Inspiration: Ten Reasons To Live Wisely…

02/07/2011

“I do not wish to expiate, but to live. My life is for itself and not for a spectacle. I much prefer that it should be of a lower strain, so it be genuine and equal, than that it should be glittering and unsteady. I wish it to be sound and sweet, and not to need diet and bleeding.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Inspiration: Ten Reasons To Live Wisely... value life in all forms...

Every day, we have the choice to meet the world with our game face on or with a nasty attitude. Some days, we wake up with a joyful spirit and it is easy to be and stay positive. Other days, we might wake up cranky and then it takes effort to re-direct our emotions and change our mood. No matter how we wake up or what we do about it, one thing is important; choose your mood and live wisely. What ten reasons can we muster to help us live wisely?

#Trust30 is an online initiative and 30-day writing challenge. The #Trust30 Prompt: Think about the type of person you’d NEVER want to be 5 years from now. Write out your own personal recipe to prevent this from happening and commit to following it. “Thought is the seed of action.”

Health – negativity affects our health and to maintain it we need to care about our thoughts and interactions with others.
♥ Family – divisiveness in families creates a lot of strife. Be a peacemaker so five years from now there is more to celebrate
♥ Friends – friends are golden and we must care for our friendships with honesty and compassion. A cruel act ends friendships and trust is a hard emotion to rebuild.

Since everything we do carries energy and adds to our memory bank of events, we must be careful what we hold onto and how we choose to conduct our lives. We don’t want, five years from now, to have a pocket full of lousy memories of people we hurt, and things we didn’t accomplish because we were furious or cranky…  Starting above and then below are ten reasons to help us live wisely and avoid becoming the type of person who’d make you shudder.

“It is impossible to live a pleasant life without living wisely and well and justly. And it is impossible to live wisely and well and justly without living a pleasant life.” Epicurus

Inspiration: Ten Reasons To Live Wisely... Justice...

Self-awareness – as we learn to value the rights of others, we become aware of our interconnections with all things. With self awareness comes an appreciation for life and our role in it.
Optimism – If we replace our pessimism with an optimistic view of the world around us, our latter years will be filled with good memories; much better than gloom and doom.
♥ Hobbies/Interests – While we can admire and imitate the efforts of others, it is best to develop our own interests and feed our imagination with our stories, and our creative impulses/effort.
♥ Peace of Mind – It is never a good idea to live indefinitely and vicariously through others… or to not live in the present; in the moment. For our peace of mind, we must lead by example and be at peace with where we are going in our own lives.

When we make the effort to be less judgmental of others, we open our doors and hearts to new opportunities; making new friends and acquaintances, learning a new skill or connecting with beneficial information that can help us continue to grow. Five years from now, we want to have the skills and tools to maintain equilibrium under all circumstances…

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.”  Gautama Buddha

Inspiration: Ten Reasons To Live Wisely... Sparkle where you are...

♥ Wisdom of experience – If we act with fairness and care, our experiences are expanded and wisdom grows.
♥ Good Memories – Good memories come from positive interactions with others… We choose our actions and must be vigilant.
♥ Happiness & No Regrets – Our happiness is a choice. If we choose to work at curtailing any tendencies that adversely affect our joy, we will build our happiness bone and then life is with no regrets.

If we are able to avoid worry and distraction over situations we can’t control, we will thrive. Living wisely means living consciously, avoiding petty conflicts and being happy with our lot; as is. we add sparkle to our lives by the actions we choose. We can be upbeat or weighed down with heaviness. Find your inner sparkle and share it… What about you? What are your thoughts? What will you do to ensure your five year review is one you are proud of? Do you find yourself tempted by negative distractions and how do you resolve it? Do share! Thank you. 😉

Positive Motivation Tip: Seek the path of wisdom as you live your life. All we do comes back to us ten fold…

You are so right that our attitudes shape our health and our world. I think it’s hardest when we are in our dark hours but we have to have that part of us that wants to find the happiness again. Once you know that’s inside of you, you can go on. Sometimes, it’s not easy but everything is interconnected and I pray for those who still need the nudge to find the happy again. (Love the photo of the sparkler!) 🙂

TY Karen and I agree with your point of view, we must want it badly enough to pursue it… Some don’t know how or even care.

I’m happy with my life at the moment but there’s room for improvement — I know there’s more to my life than this. So my goal for the next 5+ years is to get clear, to trust more so I can be the person I’m meant to be.
    Thanks for this, Elizabeth!

I remember hearing about twins. The parents were a gambler and an alcoholic, so their childhood was miserable and a struggle. One became a successful merchant banker, the other became a homeless alcoholic like his mother. They were both asked why their lives had taken the paths they had. Both answered: “What choice did I have?”

I’ve always thought this an interesting story. I do not remember where I heard it, or when, but I have never forgotten it.

Over the years I have learned to become more self-aware–this is important for me. What I do have to work on is the family relationships–never had a good relationship with my sister and time is running short . . . To me, living wisely also includes not living beyond my means, being kinder to the Earth and all its creatures.

I used to be so negative that it’s really easy for me to look back on my history and say, “Never again.” I definitely have not hit my target of “never,” but by being conscious of the choice I have moved myself so much closer to being consistently, thankfully positive.

I used to believe that positivity was a sign of lesser intellect. (This was when I was a teen.) I was miserable, but weren’t all smart people? (Yes, this is the kind of deep insight I shared with my journal.) I then noticed that the folks around me who were happy weren’t actually in any way less intelligent than those around me who not only chose but wallowed in hard feels, which made me wonder how I’d feel if I, too, tried being more positive.

The answer? Awesome. Awesome was how I felt. And saying “sorry”? It’s an excellent bridge for the times where I, as a fallible human being, fall short.

I may never hit the target perfectly, but it’s sure a blessing to strive toward. 🙂

    Lovely, inspiring entry!

Life is less challenging when we remember to smile. 😀

    Have a wonderful day!

“For our peace of mind, we must lead by example and be at peace with where we are going in our own lives.”…..and I might also add, be at peace with where we are now. I truly believe that we are where we are meant to be, but the trick here is our choice of how we deal with our nows, our daily choices.
    Thought provoking post. Thanks.

It always comes back to ‘live in the moment’ doesn’t it Eliz? To be fully present and maintain a positive outlook. Not always easy but worth striving for.
    Great post! thanks!

    Always helpful. Always…
I like this part a lot, “If we are able to avoid worry and distraction over situations we can’t control, we will thrive”.

I grew up in a house of negativety. I thought the way we thought was the only way and how everyone thought and that everyone was basically miserable or putting on a mask of happy.

Thankfully, I learned that is not the only way to think and be! Life is not always what we want it to be but we can choose to respond positively rather than react negatively.

I found you though twitter and I am glad I did. Turning the negative to the positive might not be easy, but you are so right that it is necessary to remain healthy. I have always loved Ralph Waldo Emerson and what a wonderful tribute this post is to him.
