Resolutions: Revisiting Twelve New Year Wishes

15/03/2011

“What makes the difference between wishing and realizing our wishes? Lots of things, and it may take months or years for a wish to come true, but it’s far more likely to happen when you care so much about a wish that you’ll do all you can to make it happen.” Fred Rogers

Resolutions: Revisiting twelve wishes for 2011...

How’s your 2011 New Year’s Resolution treating you? Did you write one or several? Have you had a chance to review your list or did you, like me, skip creating a personal list for reasons we can … skip? A few years ago, after years of writing and forgetting my first of year list of to-dos, I changed my approach and started each year with wishes that encompassed others, and that were broad enough to cover as much stuff as we typically encounter in any given year. Phew!

Because 2010 was a fairly challenging year for me, I chose or read … decided that If there was anything I would wish for our world in 2011, it would have to be for Peace and Love. It is still my prayer that everyone find something to smile about this year. In addition, I chose 12 gifts/blessings/wishes for each and everyone… In revisiting the list of twelve, I send the same gifts out to all as we can definitely use blessings and as Mr Rogers suggested above, if we work hard at it, our wishes do eventually come true; in their own way… Happy Revisited New Year! 🙂

The first wish on the 12 gifts/blessings/wishes list is:♥ Health. What are you doing to maintain your health this year? As I looked at my list today, I realized that I have made a conscious effort to exercise, eat better and shed some of the extra pounds that I picked up in the last two years. I’ve added more fruits, grains and vegetables to my diet and cut back on my favorite — desserts. I still enjoy them but not excessively. Hey, we must still enjoy some dessert. 🙂 What about you? Over the coming weeks, I will take a look at each of the wishes/blessings on the list and share how I’m living them. See the list of all twelve and a bit more below. What have you been doing with the resolutions you wrote?

“Wishing is good for us. Daydreams, fantasies, castles in the air, and aspirations all drive us forward, impel us to make things happen. They also tell us a lot about ourselves. Our wishes come straight from our core, and they are loaded with vitality.” Anon

Resolutions: Revisiting Health Wishes for 2011

You know what is interesting? I didn’t include every imaginable wish I could have on the list below. Why? Because I wanted the list to reflect an ideal for each month of the year; hence twelve instead of twenty. On reflection, there are things that I am doing this year that have always been on my old lists… I didn’t add those concrete things here. Writing is one… and I am writing a lot. I figured that instead of re-creating or re-hashing another wishful thinking list of things I know I should do, I would just do them. So far, that is working.

It would be interesting to see how the other things on my old lists fit in with this, should we say, universal list? I will check in later in the year and re-evaluate my progress or the lack of it… I plan to stay on par for the course and I hope/pray you do too. Below are the twelve universal wishes for all. Are any on your list? What’s happening on your resolution horizon? Do share! On an important note, I’d like to send condolences, healing light and prayers to blogger/friend Walter. Thank you…

For 2011, I send 12 gifts/blessings/wishes to each of you:
Health
Happiness
Hope
Abundance
Grace
Peace & Love
Wisdom
Friendship
Goodwill
Success
Adventure
Divine Protection

Positive Motivation Tip: Don’t give up on your wishes even when life’s challenges throws you a curve-ball. Pick up where you left off.

Thanks for the wishes and I have not kept up my New 2011 Resolutions. I guess the only one I did keep is keeping up with this blog a day challenge so far. That is a good start. Or Finish?!!

    • 22/03/2011 7:15 am

It’s a good start Jackie and keep it up. The point I was making was to ease up on punishing ourselves over it. We do the best we can and adjust the rest. Keep going. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

    hi Eliz,
this blog continues, the connection with you too, I am glad that I found you and your inspiring writings. Crashed: my guitar plans: end of music after the JAPAN apocalypse. can’t sing anymore …

    • 16/03/2011 10:00 am

      Dear Frizztext,
I had to comment on your comment…I’m saddened that your music is silenced by these tragic world events…it reminds me of the somg, The Day The Music Died. 🙁 But I believe it is a natural response to such events…and I hope that in time, the music will well up and emerge again, with more depth…even better. The events of our lives help mold us into who we are…ever changing.

    • 16/03/2011 10:22 pm

      Hi Frizz,
Please find that place inside where sorrow meets music and find a song to soothe the pain… There is so much pain and anxiety with the unfolding of events that we need song… soothing soul lifting song. You have it. Don’t give up!

Thank you for your comment but I don’t want you to give up what sustains you… music is a glorious gift under all conditions. Pick up your guitar and sing the blues. 🙂

    • 22/03/2011 7:18 am

Yes, a lot of people do. It also keeps life a bit more interesting… meeting the unknown while working our way through the responsibilities in front of us and the goals within our hearts… 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

It’s good to revisit from time to time any goal we make…as our situation changes (and the world changes), sometimes our goals may need revision also.
But I’m on the same page with your list of “universal” wishes or goals…most of us want health, peace, friendship, etc. And we all need to work at these wishes or goals every day…they don’t happen by chance. 🙂
Thanks for the review, Eliz…especially now with the tragic events in Japan, it’s important to realize that life is in constant motion and our contributions, whether large or small, are important…even if it is just the posting of our blog which may uplift or help one other person!

    • 22/03/2011 7:20 am

Yes , the constant motion sweeps us along; whether we like it or not, resist or not. I like the idea of universal goals too because it holds us accountable for how e treat our planet and each other… 🙂
      Thank you,
      Eliz

What a beautiful way to resolve to improve. I’ve never seen anything like this before and I really have great appreciation for it. I made no resolutions this year having failed in the past.

Your words always hit home with me though, Elizabeth and I adore you for that. You put a light inside me that before, was just a flicker. Thank you for that gift.

    • 22/03/2011 7:23 am

      Oh Karen,
Thank you too for adding your light to the page. i do enjoy reading your blog too as it gives me a better understanding of your son and your struggles. Thank you for sharing your devotion to your son with us. 🙂

The only ‘resolution’ I made this year was to be kinder to myself and learn to accept love openly when offered. So far, so good.
    Thanks for the reminder!

    • 22/03/2011 7:25 am

That’s a worthy resolution… We can all stand to be kinder to ourselves and others… You know, I was thinking that if people were kinder to themselves, they would feel good inside and probably, won’t feel the need to hurt others… 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

Beautiful post, Eliz. Love your list. My resolution ~ to be absolutely determined to enjoy what I do.

When we are enjoying the journey, we win. No matter what happens, we win.

On the issue of wishes: “Between the wish and the thing, life lies waiting.”

    • 22/03/2011 7:26 am

It is a great goal. If we enjoy what we do and where we are, that’s half the battle… 😉
      Thank you,
      Eliz

I like the list of twelve wishes; all great things we want for ourselves.
I think sometimes, the word goals or plans lose some of the magical quality that wish has.
It takes hard work to accomplish anything meaningful but the effort is made easier when we add a playfulness to it.
Wish has that quality and also the added bonus of outside help and creative action as tools.
Great list to live especially with all going on globally this year!
    B

I agree with the idea of playfulness as a factor in our honoring our resolutions… You have a point there. If it feels light and playful then our creativity sparks and we can get through a long, dull dark day/cloud. 🙂
      Thank you,
      Eliz

New Year is always my favorite time for re-thinking, re-doing, and re-establishing my life and my directions. I do not make resolutions, just try to do what I do the best, and do better in ways I need too. There is a sense of newness and freshness in a heading into a new year.

Wonderful post Eliz, as always you are so creative in your writing, and the photos are always so beautiful.

    • 22/03/2011 7:32 am

      Thank you Penny,
I try to actively pursue the things I want to change or expand in the New Year. It’s only March and so much has happened, I believe we are in for a bumpy ride… Lots of Grace and Goodwill needed. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

These are great wishes, and wise ones, too. They’re things that people tend to take for granted or give up on, especially peace. Well, I guess peace isn’t attainable at present in certain parts of the world, but it can be in our individual lives. Thank you for these wishes. I send them back to you.

    • 22/03/2011 7:37 am

Peace in our individual lives is a great start and then the wish is that it flows outwards and that we all respond to it… For now, we are in a changing world and I pray everyone finds it in their hearts… 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz
