Inspiration: Another Look At Spring…

26/04/2011

“The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not rob the little violet of it’s scent nor the daisy of its simple charm. If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose, spring would lose its loveliness.” Therese of Lisieux

A while back, I wrote a post that was inspired by a Daily Post prompt on Spring. At the time, it was early spring and most of the flowers in my yard and around me were barely showing their colorful buds. As the weeks went by and the weather warmed, flowers slowly bloomed and soon, there was color everywhere. I am thrilled to have a garden filled with bleeding hearts, daffodils, magnolia flowers and growing peony this year… They are all so heartwarming.

Since I had promised to show some more photos of colorful flora in my yard and around town, this post is essentially a way to revisit that subject; another look at spring. As I write this, the time ticks away and so I will have to invite you to stop by later to see more of my photos on what I’ve seen since the earth embraced the sun in spring. I have added two poems on spring for your delight. Enjoy them and share your thoughts? I took more photos of our magnolia blooms and other colorful flowers and shrubs around my neighborhood. I will add them to my Positive Kismet post. Check them out. More Photos coming… later! (Updated)
What colorful and furry things have you seen this spring? Your thoughts? The rest of this post and the Blog Hop/Rules are below. Add/Update your links and make new friends… Add any post you wish to have others enjoy and comment on. 🙂

To The Spring by Friedrich von Schiller
Welcome, gentle Stripling,
Nature’s darling thou!
With thy basket full of blossoms,
A happy welcome now!
Aha!–and thou returnest,
Heartily we greet thee–
The loving and the fair one,
Merrily we meet thee!
Think’st thou of my maiden
In thy heart of glee?

I love her yet, the maiden–
And the maiden yet loves me!
For the maiden, many a blossom
I begged–and not in vain!
I came again a-begging,
And thou–thou givest again:
Welcome, gentle Stripling,
Nature’s darling thou–
With thy basket full of blossoms,
A happy welcome now!

“Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

I love the rains and the squirrels, the sun and the flowers… Forsythia, daffodils, bleeding hearts and more. I love how the earth smells and how the air feels light. When I step outside, I feel a spring in heart and a shift in my mood… that’s why I love spring…  I love Easter and all the ways we celebrate it and the weather… What do you love about spring?

A Prayer in Spring by Robert Frost
OH, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
To which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends he will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.

This post was inspired by a Daily Post prompt on Spring and MamaKat’s Writer’s Workshop on a Photo Story on Spring photos. I pulled together photographs I took over the last several weeks, and hope you enjoyed looking at them. The last photo of the giant rat was captured on a Manhattan Street early this month; I believe it was on East 57th St… Perhaps an ode to the giant rats trolling the subway tracks. 🙂 interesting eh?
Mamakat’s Photo Story Prompt: Take a walk through your neighborhood this week and share some pictures of what Spring looks like where you live.
What are your thoughts? What more do you love about spring? Do share. . Thank You! 🙂

I am surprised, that you have chosen a poem of the German writer Friedrich Schiller! He was a rebel…

  2. 27/04/2011 12:27 am

    Oh you are funny!:-)
I picked it because I liked the poem and the emotion tied to it… We all need a little rebel in us from time to time. Uniformity = Death & Boring! 🙂

Great post to read before starting my day. Beautiful photos and the poems were inspiring. I love spring, and the summer, it’s refreshing to see all of God’s beauty and His colorful creations of all nature surrounding us every day.

It is nice to see proof of spring. Here in Ontario I look out at rain and fog, which has it’s own charms, but right now lightning and thundering! Calls for a good book reading day so it nice to see it is somewhere!

Love Spring! So clever of God to usher it in right after winter!

  14. 27/04/2011 8:34 pm

I love the bleeding hearts, and flowers you have here. The squirrel is so adorable. Your quote is amazing too. I enjoyed reading this about Spring, but here in Chicago IL it’s quite cold for 4/27/2011.

  15. 27/04/2011 8:43 pm

The pretty flowers and other signs of Spring make me say, “Ahh.” Like the Robert Frost choice.

  16. 27/04/2011 9:26 pm

    Absolutely Gorgeous!!!!

  17. 27/04/2011 11:04 pm

I didn’t know there was a flower called “Bleeding hearts” Wow! They are gorgeous! Where all can they grow at? I may have a new favorite flower besides roses!

  18. 28/04/2011 4:44 am

I really like the Bleeding Hearts too, especially the deep pink ones! I’ve not seen them before.

As we are heading into winter, I can’t really share much about spring right now – but when you are heading into winter, then I will be able to share amidst all your snow shots!

  19. 28/04/2011 4:12 pm

Wow, gorgeous rainbow of flowers! Unfortunately it’s been cold and rainy for most of this month.. so other than the rainy weather, nothing else feels much like Spring yet 🙁
