Featured Blogger: Jackie Paulson - Knowledge and Truthseeker...

If you click on Jackie Paulson’s About Me page, you will see that, amongst her many qualities and the experiences that have shaped her life, she is a mother, traveler, researcher, a Christian, animal lover, avid reader and blogger. Jackie’s background includes work as an investigator, organizer and paralegal. She calls Illinois home, and lives there with daughter, Jorden, and her two cats; Wiley and Dee.

Jackie and I connected through the Daily Post Find a Blog Buddy invite. What stood out when we connected online was her sense of humor, and her passionate belief in the healing powers of faith, friendship and writing. In addition to blogging, she is working on her book of poems and other offline projects. Please give a warm hug to today’s featured blogger in our “Get To Know” series — The one and only Jackie A. Paulson of the PostaDayChallenge2011 blog. 🙂

Where did you grow up and why do you blog?
I am a single mother born under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius and Illinois is home to me and my family. The one thing I find true for me that also stands out as a trait of that sign is – “knowledge is power.” I am a lifelong knowledge and truth-seeker and love to read and learn from others.

The reason why I blog is mainly to network and share knowledge with others. My passion is reading and research so this helps me to share what I know. I can read 167 pages of any book in two hours with complete comprehension of what I have read. I was not always a good reader but that all changed once I got married. The reason it changed was because I wanted to “fix” my husband at that time. He was a drinker and so was I. Of course I did not think I had a problem I thought he did. What I did was to get my hands on every self help book at Barnes and Noble bookstores and apply what I learned.

Featured Blogger: Jackie and her daughter Jorden ...

Eventually, I was invited to an AA meeting by a friend and took her up on the offer. I went there to “fix” my husband’s drinking problem. What I found out was that I could not “fix” anyone but “myself.” With time, I changed and quit drinking but my husband did not. The changes I made involved learning to not be a codependent, and live my life married but “detached” from my husband and his drinking.

When our marriage ended, I received “sole custody” of our daughter, Jorden, and raised her the best way I knew how. I did my part by raising her the best way I could; working many jobs to make ends meet, and taking on all the responsibilities of a single parent. She recently turned 17 on Valentine’s Day and is the light of my life. Yes, I am a Proud Mother!

What is most important to you/about you?
What is most important to me is the quest to learn more by reading and seeking the truth, and my daughter.

What motivates you to get out of bed?
I love to get out of bed and clean and organize anything I can get my hands on. I love the internet as a way of seeking knowledge and learning from others. I am a visual type and can read something once and understand the message. I love watching YouTube videos and hearing inspirational messages from different parts of the world. Additionally, I would love to help others in any way I can.

How would you like to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered as an author and a loving mother. I really want to write a book; I have a book of poems I am working on and want to publish. This is an ongoing project. I also put together one personal book for my daughter and I’m working on the other for non publication. I have a photo journal of her from birth till now that went into a dated Christmas ornament, and dated hand written letters that I have written to her over the years; I plan to give them to her on a very special day as a gift. She is currently 17 years old and will appreciate them later in life. I look back on these projects now, and realize that the greatest treasure I have is my daughter.

One thing stands out from reading your post, is that she is a very caring and loving mother. Being a single parent in the circumstances she was in (and came through), has probably made her the person she is today – strong and vibrant!

I wish Jackie lived near me, because I need someone who wakes up and wants to clean and organize!
I admire a woman who continues to learn and share that knowledge, especially with her daughter. Jorden is a lucky girl.
Thanks to both of you ladies.

Elizabeth, you are a great interviewer. Jackie, you are a phenomenal mom!
I noticed too that Jackie is an investigator and paralegal, both of which require an incredible amount of ingenuity and research!

I absolutely love Jackie’s idea of writing letters to our children and giving them as a gift when they reach a certain age. I hope that my son will be able to appreciate such a gift when he grows up! What a wonderful blog feature!! Thank you both.

I can really relate to Jackie because I am also a single mom. I spend a lot of time reflecting and making meaning out of life. Jackie you sound like a solid woman that makes the most out of life. You seem like a woman that never complains and you embrace your struggles like blessings. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful person with us Eliz.

I am delighted for Jackie, coming out of troubled waters is a huge struggle, and when you choose to make a different life for yourself as Jackie has done; it’s not only seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but living in the new light with all its glory. Best wishes to you Jackie, and your beautiful daughter. D:
