Sprinkles of Love: Happy Mother’s Day!

God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” Rudyard Kipling

Sprinkles of Love: Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day has always held bittersweet memories for me; mainly because it often falls either close to or on the day my dad passed away. So while I find moments to reflect on my mother and her life, I also find time to reflect on the life of my dad. It is quite an interesting lesson to be reminded that we can celebrate both life and death in the same breath. My Mother was a complex, fiery and very determined woman and my memories of her are filled with stories that would make you roar with laughter and wince with pain; but that is what helps us build memories around every human life… Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and to all moms!

One of the best gifts our mothers have given us is the gift of life and that is important to remember. Our mothers also leave us memories that add to our narratives of their lives. I remember once when my Mom entered a singing competition on TV, something to do with who could make the sound “ohhhh” the longest, and I believe she either won or came a close second. My siblings and I were mortified ( teasing classmates syndrome ;-)) yet thoroughly fascinated by her daring nature. It was something that might seem innocuous today, but not so common for a married woman, back in the day.  One thing I can say for sure is that there was never a dull moment around my mother as she made sure to sprinkle our lives with lots of memories… and her special brand of love.

For Mother’s Day, I send happy cheers and blessings to all Mothers everywhere. If your memories are happy, so-so or sad, know that your life is a celebration and for that we must be thankful to our Mothers. Go sprinkle some love and joy on your mom and/or all the women who nurtured you! 🙂

What are your thoughts? What memories do you hold of your mother? How do you celebrate Mother’s Day? Do share. Thank You! 🙂

Positive Motivation Tip: Every Mother’s Day is an opportunity to reflect not only on our moms but on the gift of life we enjoy…

This post was inspired by Mamakat’s Writers Workshop prompt on memories of our Mothers. And the sprinkles were inspired by one of my blog buddies – Jackie; who wrote a lovely post. Thank you! 🙂

Your mum sounds like quite a character!
My mum is 91 and I haven’t seen her for 7 years (she lives in the UK, I live in Australia). But I will be seeing her again this September when we travel to the UK for a whole month. So we will have a belated Mother’s Day special this year!

      Thanks for sharing that, Barb.

It made me feel better. My mom is 83 and I haven’t seen her for 2 years ~ the longest time between visits since . . . EVER.

      Happy Mother’s Day!

Such a simple statement to remember that our moms gave us life – yet in the day to day activities, we seem not to focus on that biggest of all moments for any of us. Thanks for the perspective Elizabeth.

I’m sorry for the loss of your father at this time of year. Fill your heart with happy memories and it can be a sweet day of recollection even when the longing for times past comes to you. ((Hugs)) and don’t forget to wish yourself a very Happy Mother’s Day! 🙂

fair, that you mention your father too; sorry for the emotional surroundings, but for sure you can find happier days in your fathers life too; thanks for the elaborated description: “My Mother was a fiery and very determined woman and my memories of her are filled with stories that would make you roar with laughter…” no wonder to produce such a daughter …

Funny little snippet about your mother and her TV appearance. Yes, the teasing classmate syndrome would’ve been enough for a sick day! I also blogged about Mom today. Enjoy Mother’s Day, Eliz.

TY and wishing you much love and peace on this day. Happy MD! 🙂

I love: “…wait until I get to you!”
When my Mom reminisces on when we were small, she often says that she had no idea what she was doing, and is happy we all survived! I find her honesty so poignant – she had no real role models, and really did have to figure it out on her own. And my Dad worked long hours too…
    They give us so much…
And you mother so many, too, Elizabeth, perhaps in many more ways than you realize! Thank you for being in my life 🙂

    • 13/05/2012 2:37 am

TY Leslee for your kind words… I’ve imagined that we all do mother in some fashion and I’m grateful to all who mothered me. 🙂

My mother taught me many wonderful things. She was a true southern belle, teaching me the hospataily ways of the south. She taught me the warmth of love, the abundance gained by forgiveness, to always give my best, being independent, and most of all the joy of having God in my life. She is now in heaven, singing with the angels. She was my best friend and I miss her terribly, but my memories of her will carry me a lifetime.
    Happy Mother’s Day-Eliz 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day to you. I cannot give anything to my mother, she currently lives in another country. I am currently writing a poem for her. I just hope I can finish it before the day ends. 🙂

“Fiery, complex, and very determined” – wow, were we separated at birth?? I could use those same words to describe my mom! She was a very unique lady – besides the gift of life, she instilled in me a passionate love of family and love of laughter. Sure do miss her!

This is a wonderful tribute to your mother! I feel guilty because I forgot Mother’s Day; my mom had to remind me. I don’t think she was too happy about it, but I’m thinking of a way to make it up to her when she and my dad come back from their vacation.

I know it’s very late, but belated Happy Mother’s Day!

    • 13/05/2012 3:06 am

TY and it’s never too late to share this one… Hope all is well with you. TY and Happy MD too! 🙂
