Dreaming of the Himalayas & Kilimanjaro…

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Gloria Steinem

Dreaming of the Himalayas & Kilimanjaro... View of MT Everest on Himalayas Range

Lately, as I read/view distressing scenes from Japan and around the world, I realize that many areas I’d love to re-visit or visit are in turmoil. Nature’s fury is changing the global landscape; places we imagined, dreamt about visiting are changing. Part of us wishes to escape, hoping the tragedies were in our imagination; that they’d go away. They won’t. In between breaking news, updates, repeats, I let my mind wonder off to the mountains; The Himalayas, Kilimanjaro, Mt Everest, perhaps, amidst the flora and fauna, answers will be found there above it all… Maybe? Maybe not? I’d love to visit Mount Fuji again.   Sometimes the mountains come to us to share their secrets… giving us Hope.

Remember that popular hair product ad that went something like “Please don’t hate me because I’m beautiful…” Well, please don’t hate me because my imagination, seeking ways to pleasantly escape, is busy dreaming up great work that takes me to the top of two great spots in the world and from where I can contemplate the sound of one hand clapping.

From there, away from the pain, I can commiserate with all the ongoing global events and find fresh air ways to help. I mean, if we are going for the ultimate work experience, why settle for a building or the lame ass perfunctory confines of our home office?  There is nothing wrong with those options but you must agree, they are well… so ordinary. The outdoors will trump, the indoors anytime; especially at a unique location. From Mt Everest above to Kilimanjaro below, we can follow our hearts down the path…. What do you wish to see in the world that you keep putting off? Why? Blog Hop to be added tomorrow.

“It is above all by the imagination that we achieve perception and compassion and hope.” Ursula K. LeGuin

Okay, so logistically we won’t be able to access the full range of office related tools, but remember this is an- imagine-it-all-and-see-it-manifest exercise. I have everything I need up on the mountains, wifi, hifi, sci-fi, all manner of fi, including the trusted marine corps like training, semper fi. All this in prep for time atop a world with thin air…

In between creative and exhilarating work, solving strife in the world, trekking around the mountain range system, bathing in the Ganges, Yellow River, adapting to the terrain, turning to natural foods and beverages, saying daily prayer for world healing, doing yoga and meditation, I will pause, each time I come down the mountain range, to eat goat’s milk vanilla ice cream
What are your thoughts? What would you like to see in the world that you have put off?

I’ve enjoyed some hang gliders in the Alps.
things below seem to be not important anymore.
no trouble up in the air. you can forget all distress.
you are only by yourself and your dreams.
without any luggage you are free. Birds know, what I’m talking about. My cat too. She hates birds, she’s very envy …

Birds and animals are very aware of the shifts in life and nature. They recognize the impending dangers and gather their flocks to observe and then fly away or act tense… This has been a very challenging global year… lots of changes and shifts; not all good!
      Thanks,
      Eliz

I’m not nearly as adventurous as you. Right now I’d just like to be lying in a hammock on a tropical island somewhere, with an umbrella drink in my hand.
    Have a great week!

That sounds like a fine adventure to me… I haven’t visited the Caribbean at all. It is on my agenda. You know the story, it’s next door so you put it off. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

I have a imaginary place that I go to work. It’s in the forest and has green moss growing, ferns and a little pond. I have an office overlooking the pond that has all the worldly hook-ups I need to stay in communication with the world because as much as I would like to think I could, I can’t handle complete isolation.
I can’t really say I’ve put off seeing anything in the world.

I think you are doing a fine job on your journeys dear BB. I do hope you find out that I gave you a blog award. We must have a word with Rose to allow the occasional comment. 🙂
      Thank you,
      Eliz

If we can dream it, we can achieve it.

Enjoy soaring with your imagination, Eliz!

Sure will. I love travel and would love to do more of it. The Himalayas is more likely though. Now I have to manifest the $ to pull it all together. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Elizabeth

Many years ago, I went parasailing in Hawaii with my husband…absolute silence up there, with only the birds for company. It was lovely!
And just this past August, I went skydiving with my son in Chicago…as I glided down (in tandem with the pro), I got the same feeling…free, quiet, an observer of life as opposed to a participant.
Thanks, Eliz…for reminding us that we need to dream and step out of the “comfort zone” box in order to experience our possibilities.

    • 22/03/2011 6:24 am

I am so impressed with your skydiving! I always tell others to do it and would love to but… We can dream about lots of things and I do my share. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.” Gloria Steinem

I like this quote: Wouldn’t it be a gloomy world, if we could not use our imagination or we lose vision of our dreams. I don’t know if I will, but I do hope to travel to other countries one day. Like I said, we cannot lose sight of our imagination, hopes, and dreams. 🙂 Very good post Eliz, and the photos are beautiful.

I do hope you use some vacation time to travel; even if you do it off season; a really great time to get cheap fares and have all the popular places to yourself. 🙂 Go for it!
      Thanks,
      Eliz

Wow, you’ve been to Mount Fuji? I’m jealous! I have climbed three mountains here in the Philippines (Mt. Pulag, Mt. Pundakit, and Mt. Pinatubo), and though I was always exhausted during and after the climb, I always ended up feeling that it was worth it. And I always wanted to do more, to climb more mountains. I agree; the outdoors will trump the indoors anytime. Definitely.

I haven’t been to the mountains or the beach in months. This post tells me I should do something about that.

    • 22/03/2011 6:28 am

Yes we went to Mt Fuji but got stuck at the 12th or 10th station (will have to check my notes) because of bad weather. It was a wonderful trip to the Mt and the shift in air was quite noticeable. I would love to visit again and of course go to other Mt areas. There is a serenity and blessed air around mountains. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz

Wow, I admire those that love to travel. I don’t get out very much. Those photo’s are really warm.

    • 22/03/2011 6:30 am

Thank you Jackie, I do hope you get to do some too… I know you’d have a blast and come back with pictures and stories… There are many ways to travel too. 🙂
      Thanks,
      Eliz
