Featured Blogger: Penny Marsh – Life's A Beach Journal...

My dear blog friend, hard working mom, devoted grandmother and trusted friend to many, Penny Marsh, is a modern day superwoman. Not only does she make time to write her blog, LifesABeachJournal, support her blog buddies, tend to family events and more, but she also holds down two paid positions while doing cartwheels and spending time enjoying the beach… Okay, the cartwheels was a joke but you get my point. Women are known to multitask and Penny Marsh does it par excellence. Plus, she does it with humor and a verve for life.

Like many of my recent blogger friends, Penny and I met through the Blog Buddy initiative rolled out with our WordPress Daily Post Challenge. Thank you WordPress! Since we connected in the blogosphere, Penny has continued to reach out to me and other bloggers. She is committed, consistent, and always happy to read and comment on posts and, her blog, LifesABeachJournal, is a wonderful and personal journal of her travails and triumphs. What I’ve always admired about Penny is her compassionate spirit and her determination to do her best work. While she might not admit it, Penny puts in long, demanding hours and then makes time to honor/pursue her other daily commitments; all with a smile and a positive word. When I sent out the invitation for bloggers to join the interview series and be featured, Penny signed on and I’m glad to feature her as this week’s “Get To Know” featured blogger. Please welcome our blog buddy, Penny Marsh. 🙂

Tell us a little bit about your two jobs? How do you manage to write your blog between a full-time job and a 2nd weekend job?
I am presently working two jobs; full-time and part-time. Organizing my time gets me in a frenzy sometimes. I’m planning for retirement soon which is the reason for this madness of juggling two jobs. There are moments when I wonder if I am supposed to get up to go to work, or turn the lights out and crawl back into bed. I spend most of my free time writing my blog and blog hopping; visiting my blogging buddies to read their posts and share my thoughts. It’s great, as we give each other encouragement in our cyberspace-world. Also, I enjoy walks and meeting up with family or friends for fun conversations and outings. I try to find special “ME” time; to read, watch TV, and write my blog posts.

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and the end of human existence” Aristotle

Where did you grow up and why do you blog?
I grew up in the beautiful mountain state of West Virginia. We enjoyed many fun-filled, family Sunday adventures driving up through the Blue Ridge Mountains along the Shenandoah River in Harpers Ferry. I loved the rugged mountains and all the winding country roads. After graduation, I moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, where I grew to love everything about this Colonial Town. My favorite place to take my evening walks is down on Merchant Square, watching all the horse and buggies trotting down the cobbled roads; sometimes, I feel as though I am living in the 18th Century, watching people, places, and the making of history.

About Blogging: I had a friend who encouraged me to think about starting my own blog; the idea seemed exciting but a little overwhelming. Then, my son and his girlfriend surprised me with my Word Press Blog as a Christmas gift; it was truly a gift from the heart. It was a terrific moment for each of us to actually see it up on screen. I was a little nervous about putting my writing out for public viewing. Yet, I found that with each story I wrote, my nervousness turned into confidence and encouragement.

I have found blogging to be fun; I get to write my stories, be creative and add some reality. I have found the best part is forming connections; as I get to know other bloggers. It is truly a blessing. It’s an inspirational experience, as well as a great motivator for me to continue my writing and share my thoughts on everyday topics. It’s definitely a dream come true.

My hope is to retire and live close to the sea. I have always loved the beach and the sea. The smell of the salty water; the wind in my face, the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm. The sounds of the waves stir every fiber within me, giving me more inspiration and creativity for my thoughts. I can see myself sitting out on the patio at my computer-writing my stories, and enjoying the ocean.

What is most important to you/about you?
What’s most important to me is wanting the best for my family and children. My son is a computer whiz, works several jobs, and never turns down a challenge. My daughter will be graduating from nursing school soon; all her long hours and studying has paid off. I am proud of my children for always putting their best into what they wanted to accomplish in life. I like to inspire people to continue their life journey and follow their dreams.
My granddaughter Becky is a very active little girl. She loves her friends, school, and especially, her special father and daughter weekend getaways. They went to Blue Ridge Mountains this past weekend and had a blast. Her smile and joy for life brings happiness to our family.
My grandson Derek is enthusiastic and determined to be a pro-football player one day. He has played ball since he was old enough to hold a ball in his little hands, and has made us all proud of all his achievements. He is good natured and brings a smile to our faces.
The most important thing about me is that I have a genuine heart and a positive attitude; I see the good in everyone I meet.

What motivates you to get out of bed?
What motivates me is the anticipation of facing the challenges that each day brings into my life. I think of the beauty around me and look forward to my day’s adventures and my choices. I see each day as a new start to learn new things. I think of my family and children; praying for their continued good health and happiness.

How would you like to be remembered?
As a woman who fought her battles and found inner peace and strength to rebuild her life. Through perseverance and determination, I have lived a good life and I love life. I believe truth and honesty are always the best policy. I’m always looking for the good in everyone I come to know and love, and I live for Life – Love – Laughter; it has helped me with my humor and confidence.

Congratulations Penny! You must be one very tired lady at the end of the week.
It takes discipline and determination to pull it off and I bet you have both.
I should start doing cartwheels too. 😉
