Reflections: Feeling The Glow Of Love…

28/07/2011

“A man reserves his true and deepest love not for the species of woman in whose company he finds himself electrified and enkindled, but for that one in whose company he may feel tenderly drowsy.” George Jean Nathan

Reflections: Feeling The Glow Of Love… floating up and glowing brightly

Betty Wright – Tonight Is The Night

Diana RossLove Hangover

When was the last time you felt like you were glowing with the deepest joy and walking on air? Better yet, where were you when you heard  Tonight Is The NightLove Hangover  or  The Glow of Love? How about …. name your in-the-mood-for-love song? Flowers blooming, bodies gyrating, wine sipping, music blasting, and there you are drowsy with love with a huge grin on your face… go back there. How, you may ask?  Start with the memorable music that took you there, kick off your high heels, hike up your skirt, and slowly move those hips, arms, shoulders, and feet, till you feel that tingly sensation flowing right through your veins, and then smile… What was his name? her name? What was that first rapturous kiss like? (not your first lousy kiss, honey) … and the rest? You are there already!

“Absence diminishes mediocre passions and increases great ones, as the wind extinguishes candles and fans fires.”  Francois de La Rochefoucauld

Reflections: Feeling The Glow Of Love… it is in the music and in us…

Change – The Glow Of Love

You see, blasting our amps with the right music has the power to bring back that glowing love magic, and take us back to memorable moments in our lives when even our friends wondered what drug we had imbibed; we hadn’t. Nonesuch. Self love, like Love in a romantic liaison, is intoxicating and we can tap into that space/place with the flick of a switch, the right music, song, story, and heck, the presence of the right kind of joyful energy. Some of us are stuck on what others would think and so we starve ourselves of the sheer joy of being human with real needs and feelings.

Quite frankly my dear, no one really gives damn so get on up and do your thing; start with the music, the dance, the smile, and watch yourself transform into whomever you desire to be…  200 times over.   Instead of sitting around waiting for Ms./Mr. Goodbar to drop in with her/his shit, go create your own joy and then watch happens next.  Will the glow dissipate? No, unless you stop affirming yourself, your goals, and your desires. Now get to it! What do you think? More below… 😉

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. Lao Tzu

Donna Summer  –  Love To Love You Baby

The first time I heard this song, at a party in London, I was pretty young and thought Donna Summer had lost her mind to play something so intimate in such a public way… but as we listened to it, it sparked a hilarious conversation and got everybody laughing; albeit in embarrassment for some of us. Soon, we had discarded our pretensions and silly rigidities and had some of the best conversations about the male/female dynamic that I had ever had… We spent the rest of the evening enjoying the party and dancing the night away … our humanity shone through and we sure had that easy feeling of the glow of love. What about you? What are your thoughts? When did you first experience the glow of love? What sensations did you feel? Do you remember listening to these songs? Do share! Thank you. 😉

    • 29/07/2011 12:40 am

Yep! And so do I… I’m still dancing and glowing. TY for the fastest feedback! 😆

      • 29/07/2011 9:43 am

“…fastest feedback” – I’ve begun to feel embarrassed about being one of the first, but your new posts pop up as I’m doing my morning email check :-/ Of course I’ve got to have a look, and then…

      • 29/07/2011 9:17 pm

I appreciate the feedback… and sometimes I’m the first on other bloggers page… not a problem at all. 🙂 Thanks again for the support and I love your blog too.

I finally gave in to the cold that has been plaguing me and stayed home. I was sleeping when the phone rang – a marketing call – and as I sat here angry I had been woken from my slumbers on a day when I am trying to take care of myself, your tweet flicked up on my screen.

I just love this and am now sitting here with the songs on replay. I also reblogged it – too good not too! Just wonderful!

    • 29/07/2011 12:45 am

      Robyn,
I hope you get better soon… which I think you will by the time you finish dancing to your songs on replay… 🙂 One of the songs showed up on YouTube as I listening to some shit or the other and thinking about a 200 or more times post. The song brought back a flood of very powerful memories… I had fun with this post, I must admit.
Glad you liked it too. TY! 🙂

  3. 29/07/2011 12:48 am

This post was so much fun! Great way to end my day!!! Thanks.

TY Ange, glad you loved it… I had fun with it too… Do you remember your first love song? 🙂

While I waited for my niece – we were going to see Midnight in Paris – I watched a young couple doing the mating dance. She stood holding on to a tree, he facing her. At first, I couldn’t tell whether they were already an item or just feeling each other out. Then he touched her navel area. There was such a tentativeness to it, I could tell it was the first time he’d done so. She leaned in and pecked him on the lips. Ahh, young love, I thought.
Love is so all consuming, I tell myself I’m happy where I am right now, in love with myself and my ideas. Less complication, I’m kind of in control. I struggle to remember. Actually, sometimes I don’t want to. I haven’t found the balance between love for someone else and love for what I do.
Anyway, I’m trying to remember my first crush. Gosh, who was it again?
Love songs speak to me but they take on a fuller meaning when someone is attached to it. And while I’m telling myself I don’t know where those memories are, this came back to me. It’s probably 20 degrees below and Major Harris’ song fills the car and warms us up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQAFluMiwIo
Years later, new city, new love and Jill Scott becomes our anthem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCerHrqWQkQ
Love’s a beautiful thing. Years ago, a metaphysical teacher told me that the secret to everything is love (I’m paraphrasing) but she’s right.
    Nice post,
    Marcia

    • 29/07/2011 4:44 am

You said it beautifully… I can relate, yet love is everything we do and believe and ultimately stand for. 🙂 TY!

  5. 29/07/2011 4:41 am

Diana Ross, Donna Summer – they electrified me – but not Amy Winehouse 1983-2011, now in the “club of 27” like JANIS JOPLIN + JIM MORRISON (The Doors) + KURT COBAIN (Nirvana) + JIMI HENDRIX

    • 29/07/2011 4:46 am

I love them all, my dear friend. How are you Frizztext? How’s the show? Dying to hear about it… 😉

  6. 29/07/2011 5:55 am

What I aways enjoy about human emotions are that they are played out in harmonies. Most of the time we feel love in company with a host of other emotions. It is the harmonies which make those monents of love so precious

    • 29/07/2011 9:22 pm

Indeed they add to the total experience and make for all the dizzying and drowsy memories we recall. I appreciate the feedback TY! 🙂

How befitting! My iPod is currently in shuffle mode and when I came to check out your post, it played “When I Fall In Love” by Celine Dion and Clive Griffon. Such a sweet, sweet love song.

    • 29/07/2011 9:27 pm

Yes, it is beautiful and I thought of many other songs… But you know how it is, we choose the ones that really rocked it for us and then savor those moments until we get to the next set. I love music… 🙂

I have to learn some further guitar lessons now:

I became like Diana Ross.Thank you for sharing.:)

    • 29/07/2011 9:28 pm

Oh, that is funny! I love her music too. 🙂

  10. 29/07/2011 9:23 am

Cool post. I always thought that song by Al Green “Let’s Stay Together:” was great for gettin’ it on. Cheers!

    • 29/07/2011 9:29 pm

Yeah, I remember Al quite well… He was quite the singer and I agree that the song above adds something special to our glow. TY! 😉

Such good advice. (BTW, d@rk @angel–love your qr code. I’ll be teaching my fifth graders how to make them next year).

    • 29/07/2011 9:31 pm

TY Jacqui! I’m glad you liked the music and advice… I need it too. 😆

  12. 29/07/2011 11:20 am

One of my faves: Wild Horses (Rolling Stones).
And Slow Dancing, Swaying to the Music.

    • 29/07/2011 9:33 pm

Yep, that was a good one too… dancing, swaying, we all need more of that and I’m all for it TY! 🙂

  13. 29/07/2011 3:12 pm

I remember “Love Hangover”! The Glow of Love…hmmm…well, I recently wrote a personal essay about my first crush. I’ll probably see him in a couple weeks at a reunion and he may very well get a copy of it! But we were kids. As in 5th grade kids. 😀 The first person I loved is still one of my best friends to this day. Our paths cross and diverge and cross again. We’ve known each other for about 30 years now. He might challenge me on this point but I think “our song” was “An Innocent Man” by Billy Joel.

In my lifetime, I’ve had 6 loves, and there’s a song for every one of them.

    1. Magnet and Steel (Walter Egan, I think??)
    2. An Innocent Man (Billy Joel)
    3. These Dreams (Heart)/With Or Without You (U2)
    4. Quiet Heart (The Go-Betweens)
    5. I Can’t Fight this Feeling (REO Speedwagon)/Wherever You Will Go (The Calling)…same guy, we dated twice, several years in between 😉
    6. Follow You Follow Me (Genesis)

But even outside romantic relationships, there’s that Glow of Love that just makes you want to hug anything or anyone that doesn’t know to get out of the way, lol. And I think “These are the Days” by Jodee Messina.

    Keep sharing the love!

    Elizabeth

    • 29/07/2011 9:35 pm

Whoa, I’m impressed by your list… Quite a varied selection. Thanks for taking the time to reminisce with us here. I love music because it brings back our memories using all of the senses. Love it TY! 🙂

  14. 29/07/2011 3:27 pm

Oh I remember all those great sexy songs Elizabeth. Such a fun post.

This has nothing to do with love in the way you’re talking here but I wanted to share this with you… I first saw Keb Mo when he opened for Bonnie Raitt. About a year later I discovered my youngest son (who was about 36 at the time) was a huge Keb Mo fan. He loves blues. Anyway… he sent me some of his music and this particular song just makes me want to get up and dance every time I hear it.

The reason I said this has nothing to do with love in the way you’re talking here is because my son and I danced to this at his wedding 😀

    enjoy

    • 29/07/2011 9:36 pm

It’s a lovely song Barb and sure makes one want to dance joyfully. Thanks for sharing the video. I’m always open to hear new stuff. TY! 🙂

  15. 29/07/2011 4:09 pm

Eliz, the music always brings me back to a happy place. I think my favorite is Donna Summers. Yes she was personal, but she made me dance too. Thanks for making me smile 😀

    • 29/07/2011 9:37 pm

Donna was amazing with that song and we haven’t seen the like of it since. I wish she’d put a new album out … but life does move forward. TY! 🙂

  16. 29/07/2011 9:16 pm

Great tunes !! I’m still swaying to the beat ! Thanks for sharing !! 🙂

    • 29/07/2011 9:24 pm

I hear you… me too. I was thrilled to discover that Betty Wright is still around and making music… She sang that song at quite a young age. TY! 🙂

  17. 30/07/2011 2:10 pm

Geez, feeling a little vulnerable and embarassed/shy! Loved the looking back with the music selelctions, Eliz. But I’m remembering Boz Scaggs–Silk Degrees album. Yeah, I remember that moment well.

    • 31/07/2011 8:20 am

Oh don’t worry, you are in good company… I remember Boz Scaggs too in London. They were were quite the group… Wow, time does fly and now we have memories of hose heady days. TY! 🙂
