Musings: On Yearnings…

16/07/2011

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Musings: On Yearnings… Yearning Law... longing for simpler times and things...

What do you yearn for? What flits through your mind when you have a moment to pause? What wistful thoughts rise from your heart after a long day meeting life’s challenges? We all have yearnings and while we might not spend much time lingering over them, we do visit that place to reflect and to reconnect with our dreams… What message is yearning inside of me? I know that when I think of things I desire they include clarity in all things, peace, joy, world peace and love… But I looked at the prompt again and I have other simple yearnings that I’d love to share.

#Trust30 is an online initiative and 30-day writing challenge. The #Trust30 Prompt:“I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson. What message is yearning inside you? What is something you know deep in your soul? Don’t look for someone else to describe it. You do it. Write it down. Write it as a poem, a sentence or even just a string of words. Just make sure you get it to paper.

What I know deep in my heart is that we live in an abundant world with enough to feed and clothe everyone. Yet, we also live in a world where greed makes it difficult for all to enjoy the fruits of our Mother Earth. When I look around me and I see the inequities, the violence, the wickedness that arises from fear and covetousness, I yearn for a world that shares its wealth equitably and where the doors to success are not exclusive to the few. I yearn for a simpler world where good always prevails over evil. I yearn for a world where people truly help each other from the goodness of their hearts not for public recognition or ulterior motivation.

Musings: On Yearnings… yearning for pleasurable places in nature

What simple things do I yearn for? I yearn for a time when life was simple and burdens light. I yearn for the touch of a gentle breeze from the ocean. I yearn for go-cart days and skipping rope. I yearn for days when hurtful words and spiteful acts are replaced by consideration and compassion. I yearn for the days when friendships are based on mutual respect and care not adulation and manipulation.

I love quotations as they can say in fewer words thoughts i share in long paragraphs. I yearn for a time when we can look into each others eyes and see our shared humanity. I yearn for the day I can knock on your door and ask for help without being attacked because of my ethnicity. I yearn for the moment when my tears are tears of joy because, in your success,  I have seen the future of mine.  What about you? What are your thoughts? What do you yearn for? Do you find time to reflect and shape those yearnings? Do share! Thank you. 😉

This post was inspired by a prompt from RalphWaldoEmerson.me: “I hate quotations.

Sometimes I yearn for the years when my children were young even though at the end of a tiring day I used to long for the day when they would be grown up!

I hear you Chris! Now that mine are off to college, I yearn for their toddler years with play dates and rhyming songs… 8) 🙂

    Wonderful examples! 🙂

Thank you for that thoughtful piece of writing. It makes you think!
Unfortunately all that you are yearning for is perfection and alas we do not live in a perfect world and we never will..
What do I yearn for… world peace and world love

The greatest danger for me: music. It makes me wrong.
The greatest chance: Meditation, diving into the well of my memories.

I would say I yearn for summer! I just finished my 1,5 weeks of vacation and hadn’t really had one nice day. Some sun is more than welcome out here! Except for that, I’m really pretty happy with all the love and friendship I have in my life

    A related quote:

To be nobody but yourself ~ in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else ~ means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. ~ e.e.cummings

I yearn for lazy summer days hanging at the beach, eating fresh fruit and drinking lemonade.
Now life is one big rush…

What do I yearn for? A hug from my mother or just to hear her voice one more time.

Lately I’ve been yearning for the inner calm I can sometimes achieve. It’s been a hectic and emotional summer and I need to STOP… get back to being in the moment and relax. It’s harder than it seems when you want it so badly. But, that’s what I yearn for right now.

I hope you are experiencing your inner peace my friend.

I yearn for entries like this, as well as for those items you refer to as yearned for. So much.

Somedays, I yearn for my mom’s touch; on those days, I enjoy embracing my own son and knowing that connection is the same my mom once shared with me.

I yearn for the thrill of overseas travel again. I set aside a little of the money my mom left me for that purpose. She was never able to travel, so it seems fitting that I should use a little of what she left me to go to Denmark, home of her forebears and a place she’d always wanted to visit. In that way, I feel like her yearning to see more of the world will come closer to being fulfilled, if not in the way she herself dreamed they might be.

I yearn for love and peace in the world. My brother passed away peacefully a few days ago, he is now without pain and sickness. To be thankful for each breath we take, and each day we have left on this earth. Live joyfully and without regrets. When good people leave this earth-they will be missed by many. My yearning right now, is to embrace life and be thankful.

I think yearning is part of living. And I don’t mean that in a bad way. Even when we have our happiest or most peaceful and insightful moments, a tiny part of us yearns that those moments could last forever.

I yearn for love. Love for all human beings, that we all learn to love each other. To continue our self destruction, our wars is so wrong.

“I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

That really hit me because I am not one of those people who can remember quotations at the drop of a hat. I have to look up quotations if I want to use any.

Now I don’t feel so bad about it!

You know I LOVE quotes! they are displayed ALL.OVER.MY.HOUSE and the focus of all my framed projects. Many i do not remember off the top of my head so I have a collection I keep on my computer that I add to quite regularly…. If I see one or hear one when I am out and about I quickly send an email to myself documenting the saying so as not to forget it!

You struck a chord here, Eliz.. Sometimes I feel that I am carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. What do I yearn for? World peace, ending hunger & poverty, new immigration laws, saving endangered plants & animals–see what I mean?

Great post for reflection. If I was to pick one thing it would be for a more positive world. Good news on the news rather than news of famine and war. Happy families rather than brickering over things that really don’t matter.

Thanks for the post certainly got my attention!
