Humor: Laughter Matters…

Laughter is definitely the best medicine for us and it is healthy to find things to laugh about daily. It is also important that we remember some of the benefits of laughter and then seek and add humor to our lives. When I created this blog, I named it Mirth and Motivation because I wanted to find ways to share humor while facing life’s many challenges, and seek meaningful ways to handle life’s daily stresses… Humor is healthy; everyone deserves a daily dose of laughter.

Stripper Beware
Five girlfriends went to a Ladies Night Club. One girl, eager to impress the rest, pulled out a $10 bill and when the male stripper/dancer came dancing, she licked the $10 bill and stuck it to his right butt cheek! Another girlfriend pulled out a $20 bill, waved the stripper back over, licked the $20 bill, and stuck it on his other butt cheek. Not to be outdone, the third girlfriend pulled out a $50 bill, winked at the stripper, licked the bill, and slowly and teasingly stuck it on his left butt cheek. The stripper, now feeling bold and encouraged by the applause of other patrons, gyrated over to the fourth girlfriend! Everyone was watching and cheering, all eyes were on her, with the male stripper egging her on to top the $50. She reached for her wallet… What to do? Then the marketing genius in her took over! She took out her ATM card, swiped it down the crack of his arse, grabbed the 80 bucks, and went home…

I get quite a bit of humorous email from friends and family and, from time to time, I’ll share some with you. Did you know that a good laugh is:
♥Like an internal massage for our organs and our mind; it helps us connect our outward display of joy with an inner feeling of happiness; plus we get to exercise our facial muscles, shoulders, diaphragm, and even our abs; with the added cardiovascular and respiratory benefits.

“To make mistakes is human; to stumble is commonplace; to be able to laugh at yourself is maturity.” William Arthur Ward

The Family Fortune
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.
When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune.
One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Her natural beauty took his breath away. “I may look like just an ordinary guy,” he said to her, “But in just a few years my father will die and I will inherit $200 million.”  Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother.

♥Laughter helps us relieve stress (reduces cortisol) through the release of endorphins; strengthens our immune system against infection and helps us build up disease antibodies; it increases our blood flow by stimulating activity and helps our body handle challenges.
To keep you laughing, I have added some humorous pieces above and below. Enjoy! 🙂

“Try as much as possible to be wholly alive, with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell and when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.” William Saroyan

Humor: Laughter Matters... The laughing donkey replies...

Would You Run from Church if this Happened to You?
One Sunday morning during service; a 2,000 member congregation was surprised to see 2 men enter… both covered from head to toe in black and carrying sub machine guns.
One of them announced, “Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ, stay where you are!”   Immediately, the choir fled, the deacons fled, and most of the congregation fled too. Of the 2,000 church members, only 20 remained…
The man who had spoken, took off his hood, he then looked at the preacher and said, “Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites, now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!”

♥Laughter helps us enhance our social interactions; it builds team spirit, good relationships, serves as an ice breaker; and helps us reduce stress. It is the best free medicine with no side effects.
It is detrimental to our health to walk around with long, sad faces. A bit of humor can brighten any gray day and we owe it to ourselves to seek it.

“If I were give the opportunity to present a gift to the next generation, it would be the ability for each person to laugh at himself.” Charles M. Schultz

Humor: Laughter Matters... Have a good laugh...

In the News – No Kidding
Ocularpation
This morning, 50 people descended on Wall Street in NY, stripped naked for 5 minutes and then got dressed and left. It was the artistic vision of Zefrey Throwell; to protest the lack of transparency on Wall Street.  An observer, Angel, said, “It didn’t look like art. People do that all the time on the subway.”
Woman Fined For Truck Nutz
A South Carolina woman; who faces a $445 fine,  will go to trial to let a jury decide whether the fake over-sized testicles hanging off the back of her truck are obscene… Yep, Don’t ask. 😆

Everyday, life presents us with opportunities to laugh… and perhaps cry. One way to cope is to be able to laugh at ourselves. Don’t give up that chance at a little or a lot of laughter.. Our lives depend on it. What about you? What are your thoughts? What makes you laugh? Do you have a joke to share? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: Shake off the cobwebs and add some humor to your life…

I’m still back with the marketing genius swiping her ATM card. I busted out laughing. I’m still chuckling….
I always forget the punch lines — definitely could not be a comedian.
True story: when we were kids, my city cousins would come spend the summers with us (the country cousins). One Sunday evening, we went to a concert at church. Our family had a pew but when we went without our parents or older family members, we sat in the back.
Anyway, in the middle of the concert, something caught my eye and I looked mid-pew to where my young (maybe 9/10 at the time?) was sitting. As I looked over, I noticed that she was wiping her face with a nice wad of paper — it was summer and hot! I couldn’t believe she’d taken so much toilet paper with her and decided I’d have to have a word after the concert. But as I turned away, I realized that this wasn’t any rolled up wad of toilet paper. It was shaped evenly and had what looked like little flaps at the ends. I burst out laughing as it hit me — it was a sanitary napkin! All hell broke loose as my other cousins looked in my direction and saw the napkin in her hand. Everyone started laughing, including my young cousin, even though she had no idea why we were laughing. So as not to disrupt the concert and have one of the adults shushing us, I ran out to the vestry and everyone else, including my poor young cousin, followed. Poor thing had no idea why we were laughing. To this day, I still laugh when I think about it.

What a riot…. I love that story and to think that she never cottoned on. The best part is that she joined in the laughter too… Hysterical! 😆

It has always seemed to me that hearty laughter is a good way to jog internally without having to go outdoors.
    – Norman Cousins

    • 02/08/2011 1:23 am

I’d say… and we could all use some internal jogging! TY! 🙂

Great post, Eliz! A sense of humor is one of the most important attributes we can cultivate…and laughter IS good for our health! People can tell if you are smiling, even if they cannot see you…so when we answer the phone, we need to put a smile on our face. When you smile, your entire posture lifts…and when you frown, your shoulders will slump…it’s really amazing!

    • 02/08/2011 2:11 am

I concur that humor is important and that when we smile on the phone, the energy is conveyed.
Glad to see you here… long time, no see. How are you doing of late? TY! 🙂

The ATM card story is a classic! Dapper G and I always get silly when we are sitting around late at night talking about the events of the day–it keeps us connected.

Brilliant! I hope you are getting some rest and relaxation during the last days of the summer?. TY! 🙂

  17. 02/08/2011 5:59 pm

He deserves paradise who makes his companions laugh. ~ Koran

    • 05/09/2011 2:48 pm

Yes, indeed the cat is one of our highlights of the evening… LOL! 🙂

  18. 02/08/2011 8:40 pm

Loved this post, as humor is my middle name. I find humor is the best medicine, for its laughter that gets us through, even the deepest of our trials. Laughing at myself, has always been an added attraction to any situation I find myself in. I have found being around someone who doesn’t find humor a part of every day living, seem to be so unhappy with life, as well as themselves. Cry-we cry alone-Laugh and the world smiles back to us. Enjoy life, live our best, and always carry a smile ! 🙂

    • 05/09/2011 2:50 pm

Yes, people who can’t find humor in life are kinda scary … it takes effort and practice to see the jokes in the mundane and use them to grow…
      I love a humorous mind… TY! 🙂

  19. 03/08/2011 8:20 am

All very good. The ATM card one I’ve seen a few times and it always gives me a giggle. As for the church, well, I wouldn’t be in there in the first place, but it makes me laugh (the joke, not the church).

    The cat is so cute!

    • 05/09/2011 2:52 pm

      TY Robyn,
My sis sent the church one and it truly is apropos… humor and hypocrisy are not good friends… but we can get the important message from it. I love the ATM joke and it still make me laugh. 🙂

  20. 03/08/2011 11:42 am

Great jokes! I especially liked the stripper/ATM joke. I will definitely pass these on to some friends who need to giggle. Miriam

    • 05/09/2011 2:53 pm

Yes and I did same… TY for stopping by Miriam! 🙂
