Do you love traveling? Would you love to visit some amazing sites before you leave this world? Traveling to other countries and cultures helps us appreciate the diversity and richness of our world; it ultimately helps us build connections even friendships with others. If, like me, you love to travel, there are probably a bunch of places you’d still love to visit in this lifetime. From the Seven Wonders of The World, to the Seven Natural Wonders, and the list of 911 World Heritage Sites, we can find enough places on earth, on every continent, that will take our breath away and remind us that we live on a remarkable planet. More below! 🙂

If there is one place in the world you could visit, what will you do to make sure you get there? This is the #Trust30 prompt for today, and it got me thinking beyond finding one special spot to stir my soul. There are so many wonderful places that remind me of the beauty and magic of our planet and I have chosen twenty spots that make my soul sing and that I would love everyone to see in this lifetime. Creating a list of twenty wasn’t easy because, worldwide, there are many breath-taking sites to visit; both natural and man-made. Perhaps that is why I love UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites because it includes places many of us have never heard of, and it takes into consideration places “of special cultural or physical significance.”

Kick back and enjoy the many photos on my chosen list… There were a few more I wanted to add, and I have added them at the end. So, technically, this is a 20+ list. Enjoy! How do you travel? Even if you don’t enjoy traveling, there are probably amazing sites local to your area that you can visit and enjoy. As the saying goes, all travel begins and ends at home. So whether you venture out or stay local doesn’t matter as long you are happy with your choices and stay connected to the stirrings of the soul within. I hope you enjoyed the journey and I’d love to hear about the places you would add to this list. I plan to do a follow-up post to this sometime soon.
What are your thoughts? Where would you love to visit? What would you cherish most from your trip? Do share! Thank you. 🙂

This post was inspired by a prompt from RalphWaldoEmerson.me: Not everyone wants to travel the world, but most people can identify at least one place in the world they’d like to visit before they die. Where is that place for you, and what will you do to make sure you get there? (Travel by Chris Guillebeau)
Positive Motivation Tip: Travel helps us appreciate our neighbors, our world, our place in the world and all in it; open your mind and make the time.

I love traveling…only thing that stops me is lack of funds 🙁
I want to go back to Wales someday…..visit England, Scotland and Ireland…..I really want to check out Germany…there’s so many places and things I would like to see!

    • 05/06/2011 1:19 am

I think that is a major reason some don’t travel but, you know, there are cheap and local places we can all visit. I would love to travel more too and this prompt gave me an opportunity to visualize and showcase some amazing places I’d love to see. Have you checked out Chris Guillebeau’s) website? He has some amazing travel stories, including how he found the funds to do it. 🙂

  2. 05/06/2011 1:40 am

Thank you for sharing your photos with us showing some spectacular sights. We certainly live in a fascinating and beautiful world.
I’ve had the great fortune to have traveled considerably during my life visiting many countries, staying longer in others and seen so many wonderful sights but now that I’m back in Australia, I want to travel more here – there is so much to see.
Having said that, we are off to England and Scotland this September for a month! Definitely got the travel bug in me!

    • 05/06/2011 3:13 am

      Good for you Barb!
I think it is such a gift to be able to see the world; especially when I am reminded that many would love to do it, but have neither the time nor the funds. I still believe that even if one can’t travel abroad, it is rewarding to travel locally. I’ve traveled a lot too, but there are many places I still want to see on our planet; not excluding space travel. LOL! 😉
      TY!

The Northern Lights, Mt Everest (from a distance), & Uluru…

If I saw these three I’d be happy. I’ve heard the Southern Lights are good too.

There’s a movie around called “Home” which I’ve heard is fantastic. Sounds like it is similar to the 1992 movie “Baraka”.

  4. 05/06/2011 6:24 am

Interesting and thanks for your feedback… I will check out the Uluru recommendation and the movie Home. Glad to see you here. How are you doing?
    TY! 🙂

Busy as a blue-bottomed bee in a bottle (yes, we have those here).

Currently doing parent-child interaction therapy (pcit) training. A US professor is teaching it – Cheryl McNeil. Fabulous – an entertaining, highly knowledgable, and humble person. It’s an honour to be doing the course.

      • 09/06/2011 2:10 am

Oh, I wish you much rays of knowledge for your course… I was wondering why we hadn’t seen a post from you. Keep up the studies and update us when you can. Thanks for answering too. 🙂

Easter Island Ahu Tongariki + Stonehenge, UK: very attractive for me, too much focus on history, religion, symbols, sculptures? maybe better choose where they dance and make music: Rio de Janeiro? we have to decide – all goals together: I think: too expensive 🙂

    • 06/06/2011 12:27 pm

Is that bad? My focus is on places that stir the soul and take our breath away; from my point of view. Dance clubs are fun not breath-taking… Expensive, can be yeah, and there are cheap ways to visit other places too, right? 😉

  6. 05/06/2011 8:01 am

Awesome post/photos! I’m ready to pack my bags!

  7. 05/06/2011 8:11 am

I do like your top 20 but have only been to 4 of them. My list is endless. having grown-up as a military dependent we traveled overseas often. I suppose that is why I have a gypsy’s soul. Dapper G and I take at least 3 big trips a year–there’s a way to travel cheaply–make all the arrangements yourself, travel light. Public transit in most countries is so affordable and one can see more, experience more on the off-beaten track. My list: Greek Isles, Great Barrier Reef, Easter Island/Tahiti, Egypt, China, Machu Picchu, Stonehenge—-to infinity!!

    • 06/06/2011 12:43 pm

I love your list too… Yep, travel doesn’t always have to be expensive if we plan ahead and consider inexpensive options. Of course for those who want and can afford it, the Rolls Royce travel option exists too. 🙂

  8. 05/06/2011 9:58 am

Really nice places. I want to go all the places before I will die.

    • 06/06/2011 12:47 pm

I want to see all of hem and more too. I sometimes wish I could work in a travel related field. I think some people don’t travel because they are afraid of new things, but if we could all try to visit one other place in our lifetime, it would make the difference. 🙂

  9. 05/06/2011 12:38 pm

I would love to go to Japan and see the architecture and meet the people. It seems like such a cool modern place, with a lot of history. I’m doing a local road trip at the end of June-July. We’re doing an East Coast tour of Boston, Niagra Falls and a bunch of little places in between. Our itinerary is packed with really cool sites that are so close to home. I can’t wait! I really want to do a Southern Tour. I have not seen much of the South…maybe next year.

    • 06/06/2011 12:51 pm

I’ve been to a few places in the south but not a major tour which would be nice to do and probably fun too. I love Niagara Falls and went there on my own in college for a tour. I love the parts of the east coast you will be visiting.
Good for you! Make sure to bring back some photos! 🙂

  10. 05/06/2011 1:18 pm

I would love to explore Italy more and Spain. I love the food and the people in both countries.
    Gorgeous photos Eliz! thanks!

    • 06/06/2011 1:12 pm

Viva Italia y Espana! Yes, they do have great food in both places… 🙂

  11. 05/06/2011 4:19 pm

I’m waiting for a time travel machine that let’s us pick both the place . . . and the date . . . without worrying about passports, customs, airport security, etc.!

In the meantime, I’m enjoying the beauty in my own backyard and . . . armchair travels. We get videos from Netflix that let us “see the world” and “under the sea” for FREE. 😀

    • 06/06/2011 1:21 pm

I’d love the Time Machine too so I could step in and be wherever my heart wishes. I have to admit that I might be in the minority, but the airport checks and security pat downs don’t bother me at all. Ditto the scanning machine which I went through first in Amsterdam. I love travel and know these measures are for our protection, so I stay cool with it and focus on the fun ahead. 🙂

Travel does open our eyes and mind to the world; wish I too could do more of it.

    • 06/06/2011 3:16 pm

Yes, travel is an eye opener for sure…
I’ll take the lottery win too I can travel everywhere in the world and even invite a few friends and family along. 🙂

  13. 05/06/2011 6:05 pm

There are so many places I hope to visit one day. It would be nice to have a life to be able to do nothing but travel all over the world to see the magnificent beauty of it all. Beautiful photos-and a good post ! 🙂

    • 06/06/2011 3:19 pm

Your hope is my wish and you know, it is not impossible at all. I still see the teacher and gypsy in me traveling and sharing goodwill. I’m giving it faith. 🙂

  14. 05/06/2011 9:07 pm

Beautiful choices Elizabeth! Love the Serengeti Plains and the Great Barrier Reef! I am just as happy at home. Before my son was born, I loved going to New York and to Hawaii – they are my favorite places! We have much work to do at home before the little guy will ever get on a plane but someday we will do it all – especially the French and Italian Riviera – that’s my dream! 🙂

    • 06/06/2011 3:21 pm

Amen to that and I pray you will see even more places with him too. I want to see places I have never visited and that is what my heart is on… TY! 🙂

Elizabeth, thanks for this list — it looks a bit like mine – Easter Island, Terra Cotta warriors, Great Wall, Taj Mahal, Petra, Machu Picchu, Kilimanjaro, Serengetti, Angkor Wat, St Petersburg.
I crossed off Stonehenge, Victoria Falls, Chichen Itza and GoldenGate.
I was discussing my dream round the world trip with another blogger on Friday — it’s the only way I can think of to see all the places I want to. Still have to decide on where to go — I’ve picked from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the Wonders of the World lists. Plus a few sacred sites — Axum, Lalibela, Timbuktu, Djenne, Dogon, Touba, Santiago de Compostela. I’ll now add Kasubi Tombs from your list — would love to see that!
Usually, when I have time, I don’t have funds. When I have funds, I don’t have time — that’s probably similar for most people. But I’m determined to find a way to have the two synchronized so I can live this dream.
    Thanks for the reminder,
    Marcia

    • 06/06/2011 4:34 pm

Thank you too Marcia as I share your sentiments on this subject. I believe a focused trip around the world would be amazing and I would think 1-2 years should cover a lot of ground.
If Delta and some other airlines sold round the world tickets, it would be such a thrill to start and document the journey from every spot. I’m with you on this! 🙂
PS Check out Chris Guillebeau’s website (http://chrisguillebeau.com/), he’s done it. 🙂

    Those sandstone tombs are fabulous.

    • 06/06/2011 4:35 pm

Aren’t they? I love the color striations and the majesty of the place. 🙂

BTW: Married With Luggage is a blog written by a couple who are on a round the world trip at the moment. They spent 4 months in South America and then took a repositioning cruise to England. They’re in Scotland at the moment.
