Perspective: Walking On Thin Ice…

21/02/2011

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air, a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white cloud, the green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child, our own two eyes. All is a Miracle.” Thich Nhat Hanh

Perspective: Walking on Ice...

It is five thirty in the morning, we’ve been up all night; a sick child, fevers, snow everywhere…
The snow falling steadily blanketing everything in it’s path; a reminder not to take everything to heart.
The noise, the colors, the distractions of yesterday can be swept away … in a twinkle, in a beat.

Tired eyes scan from left to right; everything that once was brightly hued, now covered in white.
The muse’s urge comes to go outside, to get some air, to walk about and clear the mind.
Let’s take a walk and clear our head and touch the sky and kiss the air….
Let’s search for twigs and frozen leaves and ride the clouds and embrace the wind

Perspective: Walk on Ice...

It is six forty in the morning, we’ve been up all night; fevers waning, doctors calling, tissue everywhere…
The snow truck’s humming as salt is spreading everywhere;corroding roadside cracks and frozen earth.
The land, the trees, the nearby pond tasted, tainted by the treatment reserved for the freeze.

Tired limbs move left and right; imagining a gingerly walk around the park, now covered in duck droppings
The muse’s urge did take us there, to stretch our limbs, to get some air, to walk around and shake our fears
Let’s take another walk today to clear our head and say a prayer and scan the Hudson River‘s span…
Let’s search for deer and dawdling ducks and walk on snow and taste that coffee in our cups…

When all is said, when all is done, we’ll have to stop and think of what we’ve won.
To walk the earth, to see the stars, our lives a gift, to know the miracles we daily birth
It doesn’t matter who we are; how big our trees, how small our barns…
What matters most is in our hearts; if we forget, we know the price … is the same as walking on thin ice.

Positive Motivation Tip: Embrace what matters; to walk on earth, to have life, to be grateful for all, our path and more … All are miracles.

Thanks Arva… Sometimes exhaustion can be the best creative teacher… add a sick child to the mix and we want to be brief. 🙂
      Thank you!

    it’s like a laconic poem …
(once I read Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Alan Ginsberg)

Laconic poem.. I like that description. Maybe I was channeling Alan Ginsberg when the words came to my heart… I know I was kinda tired too.
      Thank you!

This is very beautifully written and like Frizz said, it has a laconic flow to it.
It is intriguing that we do some of our best work when we are tired.
I hope your child feels better as that stomach flu is running around again.
Get some rest and keep writing; nothing stops those who hold onto the feet of the lord.

I find that exhaustion does make me try new ways of doing the same thing because when I’m that tired, I want to finish already… You know? Thank you for the well wishes, I think my child picked up a stomach virus from school and it manifested days later with all the awful symptoms of a flu bug with food poisoning. Doing better…
      Thank you!

    Eliz…
It would have been poetry, even if it didn’t rhyme…so beautiful. Your words created pictures in my mind…I wanted to be there to help take care of your sick child…and you. 🙂
Hope strength and good health return quickly.

Thanks Vivian, you know the story about how they become little kids again when they are sick… I was very concerned and it was tough going. Thankfully, we are all doing fine and the doctors prescription is working its magic for my child.
      Thank you!

Hope you all get a better night sleep tonight. 🙂

    • 27/02/2011 4:17 am

I don’t sleep much but having a sick child added another dimension… I hope we did the next day although I recall taking a very long afternoon nap.
      Thank you!

I agree, beautifully written. Albert Einstein said, “Joy in looking and comprehending is nature’s most beautiful gift”.
I hope your little a speedy recovery. Rest when you can.

Beautifully written, and I love the photos. We get so tangled at times with our busy schedules, routines, etc. We need to pause to see the beauty that is all around us, taking moments to be be grateful for life’s peaceful sounds and wonders of the world.
Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Thank you for your comment Penny… We see more when we pause more. Like everyone else, I rush around and then have t remind myself to stop and breathe and honor the present. My child is doing better… and so are we.
      Thank you!

lyrical and surreal…and perfectly capturing the moment and how you must have felt when writing… truly, we produce some of our best efforts under pressure…

    • 27/02/2011 4:23 am

      Hi Goz,
Long time no hear… Thanks for the prayers and goodwill. I agree that sometimes the pressure coupled with exhaustion, makes us walk through fire and throw caution to the wind and go with the hearts…
      Thank you!

Michelle, You are inspirational too. Your feedback is appreciated. The images came just as quickly as the words…
