Featured Blogger: Ronae Jull – JRRSE Hope Coaching.... Ronae Jull aka RJ

Ronae Jull; Coach, Author, Mom of four, Graduate Student, and Blogger/Owner of JRRSE Hope Coaching, dedicates her coaching skills and time to helping others learn how to parent teens, adult children, and thrive in difficult economic conditions. She maintains a hectic work, coaching and blogging schedule, and has a chestful of experiences that she brings to her interactions with coaching clients. The JRRSE is an acronym formed from the first letters of her and her children’s names, while Hope is a reminder of what keeps her going. Ronae Jull, or RJ as she is fondly called, and I met through the Blog Farm, and I’m delighted to welcome her today as as this week’s Featured “Get To Know” Blogger. Please leave her a comment here, and visit her blog to say hello! 🙂
What keeps you busy and how do you unwind?
I work nearly full time every weekend, work half time at the university, work on my research for my graduate program there, spend time with my coaching clients and write a new blog nearly every day. I’m also a regular featured author on a couple of additional sites: each Wednesday I have a guest post at the international Inspirational Woman Magazine blog, I have a weekly article each Thursday at Adams Organizing, each Saturday my articles are in the motherhood blogs / relationships section of voiceBoks, and finally I’m a regular guest on the Dr. Carol Show where I discuss some of the deeper issues that have received great response on my blog such as domestic violence and abuse allegations between co-parenting moms and dads.

I have quite a few ways to unwind; I love to work in my garden, spend time reading each evening before I go to sleep, take special weekends to catch up with family and friends, and give back to others through mentoring and volunteering as a VIP sponsor for Love Drop.  I have learned to prioritize what is important to me, and to say ‘no’ when asked to take on something that doesn’t fit into what I’m driving for right now. My youngest son is 19 and while I still engage frequently with him, he lives on his own so the time commitment I have dedicated to “mom” has changed rather dramatically over the past year. Now I have the privilege of putting on the “grandma” hat and I’ve got to say I positively relish the role.

“Cherish your visions and your dreams. They are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” ~Napoleon Hill

Where did you grow up and why do you blog?
I was born in northern CA, delivered by my paternal grandfather/doctor, while my parents were visiting from Arizona. That seemed to start the pattern for the next many years of my life: we moved a lot! Dad was a preacher for an ultra-conservative denomination, and until I was 16,  we lived in AZ, CA, NE, MA, MI, BC, and WA. I didn’t know what “roots” were for many years, and still don’t appreciate them much.  My growing up years, and recovery from them, shaped who I became as an adult. There is very little I can remember as a positive from being a child or teen; my family was super-dysfunctional, lacking only substance abuse to make the behaviors make sense. It wasn’t until years later that I learned that my responses were a normal part of living under constant trauma.

Having now lived what I call the “Recovery Lifestyle” for over 20 years (and lived in one place – with a few nomadic moments thrown in – for 30 years), I am grateful for those tough times. Those experiences, and my nearly 30 years of being a single mom to four kids, give endless inspiration for blog posts and Coaching services. For most of my adult life, I’ve worked at least part time as a Life Coach in various settings, and hold probably millions of secrets and struggles inside my head. My greatest joy is walking with someone (especially single moms and teenagers) through recovery from “tough stuff,” helping them find solutions, healthy perspectives, and true recovery.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the small voice at the end of the day that says ‘I will try again tomorrow” ~ Mary Anne Radmacher

What is most important to you / about you?
The most important thing about me is that I experience joyful recovery from childhood trauma, substance abuse, and clinical depression, on a daily basis. The most important thing to me is to pass on what I have grown through and to help my adult children and other single moms and teens especially in their efforts to find solutions to life’s struggles that work for them. While I believe it would be arrogant to think I could somehow prevent my kids (and others) from having to go through their own ‘stuff’ just because they heed my words of wisdom, I also believe that a large part of having been the recipient of such amazing joyful recovery is a giving back mentality. My passion is to bring healing to hurting people.

What motivates you to get out of bed?
My alarm clock! I balance a super-busy life of being single mom to a 19-year-old with mental health issues and frequent crises (and three other children and grandchildren), being a grad student and part-time teacher, part time employment in the health-care industry, and part time Coaching Services and writing my blog. Being driven and genuinely energized by being this busy is a personality trait that can have its downside, but I do pretty well keeping it all in balance and still sleeping occasionally.

How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered as a person with passion for joyful living that managed to successfully reach out to hurting people and helped to bring them hope and healing.

    Lovely to meet you, RJ.

The first quote rather surprised me:

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here’s one I’ve loved for some time:

To be nobody but yourself ~ in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else ~ means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. ~ e.e.cummings

    Hmm . . . who borrowed from whom? 😀

    • 20/05/2011 1:21 am

Interesting, both quotes are quite close in meaning… Sounds like e.e. enjoyed the quote so much that he wrote his version of it… Love both of them. 🙂

    Another great introduction!

I love seeing great minds going down similar paths, and the fact that we resonate with them is encouraging! Of course, since Emerson was born in 1803, and Cummings not til 1894, I’ll take a wild guess that Cumming’s thinking was likely shaped in part by reading Emerson.

I like to think we’re in good company, who find both their writing inspirational!

True… both are masters of the written word. 8)

“Recovery Lifestyle” after suffering under a Dad, who “was a preacher for an ultra-conservative denomination …” – thanks for saying that as clear as it is!

I am honored to meet so many wonderful people here, and am grateful again for the opportunity offered by Elizabeth for the interview! As my passion is sharing bits of my story and lessons learned in order to offer a message of practical HOPE to struggling moms and dads, it is incredibly affirming to read that my message is being heard.

Sending HOPE, joy and courage to each one of you today!

It never ceases to amaze me how many of us who’ve lived through abuse believe that experience made us who we are today. It’s all in how you perceive it and choose to live your life. RJ obviously has made her quite rewarding.
One of my favorite quotes is: ‘Be yourself, everyone else is taken.’ I believe that was Mark Twain.
    Thanks for the intro!

    • 21/05/2011 1:22 am

Yes, I can imagine the enormous impact it has on life and the interactions people end up having with others… RJ is a great lady. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
BTW, the quote is from Oscar Wilde. 🙂
