yet sad at the same time. When there’s a birth in the family, we all rejoice but when someone we care about dies, we mourn, even up to this day when we think about them. It also reminds us that one day, we too have to exit and leave our love ones , and that makes my heart feel like it’s going to break. Each of the photos are wonderful to look at. Each is unique with it’s own rich story to tell. A great post as always. Thank you for sharing them to us. Stay blessed.

We enter the world at birth and then we exit at the end of life. Throughout our lifetime we enter and exit many doors, some we find new beginnings, and others we close. I really enjoyed reading this post. Very nice photos ! Yes, when one door closes another door opens. Each opening is unique in its own little way, as we learn many lessons, and endure many experiences through these doors. Life is short, live-love-pray, enjoy what time we have here on earth.
