What About You? Living the Life…

06/02/2011

Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds. Shine!” Buddha

Live Joyfully: We all have our share of life stories...

This is modified from a previous piece I wrote about my life journey: I’ve been a participant in a Writer’s Workshop for several months and I have enjoyed writing on a prompt. MamaKat runs the workshop and offers us weekly prompts to write/share with others. One week, we turned our lens back on ourselves to shine a light on the About Me blurb we’d written about ourselves… If you check your favorite blogs, you’d notice a wide range of About/About Me pages including some with no page. The jury is out on whether you need one with your picture on it. Personally, either way is fine. Since we get visitors from around the world, it helps to give some backstory; our internet face as it were. How do you present yourself to your readers? As Anonymous? A Full-fledged person? A partial story? What does it mean to you to share a part of your biography on your blog? What’s your story B 😉 🙂 boo?

I share information on my personal philosophy and journey specifically on the sticky landing page (first page on my blog) and the About page. I add snippets when necessary in my posts. When visitors to my blog take a moment to read my About page, the information they see is below in block quote format (sans the video & music links; just another fun take. You can add a video to your page). I have added my comments in parenthesis…

I like to view myself as an international nomad. (This is true) I grew up on three continents,(Africa, Europe, North America lived and studied in all & grateful that it means I refuse to typecast others) have been exposed to people/places that remain culturally rich and varied, and enjoy traveling/meeting new people. (I still love to travel and  I love to make new friends) I am an avid reader and love reading across genres; however, I am partial to nonfiction especially autobiographies. (I love motivational pieces; especially stories about those who turned their lives around) I suppose most readers/writers have a bit of the voyeur in them… ( We are all voyeurs to varying degrees… no?)

Forever – featuring Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Eminem

My interests in learning, teaching and traveling continue to inform my work as a training specialist. (I love learning, keep an open mind, taught at the univ level for years & I’ve been a trainer longer… time flies!) I love exchanging ideas and hearing fresh perspectives on myriad topics that shape our professional and personal lives; family, business, health, relationships, work, on life and more. ( I appreciate bloggers across the board as I like learning new things. I believe there can be multiple takes on a topic not just one rigid way to do things. Plus, I am an eclectic sorta gal and love other things not mentioned; like meditation, a wide range of music, gardening, Bollywood & Nollywood movies and more) lol! 😉

My family, friends, faith and colleagues have been instrumental to my growth; (Yes, it does all begin at home & the positive support we get from others helps our journey) therefore, I remember with gratitude, how important it is to encourage others. (Gratitude is an attitude and seen as a platitude, but, YES, I live by encouraging others) Contact & Connect with me here and on: LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter (I left others off intentionally as these are my focal points for now).

Today, I will add that:

Mirth and Motivation is a doorway to sharing my appreciation for life, for people, and for those things that add meaning to life. Until we walk in another person’s shoes, we are not in a position to judge them. My blog is about encouragement not judgment. To each his own.

♥2Pac ~Only God Can Judge Me…♥

Everyone has, at least, a few stories to tell. No room or need to be judgmental. We pick and choose what we wish to share and include snippets of our lives into our stories. Reveal what you wish as every bit adds a little something to the overall feel of your blog message. I added my signature below … It’s what I share on guest posts and other writing; I added it to my About page too. What about you? What is your story?

Elizabeth believes in positive kismet/fate and writes two blogs; Mirth and Motivation and Positive Kismet where she shares motivational, goodwill pieces and more. She is a mom to twins, a master trainer/educator, program developer & director, writer, healer, motivational speaker, real estate broker, and social media fan. She loves a good laugh, encouraging others, good food and an occasional jaunt to somewhere around the world.

Here is what the Writer’s Workshop prompt requested. MamaKat’s Prompt: About Me. Do you have an about me page? Because people want to know. Write a page that describes who you are and what you’re about or spruce up the current about me page! Have you spruced up yours?

Positive Motivation Tip: Refresh your resolve to add something new to your life. Start by refreshing your biography.

Great idea, Eliz. I will take a look at my About page…on my blog and on my website and “spruce” it up. We get so busy with life, we forget that there are things we can add because new events have occured and some we may need to delete because they no longer apply.

That is so true! I sent out the original About Me I wrote in my post via email. Afterward, I checked to find I had in fact sent out an old copy; I had updated it. Our lives move forward and it is easy to forget to update our information. How are you? Any thoughts on the game?
    Thanks for the feedback! 🙂

You do too dear Frizztext and I have learned quite a bit from viewing your mixed media features daily. I believe that what makes the world a fascinating place is our differences. 🙂

E, I think I’ll join you in Mama Kat’s writing prompts. As for my blog’s “about me” page…it needs work desperately! I’m still contemplating whether I want to keep the blog. Regardless, thanks for the info and more insight into your process. You rock!

Good for you and I promise to support you on that one. We submit our blogs each week and have to comment on the three posts ahead of ours… A simple task you will think but… 🙂
      Glad to hear from you!

Must be a theme and a sign that you and ProBlogger both had posts about the About Me page today. Think I should check mine out again and tweek it.
    Thanks!

Interesting right? I wrote mine yesterday and had no idea they would post same. Always room to learn from many sources and I read the one posted on Darren’s blog and liked it. I still believe that adding a picture is optional. Will check yours out soon. 🙂

It is a good idea to update information on a regular basis as our lives move on.
Sometimes we write things on a social site and then forget about it.
Even periodic spruce-ups are a good idea. Like your blog theme change.

Like spring cleaning, a little spruce up work is not so bad. I had used the same theme/template for over two years and I’m glad I made the switch. This is brighter and offers a few more features. I liked my other one but it was time to test something new. 🙂

Enjoyed this post. Like your creativity. I have come to the conclusion in life, that to enjoy life is to be true to our-self, be comfortable with our-self, and everything will eventfully fall into place.

Thanks for stopping by Penny. So true! When we allow the winds blowing from every direction to direct our course, we lose our purpose.
I’ve always believed that there are many roads to heaven and we take the one that guides us safely. The approach and road varies for everyone and it does get tiring listening to multiple messengers.
I say go with your/our hearts flow and the rest will follow. Nothing is overnight even when it appears to be so. 🙂
I will stop by your blog for a visit too!

Well, once again Elizabeth, you have given me something to think about! Yes, I believe that we are a little voyeuristic- I know I am! I love to read About Me pages! But I hate to share my own information. I’m a very private person and the thought of a photo is especially, well, frightening! You have really made me think about going ahead and sharing a little more of myself online… Thanks E!

An About Me page, huh…I enjoy reading them but I never gave it much thought for one of my own. I dunno really why I haven’t…humm…Okay. Thanks now I have another to do task on my to-do list. Girl you’re good with making your reading think outside their comfort zone… I’ll see what I can come up with. You’ve sparked the curiosity in me. That’s what I get for asking for blog buddies. I like it! Thanks buddy! 🙂
